We need more study. We have many health problems today. Mental cognition, depression ar very serious issues. If nic can help us we need to know the truth. Burning smoke is a horrible delivery.

Thanks for uploading the video on this topic, there is a surprisingly lack of literature on the subject. And Most of what we have is weak, essentially a mix of rats, cell culture, and poor attempts to extrapolate from cigarettes to other forms of nicotine consumption.

In his lecture, Benowitz speaks of the addictive nature of nicotine. If it's the nicotine that's so addicting in smoking, why did Fagerström rename his test from nicotine to tobacco dependence? Why do scientists say that nicotine is comparable to caffeine? Why are there so many contradicting statements about nicotine? Nicotine is bad for health - Nicotine is beneficial to health. Nicotine affects the brain development of teenagers, but where are the millions of brain damaged smokers who started smoking as teenagers? Some say that tobacco smoking is addictive, but pure nicotine is not (never-smokers show no sign of nicotine dependence after 6 months of daily nicotine consumption). Others say that nicotine in any form is highly addicting. If the latter is true, why is easy to reduce the nicotine in non-combustible substitutes of cigarettes for most users (not all)? Who should we believe? What is right? A personal note: my blood pressure dropped dramatically after I substituted smoking with vaping (182:106 to 130:90). If the nicotine alone is responsible for an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, shouldn't my blood pressure stayed high?

I absolutely agree. Case and point: look at how much scientists argue about sugar.
@Plutonic_Blue3 жыл бұрын
Well it’s a fact that nicotine restricts your blood flow and coronary arteries..so excess nicotine = more constricted blood flow and arteries = higher risk of heart attack. Nicotine is not good for you but vaping it is def better than smoking it as long as you can moderate it
@Thebusysuperhuman2 жыл бұрын
@@Dad_Brad it’s pretty clear about sugar and the health consequences. As you said it’s still unclear about nicotine as it as many positive effects, unlike sugar which has none. So I’m also still confused 20yrs later if Nicotine can be used for medical reasons like mental health or Parkinson’s

Our bodies have nicotinic receptors from head to toe. They are designed to receive acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter produced in our bodies. However, nicotine, not produced in our bodies, does a very good job of activating these receptors, releasing dopamine. Dopamine is the feel good chemical. This is the process that is addictive. Nicotine, by itself, is very addictive. The more nicotine that is taken in, the more receptors our body produces, increasing the cravings for more nicotine. No smooth talking official can change that. There are some really good videos, on KZbin, that explain the biochemistry behind smoking and nicotine in great detail. Once you understand those videos, no one can pull the wool over your eyes. This presenter kept saying they just don't know, funny since nicotine naturally occurs in tobacco, and how long have people been using tobacco? Thanks for your comments, everything helps.

I quit a week ago and my aortic valve prolapse is acting up. My guess is that after 29 years, my heart and other systems had become dependent upon the presence of the various chemicals in cigarettes, to the point that temporary harm is resulting. Quite temporary. I quit cold turkey-only way to do it. Vaping is NOT quitting, folks!

Seems l8ke there is a lot of things that's being said is followed by " we just don't know" . Things also are possible. So, is there anything that is actually known?

I just watched another doctor say nicotine is completely benign and great for insulin suppression therefore appetite suppression. I know when I don't have the gum, I eat and eat and eat, nicotine changes brain waves. We are born with nicotine receptors in the brain!

Well.. No! You don't born with nicotine receptors in your brain. You born with receptors for internal chemical messengers that are produced by your body. Nicotine as many other drugs and/or poisons have a similar structure that binds to the receptors.
