Thanks! Tracing a pattern is exactly what I needed.

Hi Lillian. So glad this was helpful. Learning to trace off patterns made such a difference to my dressmaking, giving me more opportunities to experiment with adjustments so I hope it does the same for you. Thank you for watching!

Thank you so much Denise - I am so glad you found it helpful. Do you have any particular projects on your sewing table at the moment? (I'm always curious about what patterns people are using!) 😀

Great video! I still have a question: How can I preserve the entire original pattern piece, with all its variety of sizes, while still using the pattern piece to cut out my fabric? Is there a "best practice" for this? Do I have to TRACE the lines I need onto pattern-making paper? Would it be easier to MARK the lines onto the fabric with a wheel and colored papers? Should I just cut the size I think I want and tape the pattern back together afterward? Many thanks!

Hi Lisa. Thanks for your message. Like you, I like to keep my original patterns so I buy plain or dot and cross pattern paper and trace the size or mix of sizes that I want for each pattern piece. This is also great for making adjustments as I often have to tweak the fit and prefer to do that on my copy. I used to put the paper over the pattern and trace but it can be difficult to see. So now I put the pattern on top of the paper and use a pin wheel to go around the size I want. This makes little holes in the paper that I then cut out or draw over. It might seem like tracing off your patterns is an extra effort and expense but I have found it definitely saves me time in the end. Good luck and let me know if you need more help!
