The coat is beautiful. There's no mistaking it for any coat other than Rose's, regardless of the finishing details. The studio costumers customize those details in different versions, so we can, too. Make it comfortable. Wear it often and be fabulous.

I agree, a beautiful coat like this deserves to be worn daily🤩it would be a shame for it to be seen only on rare cosplay events.

The fact that there are so many different "canonical" versions of the same garment that aren't identical would drive me crazy if I were attempting a cosplay like this! My perfectionist brain would rebel against the lack of a single "definitive" version. But on the plus side, the variation means you can get away with making whatever decisions suit your tastes and time/material constraints, and still consider it a faithful recreation! It's already looking phenomenal so far! Good luck with the embroidery ^_^

I think the variation is helpful. It tells you that being perfectly exact is so unnecessary, they don't do it. It tells you the best solution is to suit yourself and your circumstances while overall looking the same. They don't get hung up on duplication when fitting look to action and environment, so neither should you.

You’re absolutely right. The fact that there is more than one version of the coat should be freeing rather than limiting. Figure out what works best for its new life as a cosplay garment.

Since the coats are all a bit different, suit yourself by doing a proper tailoring job. Which means a good neck facing and front facing and interfacing. Note I would line that pocket strip to keep it from stretching out of shape and fraying because it will get a lot of push and pull as you put hands in it.

WOW! All the research you have given to complete this coat! (And I believe other projects as well). I respect the facts that you have had to research that I would never gave thought about. Thank you, Rebecca!😊

I can see how not being able to be an exact match could be frustrating, but on the flip side, you can choose the variations that better suit your personal preferences. You have exquisite taste, so I can’t see any problems in that regard. Looking forward to part four. Take care ❤

After you showed the closeup of the coat with the fancier buttons, I am beginning to think the center front strip may be an extension of the facing. It may be that it is a tab folded over and not a seam down the front, thus no bulk.

I would consider covering the underside of the strip that is floating over the pocket opening with a color coordinated bias tape since you couldn't roll the hem under. Pockets get alot of use (as they should!) and I'm afraid if you don't protect it, it is going to fray out and that would be tragic with all the work that is going into this exquisite outfit. The tape would have to be handstitched in so the stitching wouldn't show on the outside of the garment, but the bias tape would not be visible since it is inside the pocket.

Wool fabric is really easy to shape if you steam the heck out of it and press it into shape, even on the straight grain.

An old tailoring trick is to steam press wool into a desired shape. You can get neat curves even with straight grain pieces that way. Wool is hair, so it is the same principle as setting hair into curls with a curling iron.

I think making a gorgeous coat that suits you, with good technique is better than making one that is screen-accurate. Especially since, as you mentioned, there may be SEVERAL of the same, made slightly differently in the movie.

@@LadyRebeccaFashions it's where instead of hooping your material you spray it on backing material.if. supposedly it stays but I'm not brave enough to try it. I have heard of it though.. your coat will look great when it's done. I can't wait to see it finished. theres lots of videos on floating fabric for embroidery ❤

@@kathyarmstrong5549 I guess that's kind of what I'm doing, since my fabric is being held to the stabilizer with basting and embroidery tape, and not going into the hoop.

I don't think there are strips sewn over at all on any of the seams. Those look like french seams with top stitching similar to the outside leg seam on jeans
