I always adored bolt action rifles. There is something really satisfying when you pull the bolt and see the round go live.

I enjoyed you Mauser presentation due to my owning a '93 7x57 Mauser Made in 1898. Such smooth actions, my Remington 700 can't compae. I sporterized it a college class as the instructor gave me advice and direction. I also viewed your store and from all that I can agree that whenever I encounter someone that enjoys firearms as much as myself, the conversation can endure for hours. LOL. Good exercise for personal communication as well as sharing and/or augmenting knowledge, making friends and furthering the interest in a basic fundamental of our great nation.

I own dozens of firearms and some of them are quite exspensive, but out of all of them the one I enjoy shooting the most is my WW2 German K-98 Mauser. Made in 1944 and shoots like it was made in 2004
@amtrakjohn7 жыл бұрын
Adam- I agree. They're the quintessential Bolt Actions; the original Mausers made of Krupp steel. The real deal-- look at some modern rifles like the Ruger M77s, some CZs, etc. and see the lineage, all started by the G-98 and K-98. (Also the US Springfield orig. .30/06 bolt action was right up there too.) Thanks Hickok, for Chapter 2.

I love Mauser action rifles. I have a couple of German made Mausers, a CZ550 308 Mauser action, an absolutely beautifully made Zastava Mauser action rifle. I routinely shoot a pre WW1 Mauser action rifle, made in Oberndorf, Sporter Stock, Fluted barrel, chambered in 30-06. Great shooting rifle, deadly accurate. The Receiver looks and feels almost new, considering it's age, amazing. They are all well made, the Mauser action is the best in the world.

Absolutely. I don’t own a German Gewehr 98 myself but I do own a Persian Mauser 98/29, which is almost literally the same rifle in quality except for some minor differences. it doesn’t have the Lange Vizier rear sight, it’s doesn’t have a black bolt and the front sight is slightly different (if has sturdy front sight guard prongs). The Mauser 98 is a absolute beast to own and I know why Hickok 45 has a rubber butt pad, it’s not to “make the gun a little longer”, it’s because it kicks like a mule.

Me and my dad broke out the kar98 this year sometime so I could should it(never shot it before). My dad hip fired it on the first shot to make sure it still works(hasn't been shot in a while), after he shot it he had the biggest smile on his face, he calls it the cannon since it's a deep boom. When I shot it it felt weird since I only shot his 30-30 Winchester(biggest caliber I shot before it). It felt like it had more recoil, but easier to control and felt way better in the shoulder than the 30-30. I asked my dad if I could have it since I love it so much(was his father's, then he gave it to my dad), and he said eventually. Next time I go shooting were taking it out again for sure. Wish my grandpa was still around since he'd shoot with us. It's a gun that always brings a smile on your face

What a beauty and excellent comments about cost of ammo. These are classics and you don't have to run a hundred rounds through one to appreciate the machining quality and workmanship. Mine has a small impression of the "Nazi eagle" tapped into the side of the barrel. However, when you are using one and then you switch over to the M1 Garand, you realize quickly how the Mauser met it's match in the M1. That smooth and rapid Semi auto firing of the M1 (followed by the trademark "clink") was a devastating adversary for the Mauser or the Mosin Nagant, etc. Thanks.

Love the big splat mark from those big rounds! Ouch! Would not want to be on the receiving end of that one! I got to shoot one years ago and was amazed at the accuracy.

I watched both videos. I inherited a very nice example from my Grandpa. From the first video, I had the same cosmoline issue Hickok mentioned. What a pain it was! I got it all off eventually. Patience and decent solvents seemed to do the trick. The action is really slick. I have shot other versions of the rifle and it's just one of the designs that is really hard to improve. You can make them smoother (my 1911s come to mind) but out of the box, mil spec is pretty damn good.

I bought one for 200.00. The catch....it's been sporterized. It is tasteful though. Original stock with some reprofiling with checkering added. Barrel has been shortened. She's still wearing her factory sights which is a huge plus in my opinion. Very light and handy rifle. 1916 Spandau manufacture. Shoots great!!! I did have to install a Wolff extra power firing pin spring to set off the hard primers in my 50s dated Yugoslavian 8mm but it was easy.

Best thing about the Mauser is that damn near every bolt-action rifle you grab is one. Damn near every bolt-action that isn't specifically a Lee Einfield or a Mosin uses a Mauser action. There have been more Mauser bolt-actions produced than even AK pattern rifles.
