Thanks so much for this nice comment, I appreciate you taking the time! Haha I would love to make videos for them and get paid...I have had a few people mention that now. Very kind. I'm not directly sponsored by them, but i have joined their affiliate program recently (after making this video). So if you click the link in the description when you go to make your purchase, it will give us a small commission. Nothing crazy, but anything helps to keep the channel growing (affiliate link clicks, video likes, subscriptions, etc)...and the best part is that it doesn't cost anything to do 😊 Let me know if you have any questions about your eSIM...I try and respond quickly and help research a question if i don't know the answer. I should've watched this before I did it- lol. I think it's easier from the app as opposed to online. Another confusing things is that Airalo should never give a message "Activating e-Sim" because it makes you think it's going live, as opposed to simply installing it. However, your info about it not starting until it pings the tower at your travel destination makes a lot of sense. If this is your first time doing a video with this format, I'm impressed!! Thanks.

Brian states that eSIM are “easier” but it is more than that. The ability to activate the eSIM while still in one’s home area and then to choose it once at one’s destination is so much better than having to buy a physical SIM at one’s destination and then try to install and activate it without using expensive roaming data with one’s native service. The last time I did that I was sitting outside a SBUX in the rain (inside was closed due to COVID) and had to use their wifi, which was spotty because I was outside the store, trying to activate my SIM.

Hello thank you for your video it was great. I feel a lot better about buying Airalo esim now and was constantly doing google research about which was the better company to go with. I have one question download speed how was this during your past travels? Is speed important when using data, I mean I'm not watching a movie lol
@briansteph Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for checking out the video - super happy to hear that it was helpful to you! That's a great question about the DL speed. I can only recall having a slower connection once or twice, and it was when we were traveling between cities (such as, on a train in the middle of a countryside rather than in a city center). That makes sense though, because your phone is using Airalo to connect to the local carriers in any given place, and most carriers do have spots within their coverage areas that aren't as strong of a signal, or maybe even are a "dead zone". i know this is true for me at home here in the US with Verizon...every now and again, i'll be somewhere where my signal isn't all that strong. That said, I personally didn't experience a time where the connection was so slow that I was unable to complete a task I wanted to complete. But as I mentioned, none of what I was doing was extremely data-heavy (mostly using Google Maps and the internet to look things up). Slower speeds could impact making a call through FaceTime, but that would be true if you were a local in whatever area you were in on the same carrier. Ultimately, it'll be dependent on the carriers that Airalo is connecting you to and not Airalo itself that determines your speeds. If you are mostly in populated areas, you should have sufficient speed...if you are in less populated areas, you may have slower speeds at times, just as you would expect may happen with your native mobile carrier. Again, I never had a problem, and like you said, I wasn't streaming movies or anything either. Europe also has a ton of public WiFi that is typically pretty solid, so I used that every so often as well to save on the data i was using with Airalo. Hopefully that helps answer your question - thanks for asking!

Used an esim for the first time today and my iPhone 14 Pro was not unlocked because the balance of the phone wasn’t paid off. Glad I had time to call my carrier to set it straight, paid off, and have them unlock it before I left. I also had to shut down and restart my phone for it to recognize.

Sometimes in Europe it can be beneficial to purchase a country specific SIM. With the European package you cab be limited to say LTE speed, but a country specific can allow for example 5G. This varys from country to country so make sure you check.

Superbly clear just bought my eSIM for Saudi for Saturday…I’m very new to the eSIM world…I look forward to switching on as I land ! You did well to highlight all those fears that we all have ref being charged like a wounded bull ref our home carrier every time we go abroad…fingers crossed it all goes smoothly…next challenge is actually how much data we actually use day to day so we can best choose a plan! Thank a lot Brian - I used your code too so spend the $3 wisely!

Hey Steve - glad to hear this was helpful to you, thanks for the nice comment! Yes indeed, definitely happy to not have those international charges anymore. You can always start with a smaller amount of data, knowing that you can add more for the same cost as it would be to buy a new eSIM. "Topping up" is extremely easy and can be done at any time, so I typically suggest starting with an amount of data that lives around the low end of what you think you'll need, knowing that you can add more at any time. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions - safe travels! ✈️
@stevejones38649 ай бұрын
Thanks guys! I suppose the obvious question I have is that presumably you need data in order to buy extra data! (Or if course wifi!) Will it notify you when you’re about to run out of data so you can then act quickly or will it just run out. I will naturally be keep on top of my usage but just wondered if the top up process was made easier by timely reminders? Thanks again! 😀
@briansteph9 ай бұрын
@stevejones3864 Yes correct, you'll need an initial package in order to buy more! I don't recall the exact intervals at which Airalo sends reminders, but you will get push notifications and emails by default when you start to run out. I know there is a reminder at the 25% remaining mark. You can also purchase more before you run out, as Airalo will continue to use your original package until it's gone before tapping into any "top up" packages.

