This is not your average Philippines travel vlog. This is the epic adventure of going up to the Kalinga village of Buscalan in search of Whang Od, the 102 year old tattoo artist. Whang Od is often referred to as the last and oldest mambabatok and this is our story of trying to get a tattoo from her in 2019.

It was said that warriors came back home from tribal wars and get tattoos as a symbol of strength, and tattoos were also considered beautiful despite the religious stigma around it now. She was definitely considered beautiful back then with all that ink on her.

Just an FYI for those planning to visit the Philippines, when you meet an elder like the legend Whang Od... a proper Filipino blessing is highly encouraged. This is called the "Mano". To do so, you take the back of the hand of the elder, slightly bow, and bring the elder's (back of the hand) up to your forehead.

The caterpillar (Hairy caterpillar?) that got on his pants at 7:13 is called Higad in the Philippines. if it's hair/Bristles touch your skin, you'll be scratching all day non-stop and since the hair is thin the itchiness spreads throughout the skin.
