Were you using espresso coffee or regular coffee beans? Is there a difference between coffee/espresso and does it matter?

When the coffee packaging is labeled "Espresso" that is typically referring to the type of roast level, not necessarily meaning it is best for espresso making. I use coffee from a local roaster but have also used grocery store coffee. Freshly roasted coffee will produce better results but that has nothing to do with the machine. I would suggest trying different coffee beans to see what you like.
