Gevorg, or on Being Pagan in Christian Armenia

In Armenia national identity and religion are intertwined - you are Armenian, hence you are Christian. Gevorg Ghazaryan started questioning this postulate when he was still a schoolboy. Now 28, he defines himself as a pagan and adheres to the traditions of the country’s pre-Christian paganism - he regularly attends ceremonies in the colonnaded temple of Garni, in central Armenia, which has been the renowned symbol of Armenia before conversion to Christianity in 301 AD.
The journalist-soon-to-be-archeologist believes that neo-Paganism reconnects with the authentic Armenian roots - followers like Gevorg honor Vahagn, God of fire and war in ancient Armenia. According to the 2011 census, 5,434 Armenians identify themselves as pagans, the majority of them in Yerevan.
Gevorg does not preach his faith - while people occasionally question his beliefs, he never has.

I'm interested in pagan Armenia, because the pagan Armenian gods are native to Armenia. Christianity is foreign Christianity comes from Judaism. It’s common knowledge by now. The fact that Judeo-Christianity has Jewish roots is commonsense! The Bible is full of information on Israelites. It’s all about children of Israel this children of Israel that. The Bible says zero about Armenians, or Slavs/Europeans or any other people. The Bible is all about Jewish mythology, Jewish history. All of the disciples of Christ were Jews. Christ was a Jew. There’s nothing wrong with that, there’s nothing wrong with Jews, but what I’m saying is that Christianity is for Jews, all forms of Abrahamic religion had the same Jewish roots. Why would anyone want to worship yahweh/Jehovah anyway? Christians everywhere assume that the god of the Bible is so just, loving and merciful but if you read the Bible you’ll learn that the god of the Bible is actually the opposite of merciful, Just, peaceful or loving. The god of Bible is actually very bloodthirsty, jealous, merciless, and psychopathic. Why is it so invisible to Christians that Christianity and all forms of Abrahamism were the earlier forms of globalism. Basically you can be from any part of world, you can be from any nation, any ethnic group, any race and still be a Christian/Catholic/orthodox/Islam/Judaism. Because these religions are anti-ethnic, anti-native, anti-indigenous in their nature, religions of Abraham are globalist. Prior to the spread of Christianity/and other forms of Abrahamism, all native ethnic tribes and kingdoms had their own native ethnic spirituality and traditions. It was an ancestral folk Faith, it was nature-based spirituality

Karna I agree with you. They teach us that Christianity was welcomed by the world with open arms, but nothing could be further from the truth. Christianity has a bloody evil past that they are hiding from us. All forms of Abrahamic religions. Armenians just like other indigenous peoples around the world had their own native pagan gods and goddesses, their own native ethnic spiritual heritage, and traditions. I do not identify Armenia with Christianity as most Armenians do. I am half Armenian, half Russian. I was born in Russia and raised there until age 13 at which point my parents moved us to USA Florida. both sides of my heritage the Russian, and the Armenian originally had their own native spiritual heritage and gods, until Christianity was forced on them. This happened to many indigenous people around the world. The old tribal lifestyle, small kin-based societies were destroyed, and people were made to forget how to live self-sufficiently. Christianity brought their own Christian rulers. Those agents of reformers, and placed them on the throne of all countries that they dominated. Today we have large countries, nations with government systems.

@Mocanu Stefan Never mind, it' ok. Οrthodoxy and Catholicism have indeed many relics from grecoroman paganism (likewise Shia Islam from pre-islamic Persia). But these are only on the surface. Their deepest essense is very different from that which you call "neopaganism" (Ι'm not neopagan, I have just returned to the religion of my forefathers). I believe that the Cosmos is eternal (not ex nihilo created by one God), full of divinity and also believe in the sanctity of Nature.

NO single religion should be connected to Armenian identity. We should embrace all genetically Armenian Muslim, Pagan, Mormon, and all Christian branches (Catholic, Jehov's Witness, Orthodox, etc.) Buddhists, and let them know that they are Armenian first and their religion is a personal choice and that's it!! All of us should be LOYAL to our nationality first and NOT allow domestic or foreign theories of God or spirituality to break us up and sow the seeds of self-sabotage.
