This is an excellent, well thought out guide JP. I wish I had it when I started cycling! I’m a big believer of frame, wheels, components in that order, for what to focus in on the bike itself. However, it’s exactly as you stated, nothing is more important than just riding. Otherwise, it becomes another clothes hanger. Keep up the great work!

Excellent advice. I started road riding about six months ago. I agree with everything in your video. Wish I had seen it six months ago.

Became a road cyclist 3 years ago at a very late age. An activity i just love to do. It's addictive though. On my 3rd road bike now. The advice of get what you want is sound, if you start iof with low spec, you get the urge to upgrade. It will save you money if you extend your budget from the start. Got a TCR with Di2 and discs now, it is a fantastic bike. Looks good, rides great.

Sounds like you followed a similar journey to me there. I agree totally with your comments about upgrading too. Buy something decent in the first place!

Last week, I bought a 2013 trek alpha 1.5 aluminum frame, mostly Shimano 105. I did my first little ride today about 16 miles. Man, completely out of shape, but it was fun. This was an entry level bike, but it’s still light weight. Feels lighter than my daughter’s bottom of the line rubaix. What alloy wheels would you recommend? I was considering the fulcrum race 3 if i can get the set for about $500. By the way, i really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work! As I always say, don’t be deterred, be determined!
