Partial Solution for Mac Users: Feb 2023...using an Open Office Presentation file. 1) Export illustrator to emf file; 2) New prez file in Open Office; 3) insert picture; 4) Select picture. Use pop up menu to select "Break"; 5) Save as .odp file; 6) Open in Powerpoint. You now have separate graphics/shapes. Downside: "Break" will separate words into single letters when open in PPT. I re-did my type in Powerpoint.

Sounds great and this may have worked in 2017 on a PC but on a Mac in December 2021. I had to post this as I've spent the last 2 hours trying to work it out on a work project - this is what you do:

Mac PowerPoint 2016 only lists "Unformatted Text" and "PDF" in the Paste Special dialog.

Did you get a solution? i have the same problem!

@@katerinaikalina I found out it's an Office for Mac thing. It works going from Illustrator to PowerPoint in Windows, but not in the Mac version. All I was needed for that project was some infographic icons in vector so I found some packs of vector icons already in PowerPoint to purchase and went that route. If I have to create a custom Illustrator vector for PowerPoint in the future I'll probably create it and sent the file to a friend using a Windows PC, have them place it in a PowerPoint doc and send it back to me.

Hey! I am on a Mac with the most updated version of Powerpoint, and I was having the same issue as @Joy Dee. Solution: Export your image/shape from Illustrator to 'Enhanced metafile' instead of copying and pasting it on Powerpoint. From that, you import this image into Powerpoint and done :)!
