Must be a west Michigan guy with a couple of those references you made. Your enthusiasm for the power puller got my attention. I should give that another look. I was kind of looking more towards the kind that feed the rope through rather than spool it up so that I don't run out of rope &have to reset. And you are so right about keeping a little saw on hand. Your options increase dramatically when you can just step off the trail and cut up some cribbing.

Excellent! For snow up here in Alaska, tire chains on the front work well. A logger's snatch block pulley also is a great thing to have...25,000 working pounds.

Great video Jason. I do rural mail, lost my 4 wheel early in one shift, then got stuck on ice by a box. The mat under the wheel worked to get me going. Saved me finding someone to pull me. I agree it's not ideal but can work.

I love your recovery videos, extremely useful info! i have an AWD 21 Honda RL (for now) with very poor clearance and no apparent recovery points. I figure there are lots of vehicles out there with no apparent recovery points. Any ideas on what could be used as a recovery point on this vehicle?
@SamkoTradBow Жыл бұрын
Great question. But a nylon tow bridal. It's about 70 bucks. It what tow truck drivers use to recover vehicles. I always carried one in any vehicle I owned that didn't have recovery points. This bridal has 2 straps that connect to a d ring to attach to the pull strap, winch etc. The 2 legs eack have a combination of j hooks, and different hooks to lock into the holes on all vehicle frames.

More great ideas explained, thanks again! You were talking about doing Amazombie but everything that you were talking about I would go straight to Harbor Freight. Years ago when I was still running a fuel truck I was shown when wheel spinning on ice to pour a bit of bleach straight out of the bottle onto the tire and by slowly walking your truck forward you can get moving again.

Good video, I would recommend that you look into “soft shackles”. They can be made to be adjustable and serve all the purpose that metal shackles do, just much more safely.
@SamkoTradBow3 жыл бұрын
Great suggestion! I use soft shackles when connecting straps together. The metal ones are great when hooking to hitch points and other recovery pints as you can pull at an angle with out cutting the soft shackle. But softs are to only way to go for anything that can snap back of a strap breaks.

I thought you were gonna talk about a flip flop winch. That’s always a good way to pull yourself out if you don’t have a come a long
@SamkoTradBow5 жыл бұрын
Yep flip flop is a great winch but requires some set up and work and can be dangerous if they dont know what they are doing. But you are 100% correct that's a great skill to have and worth people learning to do correctly. Thanks for the tip!

tow straps would work great for winching, but maybe carry (in addition) a RECOVERY strap, or better yet a kinetic rope.

Great instructional video. Do you carry the 20 and 30ft tow straps for being rescued by another vehicle, or to lengthen your winch line?
@SamkoTradBow4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Always a minimum of 1 20 footer and 1 30 footer. In my new ram 2500 I have 2 30 footers 1 20 footer and 2 8 footers.
@SamkoTradBow4 жыл бұрын
Also buy good ones like I link to in the video or on my ram video or my vehicle edc video. 30 bucks buys a good strap these days. and they are worth it over the cheap ones that break and fray.
@Matt-xi8zr4 жыл бұрын
In the Q&A section of your Amazon link for these straps, the TGL-Global seller states there is still a some stretch, but not a lot (around 7%). I was worried that 7% stretch would be detrimental when winching. It sounds like it works great for you. Thank you!
@SamkoTradBow4 жыл бұрын
@@Matt-xi8zr I have not had any issues with them. I think that little stretch is normal. I also dont have a winch on my truck other than my weith scott power puller. The times I have used that winch the straps worked great. Having other vehicles pull me out or me pulling them the straps also worked fantastic.

i'm a solo snow plower and got stuck. i used the rubber track grabbers and was able to get out of the snow drift. 1 of them did get damaged and as i saw on a youtube video, they get STUCK on your vehicle. you have to pry them off with a large screw driver. but i didn't have to call a tow truck and wait 2 hours so i guess it's a win.

I think the winch manufacturers are in danger of being replaced by a couple of Harbor Freight tie-down strap! What could possibly go wrong with the "wheel strap winch" configuration? Lets see, add about 6" of mud, and another 4" of ice, a couple of rocks and the center cross member balanced on a rock. I can't imagine anyone with half a brain even considering winching a vehicle in this manner. If I am wrong, go get that RAM stuck in a real mud hole with ice and water and show everyone how to get unstuck! Be sure to install a winch before you try it, we don't want to have to send out search and rescue who probably have real winches. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you called Dodge stupid for building a truck without a locker and you bought one!
