I’ve been using sleeves with zippers until today. I found your video as I’m researching a good way to store my collection. It sounds like storing them in anything other than their original BluRay disc sleeves could cause issues such as accelerated degrading. I’m ordering stacks of the original BluRay sleeves from Amazon as soon as I go through my entire collection and decide what I really want to keep. The rest, I’ll dispose of. Then I’ll place the sleeves inside my IKEA Besta drawers in a large horizontal console under my flatscreen. This way, they’re all hidden inside the console with the spine facing up. When I open the drawers, I can quickly see each title. I’m also organizing them by genre, alphabetically.

If I had the space I'd keep them in the original cases. Though after having used now three years these wallet types, I've had zero issues.
@cbfwebs2 жыл бұрын
It is true if you use zipper cases the material is not good for the discs. Learned this years ago when my cds were scratched by the rough paper. Blu rays have different backs more resistant, but you have to be careful with dvd backs and especially cds. Also storing the packaging in boxes does not protect from water damage or smash damage. It is best to use snap-lid plastic totes.
@Waspmark814 жыл бұрын
I start a similar thing back in 2013 with cd wallets for my cds, dvds, blu rays & video games for Playstation 1 to 4. But with doing it that way I haven't arranged them correctly or made a note of where everything is. But I do aim to do something like that in the future.

I always use the extra large 400 cap cd dvd case and always on lookout for more at yard garage sales and gw salvation army they're great space savers.i also archive my download mp3 files and use them for storing them. Also you can use those zippered school notebook folders get some plastic report dividers find some plastic cd sleeves and duct tape and make your own storage cases.

I have nearly 2500 CDs (mostly jazz and art music) in my collection. As my shelf started to burst at its seams I had to fix upon whether to purchase a new rack or to replace the bulky jewel cases with plastic sleeves. Fortunately I ended up choosing the latter. I delved into a myriad of plastic CD sleeves and, based on my comparative evaluation, settled upon the Slim Disc CD storage system. The (outer) sleeve is made of sturdy (150 μm) and environmentally friendly polypropylene (PP). It is fairly compact in size (height 130 mm; width 142 mm); the tray card spines must be folded when tucked in the sleeve. I have been very pleased with my choice, although have noticed a few difficulties. One headache is that I cannot anymore browse the spines. To overcome this, I made a digital list of my stuff, and ordered plastic dividers in order to classify the CDs by genre and artist’s name. Another drawback is that the cardboard cases, which cannot be taken to pieces like plastic ”jewel” cases, must be cut up to fit into the sleeves. I have carefully ripped the plastic trays off the cardboard cases, and cropped the cardboard enough to fit the sleeves. I have left some cardboard cases untouched in the shelf, which serve as a reference when flicking through my collection. Apart from the cropped cardboard cases, I think the retail value of the CDs has remained unchanged after storing them into sleeves. No regrets.

Looking to sort mine out but i know i want to keep them in the cases but just store them in something which looks neater than piles on my TV stand. I don't have as many as you, but im not ready to part with them yet, just want a neater space. This has given me some ideas so Thanks.

@@justheretocommentokdontwan685 The problem is including them with the album art. 500 CD's plus art rubbing against each other over time and yes use if it's for a personal collection. I think if you get a high quality case and don't put it in with the album art discs should be OK but for a personal collection I would say just don't go there because you're also completely destroying what little resale value you might have had.

Many years ago I did exactly what you did and then I found that my disks were starting to get scratched just from the case being moved around or shuffling through pages so then I decided to switch over to CD jewel cases I did that for over three years with great success however when I bought my house and I have plenty of room to put them on shelves to display them I decided to put them back into their original cases that was almost 1200 titles now I am almost 6000 titles things are going to have to change again I have decided to move over to the slim DVD case take a little off of each artwork on both sides I’ve been debating this for quite some time but I think it is now time to do that since I’m running out of shelf space.

Oh no sweetheart!!! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I can see how much work & time you’ve put into that folder... I did exactly the same thing years ago, in fact, I think I had the exact same folder as you, I had 2 of them ...But literally within months the zipper fell apart & the sleeves were ripping clean out all over the place & I take super good care of my stuff too, it’s not that I was careless or anything. 🥺🥺 The sleeves are just not strong enough to hold the weight of 8 discs (4 on each side). I was absolutely gutted cause I put so much time & effort into it, even alphabetised them all just for it to be falling apart after only months, both folders too 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ ...I also later got a slightly smaller folder that had those metal ring binders instead cause I thought maybe it was the way the sleeves were somewhat made into the spine or something but it actually happened even faster with the ring kind, the weight just ripped the sleeves through the holes 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ It’d almost always happen at the top corner first with the ring style ones & that made it difficult to align the sleeves to close each time even in the meantime while I was slowly putting them all back in their cases again. I’ve since met other people who’ve said the exact same thing happened to their folders too!! 😫😫 ...My heart has literally sunk seeing how much work you’ve put into it cause I know it looks incredible & seems like it’ll work great but I know only a few months down the line, all your hard work & the money you spent on the folders is gonna end up down the drain 😣😣 ...☝🏼Unless they’re now making the sleeves & spines much stronger now which is possible considering this all happened to me about 10yrs ago now. Gosh I hope so 😣🙏🏼 I’ll never personally risk it again though after my nightmare with it ... Perhaps though, maybe only putting 4 discs per sleeve instead of 8 (keeping each sleeve one-sided) might help? It was very obvious when looking at mine that it was the weight doing it so maybe keeping each sleeve 1 sided might be enough to stop it? You’d get a lot less in per folder, however, I absolutely could not fill mine using all the sleeves anyway cause it got too thick to zip up. If using one with binder rings you could always take any extra sleeves out & start another binder folder with them or photo album ect or you could cut them into individual double-sided sleeves to use in other ways so any unused sleeves don’t have to go to waste ☺️☺️ Excellent video by the way!! I’ve liked!! ☺️☺️ So sorry to be a downer in the comments but I just wanted to say something so hopefully no one else has to go through the nightmare I did... I’m gutted you’ve probably already experienced it by now though 😣😣 Such a fantastic solution in theory, I jumped right into it myself, but they clearly weren’t filled & tested for a while before they put them on the market 🥺🥺

I just discovered these cool wallets recently, they are great! For me, though, a big part of the fun is having the paper sleeves. Just like with album covers, I really dig the art and the info. So, mine don't end up holding as many, but it still greatly reduces the bulk of those clear cases, which by the way can be diyed into cute frames for your own art work, or even repurposed as shelves, I use the old wooden case and a few of the clear cases on it's side as a sort of display for perfumes, jewelry, pictures and knick knacks. Anyway, thanks for the reminder, I only bought one, to see if I'd like it and I still have to do the rest of my collections, Still hanging onto some of those precious VHSs and boxes too though, I know, they take up space and all, but, I dunno, it makes me feel safe to have my ultra analog back up. :)
