I love that Things3 can sync with Reminders and iCal; can it also sync with Notes? The reason I ask is that my husband and I share some notes to stay in sync with each other, for example, our grocery list. If my husband does NOT use Things3, is it possible for me to sync a grocery list in Notes to a list in Things3?

I tried workflow with iCloud link but most attachments I have are actually screenshots and it does not make sense to keep them as files.

I don’t usually find myself needing to attach files to tasks. If I have a file, I just put it in the relevant, organized place on my hard drive, and grab it there if I need it.

My other work stuff has taken priority since I need to start making money asap. How long am I going to put of my dental visit? How do I set a deadline for that sort of thing or prioritize it?
@PeterAkkies3 жыл бұрын
Good question. That’s not the sort of thing a task manager will help you with. At some point, you just have to decide to do it. Task managers can’t prioritize for you!

How do you handle tasks you've delegated to someone else in Things? That's the one thing I can't make work in this software. In ToDoist, I use a waiting tag and then use a Filter to grab the work tasks that I'm waiting on other people for today. I also have a Filter for ALL the current work tasks I'm waiting on someone else for. How is this possible in Things? Doesn't seem like it's set up for that, but more for personal management only. thoughts? Thank you!!
@PeterAkkies2 жыл бұрын
Yes, Things is primarily for personal task management. But you can create a “waiting for” tag or a “delegated” tag. For example, you might have a task like “share meeting agenda with the team” with a “waiting for” tag assigned; in the task’s note, you could write something like “waiting for Jack to send me agenda items”.
@j3jenkins2 жыл бұрын
@@PeterAkkies thank you for taking the time to reply and offer your advice. I really appreciate that! The issue with that approach is i need the tasks that are ‘waiting’ to leave me Today view because at that point i can no longer actively work on them until the person completes their task. If i have to wade through the 20-30 total tasks that i have each day between items i need to actually complete vs the ones I’m waiting on others to complete, using the task manager becomes unwieldy; i waste time trying to figure out what i actually need to do. Does that make sense? I need those waiting for tasks to be stored in a separate location that i can review when I’m able to. Any ideas in Things? In ToDoist i use filters. But this app is much prettier and would like to use it if it can accommodate more of a manager’s workflow, which is the workflow i have.

Hi. Will you get notifications (lock screen) on things you need to be reminded of in a specific date and time? Thanks.
@PeterAkkies4 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you set a reminder you'll set it for a specific time, and Things will send you a notification. As long as you give Things permission to send notifications to your lock screen, it will do that.

Great video. There is a big issue for me with Things3: No task duration and ability to plan the day where it shows up in a timeline. Or is it? I just switched from Omnifocus3 to Sorted3.. not an affiliate for any of them btw
@PeterAkkies4 жыл бұрын
That is indeed not possible in OmniFocus or in Things. Although in OmniFocus you *could* use the defer date in that way-but it probably won't do what you want. Sounds like Sorted is just the app you want.
@Gjermund-Sivertsen4 жыл бұрын
Peter Akkies thanks. Actually, it seems like I will end up using TickTick. Very good for planning your day/week and set estimates on each task. OmniFocus is great but too complex. Spending more time setting up perspectives and less time doing the work with OF. However: OF is very addictive, and I find myself fiddling around with the app, even if I know that I will not use it. Do you think the Today feature should be organized by hour? If we can pick a day then why can’t we pick a time of day since logically every todo will be done at some point in time during the day whether the user chooses so or not?
@PeterAkkies4 жыл бұрын
No, it should not. Things is a task manager, not a time manager. To manage your time, you’re better off using your calendar, which is designed to manage your time.

So “When” is for when you want to start a todo and a deadline is for when you want to finish it?
@Patrick763995 жыл бұрын
How is “when you plan to do the task” different than ”when you want to start a todo”? For example, if a student has a school project wouldn’t they use the “When?” feature to pick a date for when they want to start it?
@PeterAkkies5 жыл бұрын
@@Patrick76399 Some of my comments got lost, so I'll comment again here: I see "when" as when I plan to not only start but also *complete* the task. If the task is too big to complete in one work session, then I like to break it down into parts.

An important question (for me)! I see that when you create a new task you can put a comment/note about that task, so IS THERE a characters limit for those notes? I am asking because for some tasks I want to put very detailed information about them and I may find myself typing a lot! so is there a maximum number of letters that you can insert there? thank you!
@PeterAkkies3 жыл бұрын
Not sure whether there is a limit. But if you want to keep your notes for later, just put them in a proper notes app.
@ahmedfarrag173 жыл бұрын
@@PeterAkkies Yes..there is! I contacted the development team and they said the limit is 40.000 characters. Yes, you are right! It is better to use a note taking app for that reason but I thought it would be awesome if I could use Things for taking specific notes, combined with the task management feature. But anyway..thank you for responding! I appreciate it
