As someone who followed them from the start and was shocked when Kris first announced his departure, I agree. I know that there are reasons behind why some members left but there are reasons why others stayed too. Each has the right to choose a path. We watched Kris act with Vin Diesel and Luhan with Matt Damon. Personally I will always wish all 12 EXO members the best.

Don't worry you won't offend anyone by talking about the ex members. SM has always discriminated against their foreign idols which is why they left (there's a lot of details but I'll skip it). I wasn't a fan of exo while they were in the group but I support their leaving because it was what was best for their physical and mental health and most fans don't have bad feelings towards them. Some kfans and cfans have issues with the former members (to do with the way they left and specifically talking about Kris here) but most fans won't be upset if you talk about them ❤️ If you found this slow you might as well just skip to the individual guides rather than part 2. The individual guides are not completed for each member but it's probably worth waiting (the Mouma K guides arent as informative or accurate in comparison) but maybe you could react to some short videos about the members that havent got guides yet while you wait for them to be made. Thank you for reacting to EXO, I hope you can keep enjoying them (and don't worry too much about the concept outside the powers, treat it as optional if storylines aren't really your thing) Just adding extra detail: sehun is the visual and I think suho and chanyeol are also considered visuals (but exo is talked about by knetz as a no-visual-hole group, basically they're all good looking)

Kris, Luhan, and Tao are all still making music in China and most exo-ls that were there from the start still love them, honestly. I know my goofy ass does at least. And there's a lot of good, old content with them in it. Most people don't resent them for leaving SM because it's obvious why they did. They weren't being treated well. SM is kinda known for treating their Chinese idols like trash... Luhan was literally fainting on stage and had visible iv tracks on his hands before leaving. He wasn't sleeping and being worked way too hard. Kris was basically just... gaslit hard as fuck by the company a couple of times and said "fuck this, I'm out" and just went to china and never came back LOL Tao got injured and was still forced to preform pretty soon afterwards. His family got really angry that they had to find out about his injury from the news and that he wasn't being allowed to recover properly. So they basically pulled him out, mostly from fear. But like I said, all three still are active in China. Kris' music is... well. It usually makes me cringe, but I still love him. Luhan has some really pretty songs. Tao is a pretty solid rapper, came from more underground Chinese rap scenes before being picked up by sm. So there's lots to dig into there and you're going to see their faces a lot the further back you go.

A lot of EXO-Ls still say they love ot12, but most of us that actively support Kris, Luhan, and Tao's solo careers typically prefer people say they support "ot9 + ex3"~ Ot12 = "I support I cherish Kris, Luhan, & Tao when they're connected to EXO" ot9 + ex3 = "I support all current members of EXO *plus* KrisLuTao's individual solo projects" It's difficult for some EXO-Ls who were fans when their departures happened to forgive & some new fans might not invest feelings in them cause they don't invest time to go back and watch EXO's older stuff (specifically EXO-M's stuff)... I am absolutely in love with Baekhyun. He's seems like the most caring idol and ALWAYS makes sure to interact with fans, whether that's through Twitter, Instagram, or his KZbin channel. His voice is out of this world and he goes out of his way to constantly improve it, still taking vocal lessons! He also plays the piano and is incredibly talented overall. Not to mention his amazing dancing skills - ironically, he was considered to be pretty bad at first due to his extremely short 4 month training period . Now he's in the top 3 EXO dancers. He's very caring, extremely nice and funny. Everyone loves him cause he goes out of his way to make everyone feel comfortable. He's still underappreciated, but with his solos and personalities he gained an extremely strong and dedicated fanbase, which keeps growing as he goes. He keeps breaking all the records and always exceeds everyone's expectations. Truly a prodigy and the most charming and kind guy I've ever seen.

Hey austin, yup bit controversial even between exo fans, put unfair contracts and treatment for chinese member specially. It has been an issue in several SM groups... like 7years contracts for koreans and 13 year contracts for chinese... would need to dig cause i heard that a while ago though ^^

exo are under a 10 year contract which I think is put on hold during enlistment so 10+ years, they're one of the last kpop groups to ever be but under a slave contract (10 years) other groups since must have 7 years max - Chinese members are under the same length I think but the company just treated them like shit which is why they left. SM doesn't treat the Korean members well in the first place but the Chinese members were treated even worse.

Well anyways it started around that time maybe 2014 and like tao luhan and kris tried to nullify their contracts, got messy went to court, i think they lost cause sm had really safe guarded their contracts. @@TheLifaen I didn't know about the differing contract lengths so yeah maybe I should probably do some more research, and I'm Lay biased so its obvious to me that while I do believe he's loyal to exo and the members he definitely won't re-sign when the time comes - he has his own entertainment company now to focus on. He probably was treated as bad as the rest of lawsuit line but knew it wasn't worth nullifying (it's a massive cost and financial strain and it's not like his family is rich, and he wasn't that popular in exom at the time so he probably had low expectations for a solo career to make money) + once THAAD kicked off it became convenient because he could escape any mistreatment in China whilst not being expected to return for promotions. Thankfully he's done well to grow his own fanbase outside of cexols who don't like him very much. I think Kris cited his main reasons as a heart issue that SM wouldn't allow him time to seek medical attention for and lack of freedom, Taos was about his ankle injury that SM was forcing him to perform on and luhans was general mistreatment (I can't remember the specifics) but yea they all lost their court cases and are under SM until the contracts are up so they cant earn money from any promo in Korea and Japan.

