Definitely interested. I've wanted to learn to use a sword for years. And the idea of hanging our with a bunch of other passionate people, learning to wear and use armor, use the weapons, and then put those skills to the test. Quite literally bashing eachother to pieces.. Well that's just dude 101 right there. Every man has somewhere in his blood.. the blood of warriors who came before him.

@saltlakecitycrusaders98114 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how other teams do there squire program. But the Crusaders allow anyone with written parent permission to participate in the squire program. The only thing is that they cannot fight till they are 18 for legal reasons. But we will still teach fighting technique and tactics.

in my chapter every beginner fighter that doesn't have a full armor yet is automatically a squire that helps the fighters get ready and equip on tournaments
@jacobm.f.24514 жыл бұрын
• What is your policy on minors? Would I be able to enter the squire program at 15-16? I remember reading you have to be 18 to fight but could I show up and learn? • I’ve been building my own brigandine for a LARP I play but designed it with being able to also use it for heavy combat. It’s a mix of 16 and 18 gauge (mostly 16) mild steel riveted to a couple layers of duck canvas, would I be able to use that?
@saltlakecitycrusaders98114 жыл бұрын
So the ACW policy is that you have to be 18 to fight in armor. But you would be able to participate in the squire program (depending on if your local chapter has one.) and any out of armor training. Your Brigandine sounds like it would be safe. But we would have to check it in person.

Any armor smiths in the USA that you'd recommend? Since most of not all of the smiths you linked are in the Ukraine and I have been hearing that shipping and customs costs have been charging near 100% of the shipment value. I'd rather not pay 4-6 grand to customs for an armour shipment already costing 6,500 USD.

i was wondering if it would be possible to do a riveted mail hauberk with more of a chainmail armor instead of plate if that is possible?
@grantholmes56613 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to do an earlier period mail armor, you'll need to hide plate underneath, and it will be HEAVY. Mail alone is not enough to handle the blunt force of this sport, and you'll be repairing links quite often as well. Not impossible, but not practical for this sport.

@@graemesmith6599 I meant heavy to have both chainmail AND plate underneath. If you wore lamellar, you could just use mail sleeves to reduce weight. Basically, chainmail alone is insufficient for the sport. But I like the eastern styles, especially Ottoman armor.
