Great content! I am taking the aPHR in January. I've actually been working in HR since 2015 mostly in Talent Acquesition (Recruiting and Onboarding) and most recently in Talent Development. I actually qualified to take the PHR and SHRM, but decided to move forward with the aPHR since most of my career has been more administrative in nature. I heard the aPHR is technically entry level, but also better for people in the field who have not had a lot of exposure to HR Management.

Hi there Alyssa. I've been an attorney for over 20 years, but think I want to get out of the legal game. (I might've missed if you already stated) Is the exam largely multiple choice, fill in's, or essay based? Lastly, 80+ percent passage rate sounds good. But at $400, no one wants to fall into the 20% percentile.

Hi Alyssa! I come back to your short, but highly useful video, to say thank you!!! I have passed my exam, by having in mind some of the ideas shared by you, like - if you see an unfamiliar question - don't panic, it can be one of those not counting against your overall score. Your video also helped me while preparing for the exam, especially - to consider not memorizing all the preparation test questions, which became very handy, because not even a single question repeated. Although, I too plan to apply for PHR, however, video on the experience with re-certification credits, later on, would be great too :) Anyway, thank you again, sharing is a powerful tool!

Hi Alyssa, your video is informative. I'm noting the fact that you mentioned the importance of buying the textbook the year I plan on taking the aPHR exam. I will most likely buy the study prep material via HRCI, but it does not specifically say the year "2023" study material, but I will have to find their contact info to ask.. Would you still say it was worth buying their material?
@authoralyssaclay Жыл бұрын
I would recommend buying their prep material(s). They have a pack that includes the textbook, flash cards, and exam questions this is what I purchased. I found that between these three methods of studying that they provided, they were spot on with the exam questions. At first you might be overwhelmed by the content (there's a lot) but I think that the HRCI study material is very accurate (since they produce the exams).

I took the exam online!! I was struggling a lot with the math equations on the study exams so I remember hoping that they weren’t on the test. Hi Alyssa! Thank you so much for the content. After watching this video, I felt that I had to subscribe to your channel :). I do have a question though: I am about to graduate with a BA in political science and have decided to study for the aPHR over this summer hoping to land an entry level HR position after graduation. With this in mind, do you think the aPHR would be a good starting point to kind of get my foot in the door in hr with a completely different bachelors field? Also I have seen that there are graduate certificates for HR, do you think the aPHR would be better for my position than looking at those at the moment?
@authoralyssaclay Жыл бұрын
Hi Clay, I'm so glad to hear that my video was helpful! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation as well :) I have seen graduate certificate programs before and I personally think that you are better off focusing on the aPHR based on what you've shared. I would recommend looking into a graduate certificate program once you've been in HR for 6 months- 2 years and are sure that this is something you want to stick with as a career choice. Graduate certificates (at least the ones I've seen) are more expensive whereas certifications like the PHR and aPHR are guaranteed to hold value in within the HR field and are less expensive to obtain. I hope that helps!

I recently graduated with my BA in HR and want to something to back me up since I don't have the 2-3 years of experience to back me up.
@authoralyssaclay Жыл бұрын
The bundle does not come with any live classes. I know that there are some sets that are more expensive that others. Some include anywhere from 1-4 of the study material types ie. flash cards, textbook, online texts, and exams. I also know that there are sets that include the cost of the exam. HRCI prep materials are definitely some of the priciest on the market no doubt. I think this could be a great option for you to gain some more experience and will also show potential employers that you are serious about the field.

But I don't have HR experience in US. Have admin experience though. How did you get in HR job wo having certification? Do you feel experience would help me rather than a certi? Or first should I get certification and then find work? Thanks in advance :)
@authoralyssaclay Жыл бұрын
I think a certification that is US specific would be a great option for you. The aPHR reviews a lot of the US federal standards, labor laws, and OSHA rights. It definitely sounds as though you have a lot of experience in HR so I would work towards attaining a certificate that reviews U.S. specific legalities.

Hi I am currently not working in HR but I do want to transition over to HR. Do you think that I should go ahead and study for this test or should I try to get a job in HR first and get a little experience and then take the test. Or do you feel that this having this certification will benefit me and help me get a position in HR since I don’t have any experience.
@authoralyssaclay2 жыл бұрын
I think that the aPHR would be a great start to stand out amongst other candidates applying for the same HR positions. You don't need to have any experience in HR in order to gain the aPHR certificate, in fact, the cert. is designed for folks who are trying to break into the HR field. If you have no previous experience in HR however, I would anticipate the studying process to take a little bit longer. I know that I was able to pass the exam in only a few months since these were all subjects that I handle within my work day-to-day. I could see the studying process taking slightly longer for someone who was less familiar with these concepts. Best of luck!
