I went through your first GTB tutorial years ago and loved it then. You've improved on your videos tremendously and I've really enjoyed GTB 5.0 so far. Nice job!

I'm glad you've resolved your audio issue, it was very annoying to me, to the point where I've downloaded it, spent a couple of minutes fiddling around in Audacity and stitched it (audio+video) back together, reducing overall quality but bringing down that radio noise by a lot. I suggest you should do it on the raw audio file, where you likely have several seconds of "noise sample" where you're not talking. It's very quick and easy but makes a night and day difference, I was very impressed. There's a wikihow guide with screenshots and if you like, I can email you mp3's I've made for my own use. I had no idea what I was doing but it worked. Settings that worked for me were: effect>noise reduction: (the beginning of the video as a noise sample), 20dB, 13.5, 6 bands. Cheers.

For the 7555 footprint, why did we choose the one named SOIC-8 rather than SO-8? What does SOIC mean, and how are we supposed to know that when the spec sheet says SO8 we're supposed to use SOIC-8? I'm using KiCAD 8, if that matters.

When using the Footprint Library Browser from the symbol properties, there is no component sketch showing as there is in the video. I just have a blank white area next to the list of sub-components. How do I turn on the sketch?

What does 0805 2012 mean, what's that all about, why are we picking footprints with these numbers?
@wizardOfRobots
@wizardOfRobots 4 жыл бұрын
that's the size of the actual component(capacitor) you will be soldering on to the board. You have to pick a footprint with a size that matches those components. In this case, it's 0805 - 0.08 inch(2mm) long by 0.05inch(1.27mm) wide. Barely enough to pick up with your fingers.

@@wizardOfRobots Thanks, mate. I'm guessing 2012 is a year? I think in mm, so I reckon that's why my wee brain didn't make the connection that it was dimensions of the component.

@@RoastLambShanks Sure, no probs. I think it's the year the year the standard was made. it's called the 2012 metric. Not sure though.

I'm using KiCad 5.1.4 and my SOIC-8 footprint is in Housings_SOIC. I don't have a Packages library but have a SMD_Packages library. It doesn't have the proper SOIC-8 footprint.

Really appreciate what you do, but these videos need a hard script. You rattle on about absolutely nothing for 3 minutes, then skip over important parts lightning fast. Really frustrating, and makes these videos difficult to follow for beginners.

Mate you can just use pause and rewind, its not live. Agreed he does go over somethings fast but you can always rewind
