Would be funny if they shot a whole episode dedicated to nothing but 100% real detailed process of synthesizing meth

Something I'm left wondeirng. Do most chemists just know how to make meth. Like the formula? Or is it something you really have to try and learn.
@luisarmenta26193 жыл бұрын
We can learn through reading synthesis literature it but actually making it is difficult since most of the precursors are controlled by the government

It’s not something they are specifically taught, but therea a lot of resources for finding out how to actually synthesize it. If you have a background in chemistry you might not know, but you could certainly find out. As the other commenter stated the main difficulty is getting the precursors, it’s not that it’s just difficult to make, it’s more so that it’s difficult to get the chemicals needed to synthesize a highly pure drug. That’s why methods like shake n bake (using lithium from batteries) exist, it is very crude and won’t result in a pure product, but is much easier to synthesize since it doesn’t require controlled precursors.

Yes, lol, they don't want to be teaching people how to make it! But I agree that this show does not glorify the lifestyle at all. Even some of the people who played Jess's customers look real messed up, like very realistic.

I found the series to be probably the most scathing critique of the inadequacy of the privatised US healthcare system. I have read articles were diabetics carry notes to ask good Samaritans not to call an ambulance if they have a hypo and relatively wealthy people bankrupted by cancer and other long term treatments. While the NHS here in the UK is struggling due to ideological austerity and the damage caused by the conservative party's chronic underfunding it's way better than the US system we see in Breaking Bad. Also the corrosive nature of completely unchecked neo liberal, laissez-faire free market capitalism. Jessie Pinkman is the only character I have much real sympathy and empathy with. The sisters are nearly as monstrous as Walter becomes. It's a classic tale of the corruption of souls. Sadly I don't really get the chemistry as I was as bad as Jessie at school and crystal meth looks as much fun as tooth ache!

I thoroughly enjoyed the poor science choices in BB. How a scientist would try and trickle charge a car battery with a broken genny down long thick (high resistance) jump leads was impossible and downright dumb. A genny doesn't produce lower amperage and voltage by turning it slow. Until you get it up to speed it produces nothing. They might have been able to get the RV's alternator to spin fast enough to charge the battery some as it could have been taken out, or salvaged for parts to make a working hand genny. While they could produce 12v from a series of homemade 2v cells their little cells were not going to produce the amperage to turn over an engine. So they end up doing the impossible. Actually all they needed was to charge the phone which had gone flat (3.8V and 300maH). Rest a recently flattened car battery and the residual chemical reaction would give enough to charge/run a phone, or make a simple 2 cell battery ( half a dozen lemons and 12 zinc nails would do), use that to run the phone or fully charge the lipo in about 4-6 hours.
