I always hated how the inmates turned on him. Any of these guys would’ve been broken at this point.

But the whole point of the story is that he is a symbol of hope and defiance for them to live vicariously through.

The boss’s voice is the scariest thing about him. Someone that vicious and dangerous and then speaking so sparsely and so quietly makes him appear like a predator who’s counting the seconds to when he’ll kill his prey. Every word weighs a ton.

@@miamitten1123 yep and it was probably from PTSD (my opinion). The only time you see the American flag (as far as I know) is in the beginning when the warden is saying “says here you did pretty good in the war (WWII no doubt) Silver Star, Bronze Star, couple of Purple Heart’s” he remains expressionless; meant nothing to him as that flag waves behind him.

The inmates turned on him because he was their unbreakable hero up until that point, he wouldn’t go down under anything before. Seeing that made them lose faith in him because they sort of stopped seeing him as a real human being at that point. (hence all the prior christ imagery) it ain’t right but that’s why (in my opinion)
@XJarhead3606 жыл бұрын
Although this is a movie it depicts that everyone has a breaking point. Ask any POW. The only individual who did not break was DEA Agent Enrique Camarena who was tortured for 3 days and never gave his drug captors any information before he died.
@cokekola84776 жыл бұрын
2027850 there could’ve been plenty of POWs that didn’t give up information. And like Kiki, they probably ended up dead. And I’m pretty sure Enrique did give up information and that’s why they had several recorded tapes.

@@billianddarbis3582 why make so many assumptions? We're not even sure why he said what he said? Trying to understand why this scene would ruin the film for some (though not for me), I think that ultimately when he does run away at the end and chalks it up to, they broke me... i dont plan anything, we, the viewer,dont really believe it. The whole film we see him as a triumphant hero, beat and hurt but never submitting. Finally, we think , he has. He seeks God. Only for him to run away, what 2-4 scenes later?

Luke wasn't invincible. He was human. A human being can only take so much. The threat of being killed wasn't enough to stop Luke from trying to escape again.
