Always remember don't chase Lobo if u want him to come to u. Also keep treats with u and everytime he comes and listens good give him a treat always positive. Like if he ever gets into trouble for something dont call him over and when he comes discipline him for whatever he did. Or chase and catch him to discipline anything like that. And always redirect his attention when he's bitting or being naughty like with a bone or chew toy and when he gets redirected and listens give him a little treat and lots of praise. Well i hope this helps im sure u know this already. But if not i was just trying to help thats all brother

hey Kenyan! Remember Joseph the mink man? He’s currently training a puppy and doing a series on it. You should check it out. It might help you set up a good foundation for lobo. Also if you want lobo to guard the camp, you should be training him as a livestock guardian dog and not a pet. Good luck!

@cathyp922 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Human training 101: never chase the dog, it's nothing but a game. If you want the dog to come to you, get on the ground and act like you're having the most fun you've ever had, complete with happy noises. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it makes the dog come to you.
@gorem98672 жыл бұрын
Quick tip on how to help Lobo recognize his name and connect it with coming over better :) ! You can start doing it in the house at first so there's not alot of distractions. Basically all you do at first is say his name, if he looks at you, say good boy and follow up with a treat. Do that in short 1-2 minute sessions multiple times a day, if done right it does wonders ! Once he understood that that's his name, he will probably automatically come to you when you say his name since he has connected it with positive reinforcement from you! ( treats, praise ). When he's on his way to you after you said his name you can add a call back signal! Like "come" or "come here". Also at the beginning, because he needs to know its worth it to come to you even when you guys are outside and there's other interesting stuff going on, when he comes to you on call back give him 1-3 treats to really reinforce that call back signal. Of course the extreme treat reward is not going to be a thing forever. If it works very well and he understood what's wanted from him, you just reduce the reward bit by bit until you only sometimes give him a treat reward. So then for Lobo it's like a lottery, sometimes it's just vocal praise or pats and other times inbetween he wins the lottery and gets a treat :) Keeps him on his toes and won't make the callback uninteresting! And of course, I LOVE all your animals man. They're all so happy and healthy. It's such a joy to see :) Keep it up, always loving your videos!

LMAO!!! This is where the "Drop it" command is going to be your best friend! My dog found a rotten Striped Bass tail on the beach one day and he dropped it like a good boy, but we were there with his littermate who hadn't learned that command, so his mom was trying to grab it but just kept wrenching and gagging, so I had to get it out of his mouth! Lord have Mercy... the stench.... and the slime factor! 🤮 Seriously dude... "Drop it" and "Leave it" are absolutely essential!

Yes fully agree. It is also great for if they ever happen to pick up something dangerous. My 20ish week pup had apparently found a piece of glass on our walk that I did not see. And being the retriever that she is she picked it up in her mouth and walked to me and I only then realized what had happened. So I called for the drop it command that we had be practicing but she wasn't fluent in yet and luckily she carefully dropped it without hurting herself. I threw her a big petting party for her good behaviour, inspected her mouth and she was completely fine. But imagine having to fight with your dog to get it out of their mouth and to have them bite down on it, or swallow it to prevent you from getting it. That story could have gotten a whole lot worse without her knowing a leave it command.

Hi mate, hope all is well. The below consideration has most likely been thought of and possibly already suggested. Emergency exit points: Installation of foot pegs - Two positioned appropriately on each of the posts in order to assist scaling/climbing the fence if necessary. Possible addition of hanging climbing hooks attached to the wire for your hands( You can buy them from a climbing supplies or a hardware store) Alternatively, you could make them with some timber and wire. All the best.

So cute to see Cerce warming up to you! Don't chase a runaway pup! Get his attention, and run away from him, calling only when you know he'll respond. He can't help but to follow the pack. It's almost magical. Lol. I think you were doing it, but, make sure to get on that resource guarding the second you see it! (Try teaching "leave it". Lots of good articles on it) it's a good preventative command😅 it's not a big deal now, but in a few months when he's bigger, it won't be so easy! I think you've understood that though, seeing as you didn't freak out when he growled over a dead fish. 😁

Look into Tom Davis with upstate canine academy. Lobo is going to need a lot more structure in order to succeed. And if you don't train him the proper way he will not do any protecting of your other animals. The growling at Kate is a huge issue and can be very dangerous if not addressed. You don't want his aggression to escalate towards your family as he will be big and powerful very soon. I work with dogs full time but I am not a trainer and I've noticed it's very hard for the average owner to keep a husky or Shepard and manage their behavior with proper outlets and structured training. These are the two breeds I most often seen attack other dogs and people. And it's no fault of their own they just are expected to be pets when they aren't wired for that and not given any outlet for their instincts. They become insecure or frustrated and it leads to a lot of issues. This is due to lack of leadership and again no healthy outlets for their natural behaviors. I would suggest getting professional help from a balanced trainer (one who uses positive reinforment and positive punishment). I really hope that Lobo is amazing for your family but you have to do your part to make sure he succeeds. And that means learning how to handle your dog in a way that it clear and binary to him so there is no confusion about what's expected of him. There are tons of resources online as well. Best of luck with your beautiful puppy and family!
@wmuns112 жыл бұрын
The growling has to be address at this stage before it becomes a problem later. Correction now is the easiest. I love German shepherds and was my favorite breed. Had german shepherd and German Shepherd mix when I was young. Highly intelligent dogs.

When it comes to resource guarding food, that's something that can get out of hand very quickly. One thing you could try is feeding Lobo handfuls of food at his normal breakfast / dinner time, which should get him used to your hands being around food - that you're not going to take food from him. Once that's easy to do, you can give him food in his normal bowl, and once or twice while he's eating, offer him a high-value treat in exchange for you taking his bowl away for a second. That way you will be able to reach for something he's trying to eat without growling or biting. All that said, working with a certified animal behaviorist who uses positive reinforcement methods is a great idea. I've heard great things about The Educated Pet. Love the videos and keep up the great work!

Make sure Lobo knows that gator pen is a no-no area for him! You can do this by training him so he doesn't move through any fence or a gate or open door unless you call him through. If you train him to do that not only will he be safer (because it also prevents him from running out into the road) but he'll be a much politer dog when he grows up.

It's a toss-up between him and Pinky on which one reminds me more of that hyper weasel character from the old Looney Tunes. He was a grey-furred character with a constantly out (pink!) tongue. When puppies are in the monster phase, I find the best way to get a runaway puppy (in a secure area) to come back is for everyone to go in the house and call a few times. If the dog doesn't listen, shut the door. Make them feel like the pack rejected them. They usually come running frantically after a minute once it sets in that thick skull that they are ALONE. And then never let the dog off a leash until it learns to stay near and come when called. The best way to train good behavior is to reward the good and prevent the dog from performing the bad.