Hi guys, just completed my first trip with Airalo and it was brilliant ! Thank you so much.. Came into another country and used a different eSIM - was all going well - I had 750 mb left when checked (I check often in these early stages!) but then the following morning my network wasn’t working. Got into wifi to see all my data had gone and I have since topped up some more. 3 questions.. 1) does Airalo not give any notification when you’re running low? I expected some sort of notification … ??? 2) the only explanation as to bit used up so much data so quickly is because I have auto download of WhatsApp photos switched on and I been receiving a fair few photos as I’m in a group tour and ptople like to share! Do you think this might be the source of quick data usage or do you have any other thoughts 3) I’ve got data roaming switched off for my current eSIM and things seem to work fine. Always reluctant to switch on data roaming anywhere but in UK but Airalo seems to suggest I should have it in for my active eSIM.. help!!?? Many thanks Steve

You should have touched on using the data sim with iMessage. There is a whole lot to do to make iMessage work and then once you are done with the data sim switching it back. also turning off your primary line removes your number from iMessage and FaceTime and causes more heartache than it is worth. just turn off data roaming.
@briansteph Жыл бұрын
fair points! i certainly should have mentioned switching the sims back since i've had a few questions about that already. And yes, iMessage removes your number. I supposed we have always used our Apple Id emails via iMessage when we are using it internationally. Tried to include as much as possible, but knew i couldn't remember or have time to include everything, so thanks for chiming in!

Hey thanks so much, I appreciate that! It's definitely an aspect of these videos that I try and get better at each time. Yes, I do have some studio experience, although I would consider my setup to be a modest DIY home studio...the typical Scarlett Focusrite interface with the Shure SM7B. I played in bands in my late teens/early 20s, and recently had a spell where I was releasing music on Spotify/Apple/etc under the artist name "graymind". For those songs, I had a buddy produce, but it's nice to be able to write scratch tracks at home comfortably when inspiration strikes. My ultimate goal is to create cinematic videos where I capture/edit all of the footage and write the music as well. Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to comment!

Brian... one other question before we leave for London tomorrow... I saw another Airalo tutorial video where someone commented with the following... I'm wondering if this is something I need to do?? "To make sure you can receive texts from US while on secondary eSIM, you need to setup WiFi calling for the primary sim card before leaving home. When you get to your overseas destination, turn on both primary and secondary SIM cards. Select “secondary” for cellular data, select “primary” for default voice line. I was then able to get texts from banks. This is for an iPhone."
@briansteph3 ай бұрын
Hey Dan! They are referring specifically to standard SMS texts...iMessages you can still send/receive without doing those extra steps. However, you CAN set up your phone like that in order to get standard SMS from non-iphone users, or for 2FA texts from your online accounts/banks as that person mentioned. I'm not sure what the wifi calling setting has to do with the rest of what was mentioned though, but it doesn't hurt to have that setting enabled. If you'd like to receive SMS on your Primary SIM, here's how to do that: - Leave your Primary line on, but disable "Data Roaming" under Settings > Cellular for that SIM. This will ensure that data is ONLY being used on the Airalo eSIM while you're gone - Under Settings > Cellular Data, make Airalo the default SIM for cellular data, and DISABLE the "allow cellular data switching" option, so that your Primary SIM isn't accidentally used for data while in London. Default voice line can stay as Primary as they mentioned. Keep in mind that INBOUND calls and SMS will not trigger an international charge, but if you initiate a call or send an SMS, you may be charged by your Primary cell provider. This is particularly important while you're in the Messages app when starting a new message, as it will ask you from what SIM do you wish to send the message from (select Airalo). Hope that's helpful - I know it can all be a bit confusing. Let me know if I can clarify anything more. Safe travels to London tomorrow!

Thanks Brian - I have downloaded the eSIM for a week in Singapore. So much easier than getting a local SIM. The eSIM still says 'Activating' an hour after I downloaded it, but will see how it goes when we land. I used your code, so got 2Gb for $3 which is so much cheaper than the NZ$8 per day we are charged for international roaming with our local carrier. Save travels to you both - cheers from New Zealand :-)
@briansteph Жыл бұрын
Hey there, so great to hear this helped in getting you all set up for your trip to Singapore! Certainly a nice little cost difference there...hard to deny that, and the convenience. Those are the main reasons I love going the eSIM route over the international data charges with my main carrier. I have had a couple of other folks comment the same thing about the eSIM showing "activating" for awhile. Seems to resolve itself from what they have said...it actually doesn't even need to activate until you get to Singapore, so you should be fine! You could always turn the eSIM line off until you get there if you'd like. Hope you have a great trip - let us know what you think of Singapore if you get a chance, definitely on our list (as is New Zealand). Safe travels! ✈️

Awesome, glad to hear it! You certainly can if you don't intend to use them again.
