Probably one of the best tuts on glazing i've seen. Would love to see a tut about feathering, which is the technique i struggle the most with

I think one of the big problem s for beginners like me is knowing how 'long' to glaze for. I trust the process and continue glazing but maybe knowing that it usually takes a pro painter X glazes or X hours to properly create a blend would help in feeling less like Im wandering. The point about not glazing the same area over and over blew my mind despite being so obvious and simple. So you started glazing from the middle of the shield to the edge and towards the end was mostly glazing the parts near the edge?

Exactly. You are basically building lots of transluscent layers so the area you want to cover gets smaller and smaller

Exactly! And really you stop glazing when the transition is how you want it. Please don’t stress about reading about how long pros take on transitions (I was the same) just get it how you want it!

What do you think of glaze mediums?
@GitGudPainting5 ай бұрын
I use them if I need to go insanely thin on the glaze but I wouldn’t say they’re required

If heard using distilled water makes for a smoother glaze due to the lack of minerals causing micro textures?
@EkeiShao5 ай бұрын
True, especially if your tap water contains a lot of limestone

As Ekei says, if you have really hard water you’d be better with distilled water. Definitely worth checking what your water is rated.

When you were adding back the midtone in the center at the end and were glazing the midtone color from both directions into the center, how do you deal with the large puddle deposit that inevitably forms in the middle? Does that typically dry flat or create a 'bump' of dried paint?
@pbkobold5 ай бұрын
Shouldn't be a puddle? Unload your brush more into the paper towel before glazing. The glaze should be thinned enough that the area ending up with thicker application at the center still doesn't have that much extra paint, certainly not any texture.

@@pbkobold Appreciate the help 🙏I'll go back and try it with a less loaded brush thats probably the issue. I guess I was referring mostly to 5:35 to 5:52 where Bruce glazes from the left and right into the center and theres a small puddle of paint that remains that he leaves. Just wondering if anythin g needs to be done to that pool of liquid or if its ok to be left to dry.

This is a really good question. Honestly the first application I probably had a little too much on the brush, I’m saved by the fact im glazing so thin. If you’re working thin enough and with the brush properly cleared it shouldn’t happen. But I’ll experiment with other colours - could be that blue is forgiving.

@@GitGudPainting Thanks for letting me know Bruce! I'll give that a go as well. No matter how little I load the Brush i seem to get a pool

Fun fact: it’s called a tilting shield!

Now, do stippling. Especially after seeing that mini on reddit...
