This is the reel I use for my topwater 40lɓ braid and a vixen or spook schooling fish can't get out of reach... Got a couple more coming to replace a couple of my Lews BB1 pros for cranking. These really are the best casting reels you can buy for the money in my opinion.

Hey JP I never knew Shimano reels could cast that far that's insane 198 ft that reel can outcast my lews reels I think I'm seriously going to be switching to schimino and yes I'm subscribed bud. But what a beautiful casting reel anyway God bless you and your family. Ps JP that is a extremely impressive reel the only reel I've ever seen do that was the orange reel that 13 fishing had yrs ago it had no bearings but the Shimano reels have bearings awesome outstanding casting distance. Thanks for the video it makes me want to switch over to shimino reels.

Hey. Very nice video and helpful.I like Your casting technique. I just have question are You using back up line under braid? Which size braid for curado dc 151 will be best?,sitting on westin w3 10-30gr texas/carolina.have one but no so happy with casting distance .Its spolled 25lbs Momoi lure soul and half on the spool is back up line.I will really appreciate advice. Don’t use a backing. Just tie an arbor knot to the spool with braid and place a small piece of tape over the knot, I got the spool and reel on the line. The tape will stop the slipping. Depending on the cover you are fishing you can fish from 30-65lb braid on the 151 but 65 can be casted all the way to the end if you’re proficient with the reel.

Hey man, i bought a curado m 201hg, ive only had one problem. it will only let me open and close the side of the reel if my tension nob is very loose. If it is tight, there is resistance on the switch and does not let me freely turn it. is this regular? when it is loose the switch opens and closes smoothly. some advice would be great thanks @JP DeRose

That is normal because when you tighten the spool the sooner knob, it essentially pushes the spool shaft out towards the side plate.

Is this your longest casting bass baitcaster? How would it compare to curado dc regarding casting distance?

I think the MGL Spool 3 is a better distance casting reel than DC. DC offers more control in specific instances with the micro computer

Do you think it can handle 3/8 to 1/2 oz lures im going be using it for manly crank baits/ squarebills ? Or should I just get a 150MGL

If you want casting distance / line capacity for bigger cranks or heavier line I would stick with the 200M but the 150 MGL is lighter and pretty much as efficient at casting and is an amazing reel that I use in a lot of circumstances as well

#JPDeRose Hey JP, new subscriber and love what i've seen so far in last few videos 👍 I do have a Shimano question, just based on what you may or may not know, just looking for your best opinion. Is there value in getting a DC reel, Curado DC is what i'm looking at. At this point i'm concerned having the addition of DC technology and losing the standard feel of non-DC casting. We all do some sort of thumbing of spool when we cast. I am thinking that having a DC reel will involve less thumb needed, but that really changes the whole feel of natural casting. I'm far from an expert or seasoned baitcaster user. I'm very new and still working on getting great distance. I'm sure DC would help me at this stage BUT I'm a buy once, cry once kind of guy, I don't plan on upgrading any equipment once i buy, any time in future.

Thanks for the sub! Regarding DC reels, the nice thing about them is that you can control the amount of assistance the microcomputer gives you just by turning the dial. Number 4 offers the most assistance, Number 1 the least so you can still have the feel of a normal, non DC reel if you want, or if you want to have more control in tougher situations like casting into the wind, it’s right at your fingertips. DC reels don’t cast further, in fact I thing MGL spool 3 equipped Shimano’s offer the most distance but only to a trained thumb. The DC reels are a great equalizer and honestly I don’t adjust anything in my casting when I switch back and forth.

@@tims_always_fishing7117 sIlent tune is actually just a rubber o-ring in between the spool and bearing. It most definitely absorbs shock and reduces sensitivity.

I put gomexus handles on my reels for power, I don't normally throw a jig or texas rig, my expride or poison adrena is sensitive enough to not rely on the reel. I've never heard anyone talk about feeling the bite from a reel handle.
