I know that a year ago you struggled with the gilt you AI I am wondering if you feel she was too young or just too small of birth canal? We have a pig that is a little younger than we would like that might be pregnant to a larger boar and are wondering if it's going to bring us a lot of trouble or she should be ok.

Great video , do you know that they have IPP , Idaho Pasture Pigs ?
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
Shipley's does not. They have Yorkshire, Duroc, Berkshire, and Hampshire. They have an "Exotic" and an "Other". NOt sure what those two are.

Sheraton Park Farms I e mailed them . Do u know who might have the IPP ? Very informative video , your boar looks great
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
I sure don't. Check some of the pastured pig groups on Facebook. That is a pretty good resource.

Thanks for the video, how do you store the semen or do you just order a day ahead of her heat cycle and keep it in the cooler? Thanks

Great video and page! Do you inseminate each gilt/sow only once? Ive read to do it a few times...12 to 24 hours after first dose. Is this necessary? Thanks!
@SheratonParkFarms3 жыл бұрын
Yes. You need to do it multiple times. We try to give each gilt or sow 3 doses over about 24 hours.

What is your A.I. Success rate? If u do A.I. to 10 different pigs, how many of those pigs have piglets
@SheratonParkFarms3 жыл бұрын
I'm at well over 90%. Have had only one that didn't take and I think its because I used old semen (greater than 7 days from collection).
@timskutnik43974 жыл бұрын
Great video thanks for sharing. Do you use one bottle of semen per sow or can you use one bottle on multiple sows or gilts?
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
It is packaged in single dose units so one bottle per sow. I’ll typically dose a sow 2 times. Once after they have been in heat for a few hours and then again about 8 hours later. Appreciate y’all watching

The boar cost an $200+ a month. It's the same as a sow and the sow produces revenue and a boar does not
