Sorry for the repost, folks! The first version had an audio problem that I had to fix and re-upload.

The first homework my mentor set me was "stop skipping ads with voice over". It's helped a lot. I mimic the voice back at the tv xD

My wife and I have recently decided to get into Voice Overs. We make music and have been for a while now so the transition over to Voice over has been easy since we already have the recording exp. The "acting" part is where we need to improve. I really liked this video. I learned alot. Thank you so much for all the knowledge.

In my prep to decide I was going to do Voice Acting again, Mike and Gabby were my first sources of information. Anthony and I have shared our journey since we started about the same time. I am nothing but proud of my friend being a source of useful info/teaching just like Mike and Gabby! - Thanks for putting this together Mike!

THANK YOU 👍 🙏 💪 😊 for this AMAZING INTERVIEW 👏 I am new to VO, I'm still in VO training, since January 2022, and my demos will be professionally recorded later this year. I have emerged myself in education watching BOOTH JUNKIE, GABBY & Anthony for all this great information. I am a person who stutters however when that acting switch in my head turns on, I do not stutter. My cold reads are rough because of my stutter and I know it's going to be challenging however I KNOW I'm going to be successful!! #stutter #stammer #voiceover

15:53 In "The Kings Speech" the King is shown that he doesn't stutter when he can't hear his own voice. Sounds like this is similar.

So I’m not a voice actor (yet!) but I always, ALWAYS read out loud. It helps slow down my ADHD-ass brain and really get into a story, and one thing I’ve noticed regarding reading out loud and “reading ahead” is that it shares a REMARKABLE similarity to DDR, believe it or not. When you hit that flow state of playing DDR, you’re not looking at the trigger arrows and the exact timing, that’s relegated to the subconscious. You’re looking much closer to the center or even near the bottom of the screen. It’s the same exact thing with reading out loud; let your subconscious focus on what the mouth is saying, and let your active brain plan the route ahead

*This was AWESOME !!!* *My takeaway is this. I was a Strip Club DJ for 20 years. I had the "on mic" experience for 20 years. BUT - I was hired by the TOP strip club in my city at year 4 out of 20 years.* *I literally spent the last 16 years doing the same job day in and day out - with no sense that I constantly need to IMPROVE my performance - improve my delivery. I became monotone, and uninterested, and the audience most likely felt that too.* *Since getting into voiceover, I came to understand the need to constantly improve. It was a very hard thing to get over, but I am continually working on it, and year over year, my income keeps going up !!!*

That point Anthony made about hearing your own voice and not hearing your own voice while reading and how it can correct any errors is so true. When I have my headphones on and am reading, even with scanning ahead, the sound of my own voice becomes larger than life in my head and stops me in my tracks. All sounds and pronunciations become amplified and scares me....am I saying it right or how am I sounding. I sometimes try not putting on the headphones or putting my fingers in my ears while taping as well. It helps but eventually I guess you get used to it.

What Gabby said has to be true bc I'm pretty terrified of performing in front of ppl. This fear must come out in my auditions. I'm going to book a flight to Los Angeles. See old friends, take classes and even go to open mics. It's time to step up!

HI I am just starting out. I have a really bright and sharp voice, do I need to consider that my voice isnt as deep and soothing as other vo artists when I am picking a mic and pop screen?

The greatest VO class I've seen on KZbin so far is by "Bell Tritel Productions", a serious hidden gem when it comes to more animated style voice acting/voice overs.

one question that always gets me… What is a English ‘neutral’ accent? No one seems to know and many employers ask for it 😅 thanks!
@CaraHillVoiceoverArtist2 жыл бұрын
@PaddedCellStudio That is a great question! The word British, American etc., is missing, so I would imagine that would make it kind of a mix of all. The neutral part would be no one specific accent, and the words be understood by all. VoPlanet has a great video on this. Also, here is a fantastic video on this transatlantic accent (aka English Neutral) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f32Vfn1up7ZkaKc Have fun recording! -Cara 😃

Normally I am the camera and audio guy for my wife, so the tech side of things is easy for me. So I thought I could try narrating some short videos etc for her in english and later some Buddhist suttas. After watching this I did a little test recording of myself and noticed the following problems. If I use headphones and there is any kind of delay my brain just short circuits after two or three words. Hmmm... wasn't expecting that. Then I noticed how difficult it is to read far enough ahead so you know not only what but how to say what's next. I found I couldn't keep things flowing, I was putting emphasis on the wrong words and stressing the wrong syllables, pausing where I shouldn't, not pausing where I should, getting my breathing messed up. In short I realised I could read out loud better than this when I was 12 years old. Looks like I have to start reading stories aloud again. I was surprised how hard this actually is, or has become for me, in the decades since leaving school.

Good ideas for new voice actors who may want to get their feet wet? I was speaking with "Such A Voice" and when I mentioned how I got scammed and was skeptical about the SaV program. The rep I was talking to seemed to change her tone, mentioned how I probably wasn't right for them and we ended the call from there.

VO is acting. ..Which brings along with it the actorly skills of proper voice production. The mouth, tongue and lips are all muscles and they need to be toned. If your friends say... "You have a nice voice" that is only 30% of the audio product. You will also be a technician and editor. Pay to play needs to be treated with caution. Once you have a honed ability ( and you may never have it, even though your friends say you have a nice voice.) Organise your own network....Cold call. Be personable, chatty, but read the room and ring off with grace, if it's not going well. You may think you have it, don't stake your life on it... charge proper rates even though you are just wanting to play golf and have this as money on the side. Pro-VO's don't want you charging next to nothing and ruining thier living by undercutting. Get excited about your voice being on an ad, but don't show it. Have fun, but like with acting the best give a fcuk about about doing a good job, ( a seriously good job) but don't give a fcuk. i.e. Keep it light. That lightness of touch will be your personal difference and that personal difference is what people buy. Great Video.
