Absolutely, no I'm not going down those dark stairs, no I'm not going into that abandoned building, no I'm not going stand around wondering if the axe wielding maniac who's just cut my friend to pieces is dead after I've just hit him with a bit of wood, yes I am going to keep hitting him and my personal favourite absolutely not going to be asking the clearly obvious zombie if they are alright man

It's the thrill of being scared without having to face any of the consequences
@zkiller1952 ай бұрын
As someone who's not a big horror fan, this is what I don't understand. How does a movie make you scared? I understand that if those things were happening to you in real life, it would be scary. But it's not. It's happening on a screen. There are horror movies that I enjoy, but they require things like an interesting plot, strong writing, and good acting, which the vast majority of horror movies lack.
@Ennaitak2 ай бұрын
@zkiller195 You're not really scared for yourself. You're scared for the character on screen about to be killed. If a movie is well written, you can make you like and relate to the characters, and you wonder if and how they'll get out of their situation. For other people, it's a form of escapism and self inserting.

The same reason people love Roller Coasters. It's an exciting and controllable moment of a basic human emotion that you can't voluntarily turn on and off when you're bored. It's fun to be scared, its fun to go to six flags, its fun to have that rush of uncontrollable and raw feeling. At least that's how I explain it to people.

Nah, Coraline is scary as fuck and the book is even worse. Blood and gore don't really do anything for me, though. Heres the thing... being happy all the time is actually insane. I like experiencing a wide range of emotions because I'm a human being. Im not really a fan of the gore genre, but that wince I get from seeing it tells me im well adjusted and have a sense of empathy. The pain I feel when one of my favorite characters is lost forever is a sign that I can and do love. Even if its fiction. The world isnt always bright and shiny. There are dark places where dark things happen. Everyone would do well to remember that.
