Really you covered everything. My 2 cents. 1. Deaden therefore your standing waves. Two educate yourself on your gear. 3. Practice be sure your ready to play all the way through your material. 4. Cables . By the best you can afford. Have as many replacements on hand as you can. 5. Picks . Strings drum sticks. 6. Snacks, drinks. Plenty of throat coat tea available for the singer.

You can see why this man is a legend. LITERALLY the perfect tips, he thought of everything cos he's actually done it. I don't need to do any of these things either but I can really appreciate sharing the knowledge. I'm in a home studio that fits the description of what he's saying to do verbatim haha.

Mitch you are so right about learning the sounds of instruments. A famous singer, songwriter & producer said, in his book This Business of Music, learning what each instrument sounds like is important. At the time I said I won't be using a French Horn in my music. With Finale it is so good to know what a Snare, triangle, Hi Hat sounds like....etc. hahahahaha I love Finale

Lots of music influencers have talked about this very topic before however if the professionals as yourself (Mitch backed up by Sweetwater) talked about it , is in my opinion way more valuable . Looking forward to more content like this , and hoping to learn more from you guys .

I mean I mean I never thought of rearranging my mic in how its placed for singing. I am going to try this to see if I hear a difference. I just might hear something that will make me cry from getting a wow effect. When we sing sometimes vocals are heard that you never knew you did while singing. I speaking about while applying compression. Thank you very much. Please keep it up for us beginners who are turning the door knob for more knowledge.

Having a good light in the studio cave also helps. Move around the lamps so knobs can be seen easily.. 💡 Much more pleasant working with gear

Part of the music major program at UAA was Sightsinging and Ear Training, such an awesome class and I'd recommend similar lessons/training for everyone! It's so helpful, and it'll step your music game way up.

Mitch, I watched many many videos on home recording but this is way the simplest and most informative I've watched. Looks like the bicycle shed with all the weeks washing hanging up to dry is not the worst place after all !

Reading operating manuals is highly important, most include many ways of using the piece of gear. Those three way monitors look very nice!

Very nice tips. Funny thing my sales rep called me today and I was just asking him for help with some of these things ... patch bays, integration, and ergonomics. I didn’t even realize this video had just been released.

Good tips. To me, the secret is listening on as many different speaker systems as possible. And I always check things out on Apple earbuds because they're probably the most common listening "speakers" out there.

Buying nice or buying twice is pretty important. Getting exactly the thing with more features than you think you need will prevent you from needing the new thing with more gadgets because your thing has features you don’t even know how to use

I would love to see a video with Mitch and Glenn Fricker do a video together. They both have the same recording ideas even though they like different music. It would fun and educational.

That was a great lecture. got me thinking about all kinds of aspects of the music room as i look around. "Honey, let me explain. When you fold the laundry and put it in the dresser, it doesnt absorb sound anymore, M'KAYYY?"

2:54 Framed pictures are great for breaking up reflections between opposing walls. Not the boxy frames that sit flat on the wall - use good old-fashioned ones with picture wire that face a little downwards. Framed pictures on picture shelves work too because the pictures face a little upwards. This doesn't work on room modes obviously but it complements absorbers placed at first reflection points.

I sure need help in reading a large manual. I tend to learn as I go, but then I realize you need to go back and finish. I purchased Primacoustic and wow. I have more to purchase .

What studio monitors would you recommend for a small desk and home studio? I use headphones for now, do you think it will be worth it to upgrade?

Hello, Ellie! Thanks for reaching out, it's Mickey from Sweetwater! Any studio monitors will give you another perspective than your headphones. If space is the main concern; many engineers, myself included, have found a fondness for the iLoud speaker set from IK Multimedia. They sound great, and not just for the price, and not just for their size. If that is not within your budget, I recommend speaking with a Sweetwater Sales Engineer more specifically!
