I know this game is like set in the Victorian era, but the aesthetic is so accurate it transported me back to my childhood in the mid-90s. Sitting in a dark, incredibly warm pub snug room, where the fireplace would be lit even in the middle of summer, playing my friend on the most battered Connect-4 you'd ever seen in your life, while our Dads were having a drink in the no-kids part of the pub.

The atmosphere is so great! Did you pick the paintings on a theme? I recognize the one at 28:37 because I’m obsessed with the hidden message/meaning of harassment and mourning in it but I don’t know that much art so I don’t recognize the rest really 😅

I relate to how Julia says she perceives music vocals, I absolutely blank on most of the lyrics and I have to actively sit down and read the lyrics to figure out what even the song was about
@LarryOfCamalot5 ай бұрын
I cannot relate. I do Lindy hop and I notice even when live performances of the songs have alternate lyrics from the normal while actively focusing on swing dancing with someone.
@elmatichos5 ай бұрын
I've noticed that with myself as well, but never thought much about it. I just thought I was bad at listening somehow, but as she described it, yes, I just hear the vocals as another instrument. This felt good to discover about myself :)
@M.Datura5 ай бұрын
I can kinda relate. I can't hear the actual lyrics without focusing, because I blank on sound eventually due to overload, but at the same time, I cannot stand listening to things in a language I understand when I need to focus, because I automatically *try* to hear the lyrics. It's exhausting.
@Lyfling5 ай бұрын
I absolutely relate to Julia with this. For me, especially with autism and adhd, I have all kinds of auditory processing issues. I can parse maybe 50% of the lyrics of new music at best, and need subtitles on almost everything I watch. Throw in some sort of background noise, and I am constantly having to ask people to repeat themselves. If this is a thing for you, look up auditory processing disorder. A lot of the information out there is in regards to children, but it is absolutely a part of executive dysfunction in all ages. I can’t imagine how much growing up deaf or being hard of hearing would exacerbate the issue.

The crying lady jump scare was so delayed I had let my guard down like "oh I guess we aren't actually getting jumps scared here" and then the hard cut psyched me out for a second as my brain tried to process if she had actually been at door the whole time and THEN I got that startled adrenaline rush. Very trippy very trippy

Okay the one at 1:59:28 was my favorite. Starting with the puddle of blood and the sound design guiding your eyes upwards until you're met with the reveal was super well done. And the visual of the body half-emerged from the ceiling in a mark the shape of the casket, only to get slowly slurped back up? Mwah. Chef's kiss

I know it was mentioned that the Ten Bells was a pub associated with Jack the Ripper, but the Newspaper article that you read that showed up after two bells also mentioned Inspector or Detective Abberline, and Inspector Abberline was the main investigator of the Jack the Ripper murders. I find all the little hints of story, the references to Jack the Ripper hinting at murders and the Lady Chatterly's Lover book hinting toward a motive... It's fascinating and something you don't get in most of these anomaly games, and I think this is brilliant!
@Kralisedra5 ай бұрын
I immediately perked up when I heard Inspector Abberline's name. He was a pretty influential investigator in the Jack the Ripper case, which is definitely what I know him from and definitely not from Black Butler. Definitely.

Re: Julia's stance on music, I'm a writer but I'm honestly much the same. Particularly great or particularly bad lyrics _can_ jump the fence and make or break a song for me, but otherwise the vocals are essentially just another instrument that happens to be using words that I may or may not process. Given her point about not understanding folks well when they're singing (something I don't always suffer from, but can definitely understand), I wonder if it might just stem from auditory processing issues in general. I've certainly got plenty of those myself...
@mothwingsintheforest5 ай бұрын
note: the term "fugue state" refers to a dissociative amnesia experience of confusion or loss of identity, usually in response to a traumatic or overwhelming event. It's one of those terms I've seen coming into mainstream not quite being represented accurately so I wanted to make sure to note it in case anyone didn't know!

Hearing Julia talk about how she processes music was so affirming as I process lyrics similarly. When I am singing my body focuses on the physical act of singing which is separate to me than the mental act of language which is why I can have really great pitch and be absolute garbage at karaoke lol
@M.Datura5 ай бұрын
SAME! I do hear lyrics when I listen to music, to an incredibly annoying degree, but when I sing I don't process words! I really have to know a song to sing it, but when I do know it properly, I know every little change in intonation, every hint of vibrato, (if I learned it by listening). Biggest compliment I ever got as a kid was that someone thought I was playing an acoustic version of a song when I was just singing it myself. I did not speak the language (yet).

Damn, that intro is a jam. I don't know if any of you youngens are gonna know of it, but back in the day (1999-2000s) OCremix was a place where video game music and remixes were uploaded and preserved. Due to copyright it was mostly popular on internet radio, which is sort of a precursor to podcasts/streams in that it'd often be pre-recorded and then premiered on internet radio. Well, this tune sort of taps into a tradition of songs that was made popular in the drone/doom scene with bands like Sunn O))), Yawning Man and probably many more I just can't think of right now, and creators on OCremix like Psycho Crusher.
