I've always imagined wedding photography to be difficult, you articulated that difficulty very well - so many things to think about. After your presentation, no one should be left underestimating the task. If someone still thinks they're up to it, then they'd need to get some experience by attending a wedding as an auxilliary photographer and if they then still think they're up to it they could commit to have a go with a degree of confidence (assuming they're a capable photographer in the first place). No one should undertake the task without any experience. It's probably best left to the experienced professionals is my view - it's just too important to get wrong. Very good tutorial, I think you spelt things out very clearly and thereby did a great service.

Great stuff, this can be very politically challenging and with a little interference from some. Years back in the late 1970s, I set up lights and an agreed site for group photos. The bride was in tears when her new mother-in-law decided that, she didn’t like the site, that the lights were too bright and that only her side of the family needs photos. The negotiations started, I took a back seat and after what seemed a lifetime, we set up as agreed. Photos were taken, someone glared are me throughout and made suggestions that I leave. It was at that point that I decided that it wasn’t for me. FYI the bride loved her photos.

Excellent overview and well-spoken. I've thought about learning how to be a wedding photographer but I know the stress is just not worth it for me, I'll stick to my Real Estate photography thank you, and just dabble a bit in taking family photos.

I do weddings with a pair of Leica R6.2, one with Portra 160 and one with Portra 400. I take at least 6 36-exposure reels of each with me. Three lenses, 19mm, 35mm and 100mm. A sturdy tripod for the outdoor group photos can be very useful. If the couple want digital I scan the negs with a Nikon 5000 scanner. If they want digital capture I ask them to use someone else; I use Leica SL , but not for weddings as they are too big and too heavy! Lightweight cameras become important after 6 hours....

Great video and advice. Would love to hear your thoughts on using flash on or off camera at weddings. This is the point I am most concerned about for my upcoming wedding shoot.