So, being a Chinese member in a Korean-Chinese boygroup that has more activity in Korea than in China is... a little bit..... difficult. Things were fine in the first 2 years after debuted, but in 2014, a lot of things happened. Kris filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment to terminate his contract, due to lack of promotion and "had treated differently with EXO-K" and then left the group. Not long after that, still in 2014, Luhan followed Kris's step due to the same reasons. After that, they decided to just promote with EXO as one group but still singing in Korean and Mandarin. In 2015, they came back with EXODUS album (the title song is Call Me Baby) with 10 members. Tao was absent during Call Me Baby promotion because he was injured. In August 24, 2015, Tao followed Kris's and Luhan's step to left the group. Tao's reasons are mostly same with Kris and Luhan, but it's sadder with him because his injury has worsen due to SM's lack of treatment and attention. This is one of the main reason why he chose to left the group. So, after that, they're continue promoting with 9 members together, from Love Me Right era in 2015 until For Life era in the end of 2016. Since 2017 until now, Lay (the only remaining Chinese member) has been promoting in China as a soloist and absent with group activities. Actually, there's a political tension between Korea and China that making Lay in a difficult position (because China banned Hallyu or Korean wave in their country), so SM decided to just promote him in China. Beside that, Lay was an ambassador for a communist party in his hometown (2016-2019), while South Korea in general is an anti-communist country, so it's getting awkward and more difficult for him to join group activities like usual. Nevertheless, Lay is still communicating with the rest of EXO members and until this day, he is still a member of EXO. In Tempo MV which came out in 2018, there are 9 of them, but Lay didn't sing in this song. He got lines in Tempo Chinese version instead. In May 2019, Xiumin enlisted in the army and around 2 months later, D.O. followed Xiumin's step. That's why in Obsession MV, there are only 6 of them. On May 14, 2020, Suho (the leader) also enlisted, and that's marking the hiatus period of the group. They are focusing on their solos and subunits stuffs at the moment. On October 26, 2020, Chen also enlisted. Suho debuted as a soloist before the enlistment. Baekhyun comeback with his 2nd mini album and singing OSTs, EXO-SC also comeback with a full album, and Chen released an OST and a digital single. Lay also released some songs this year. Exo loves their fans so much, oh god where do I even start. Chanyeol has a tattoo "L-1485" which is the date where the fandom was created. Baekhyun told his fans that they should not buy their albums and instead, buy padded coats because it's cold. Sehun said to only buy 1 version of the album. There was also a time where they had a live with Chanyeol and a fan commented that she watched the live even though her examination is the day after, and Sehun and Chanyeol strictly said to LOG OUT PLEASE and told her to don't watch their live and study well. Kai said that their fans should study well. "If you're not good at studying, don't even think about liking me. Exo may seem like the most important thing to you now, but in a few years, you'll regret it. Focus more on your studies than us and meet us again proudly in the future." I also love how they discipline their fans especially D.O and Suho. They don't tolerate fans' rude behavior. There was a time when the fans almost got into a stampede because of their meet and greet and D.O said that if the fans will continue to be like thay, they'll postpone the fan meet.

Picking a bias is really difficult. I started knowing EXO only April 2020 (I'm a baby-L!). They're the only kpop group I'm following (for now, idk but might check out mamamoo) Prematurely picked Sehun as my bias, then moved to D.O because of his voice and charms. Chanyeol's my bias for over several months now - his deep voice and dorky character is very endearing.

I think it is good for people to talk about the early years of exo. I think the newer fans don't understand how important Kris and Luhan were to exo's popularity at the beginning (it was baekhyun and chanyeol in K that were really popular). Initially, Exo-m gained popularity much faster than K. They felt much more mature as a unit than K did and they were invited to a lot of shows outside of South Korea. I have always felt that it was strategic on SM's part to combine the groups for Wolf and Growl to capitalize on M's popularity. I had hoped that SM had learned from the mess that they made with Han Geng from Super Junior and would treat the Chinese exo members better, but they apparently did not. As much as it hurt when they left, I think they did the right thing. Once they were free from SM their popularity became even bigger in China. Luhan has quite a bit of solo work and he has a really lovely voice. Lay seems to be the one in the biggest spotlight these days. They have all done really well for themselves and I am still very proud of them. I agree with what others have said, you definitely need to react to Lay's Honey and Lit. Have several drinks on hand. It is almost impossible to pick a bias, so don't feel bad if yours fluctuates. Also, Baekhyun and Kai are also in the group Super M with members of other SM boy groups. And if you are looking for another boy band with excellent vocals, NCT has some amazing talent in it as well. But if you think exo is complicated, NCT is more, so I'd put them on the back burner.
