I have a gorgeous M1871 bayonet that doesn’t have any imperial proofs on it or date on the spine of the blade. It has the makers mark of Wyersberg & Kischbaum Solingen. I asked another collector and he thinks it is not a dress bayonet (those would not have a functional locking mechanism or might not be slotted for a lug), but a salesman sample for commercial/export sale. Any thoughts?

It sounds like a commercially made one to me

For a museum piece is such a disaster imo. Its a great historical bayonet. It needs some take and care😢 badly, i have the same in my collection with a sawback, so i know what it looks like in person. The museum needs to upgrade

It's nicer than it looks, under the lacquer it's not too bad. I don't think they will remove it though

Ouf. Thats in bad shape :D A friend of mine has one with scabbard in mint condition. And hes not even any sort of collector. Theyre quite common in germany.
