I've always said I would never buy a truck that had been repaired after a major accident. But Scott has changed my mind on that. I'd buy a vehicle he has rebuilt. Great workmanship.

Thanks for the education on the seat covers. I've seen lots of KZbin rebuilders that just have covers resewn after replacing airbags. Now, I know why they should be replaced.
@darinvee49802 жыл бұрын
Dang, I was just planning to make a similar comment and ask him why he doesn't just get his mom's sewing kit out and fix that old seat cover. I know he doesn't have much time for those other KZbinrs that do that type of thing.
@haroldbenton9792 жыл бұрын
The reason why you have to replace the seat covers after an airbag deployment is this. The panel that comes free when the bag deployed is designed to do that and if you make it to strong it may not allow the replacement airbag to deploy safely and cause injuries or death.
@johnDingoFoxVelocity2 жыл бұрын
Please also understand some vehicles don't have that panel in front of the seat airbag
@darinvee49802 жыл бұрын
@@haroldbenton979 Ultimately, the reason you have to replace the seat cover is because it is in the manufacturer's approved repair guidelines. Doing it to manufacturer specs goes a long way in removing the repairers liability in case of a malfunction.
@MsMrglenn2 жыл бұрын
They are reusable you have to use a different thread for sewing them up. It’s a weaker thread so it will break when the air bag explodes.

One thing about you Scott, you don't take any shortcuts and you always go the extra mile to do every job properly (apart from cleaning unseen dirt on windows!). I've seen other channels take shortcuts on door painting, instead of spending a few extra minutes dismantling the doors so that they can be painted correctly. No wonder your vehicles sell so quickly, people know they are getting a quality vehicle and not something done like you often find with the "someone's been here before" syndrome. I've encountered this issue myself.Have a great long weekend and look forward to seeing this Terrain finished next video. All the best from Queensland Australia. (Just joking about the dirty window).

I usually sit doors on a paint bucket. As always, Scott you do quality builds. I would say OEM but sometimes that is not a compliment. I am always impressed with the build quality.

Very interesting to see how modern seats are put together, especially that airbag flap thingy, that's one to remember! Love the quality of your builds, no shortcuts, every clip and tab has to seat properly! Hogrings are indeed the worst. I once went to install OEM seatheaters and new foam into my 1993 BMW seats and those "coathangers" loved to tear out of the brittle fabric while trying to put the hogrings back in without hogring pliers. I ended up replacing the hogrings with small zipties. 5 years ago now, everything is still in tact, I call that a win!
@froggy01622 жыл бұрын
I did the zip tie trick when swapping on some leather seat covers. Hog rings were a huge pain to remove and i didn’t feel like going out to buy the special tool to refit the bastards. 15 years and 120,000kms later the seats are still perfect :)

Speaking as a retired painter for a UK accident repair centre, the heat gun works well for removing pinstripes. You can literally heat and pull the stripe off with you fingers at the same time. If it is difficult to start lifting the pistripe, just use a plastic filler spreader.

GM must've redesigned their seat covers for the Escalade and similar model when they added air bags. They used to sit the whole seat on a machine that pulled a vacuum on the seat that allowed the assembly worker to slide the leather right over the frame and cushioning. It was pretty clever but I bet it was not owner or repair shop friendly.

It's funny. You and I are a lot alike. "People say I should do/use/switch to xxxxx". But the way I learned how to do certain things is just easier. like you using your foot to raise and lower the door. Don't get me wrong, there have been certain advances in tech/tools that make life much easier. But sometimes, a little bit of skill, know how, or elbow grease, is just more effective 🤷♂️. Keep on doing your thing man. It's lookin good.
