I’m a nurse, and when I learned about the nicotinic receptors it made me think that there had to be some benefits from nicotine. then we learned that smokers are actually at less risk for developing colon cancer than non smokers. Of course, in general, smoking increases the risks for a multitude of illnesses, but the effects on colon cancer is so interesting when you think about how smoking “prevents” constipation. Again, the point being that it’s NOT the smoking that provides protection, but the nicotine. Super interesting info Mike! Thank you!

While cigars themselves contain up to 400mg of nicotine, data shows the average actually absorbed when properly consumed (not inhaling) is around 1 to 4.5 MG. I have noticed much better sleep, and considerable relief from anxiety smoking 1 to 2 cigars a week.

I confirm that smoking helps schizophrenia symptoms. I remember learning this curious fact many years ago in med school. Dopaminergic pathways are involved in both schizophrenia and Parkinson’s. And cholinergic pathways play a significant role in Alzheimer’s which is why the main treatment consists of meds that increase acetylcholine in the brain. Interesting to know that nicotine affects both. Great presentation!

You didn't mention anything in regards to dose but I think it's very important. If you suspect that it could be of benefit to you, start extremely low. For example I've found 1/4th of a milligram to be sufficient for me to have positive effects. Additionally the effects don't get meaningfully better if i doubled or tripled the dose. And I'm glad you mentioned this: use it as needed for brain work or whenever you anticipate needing extra focus. For my first month of usage I was on 1mg every day, and predictably i got slightly addicted and the benefits waned. I've found once or twice a week, very specifically timed that nicotine gave me great benefits. For reference I'm an 80kg male, so base your dosage off of that if you're thinking of trying this.

As someone with ADHD and other learning disabilities, nicotine (in safer delivery devices than smoking/vaping like pouches or gum) has absolutely helped my focus and concentration in the classroom environment. I used to have an endless 'brain fog' feeling and focusing in class felt almost impossible with how fast my brain moved. It's helped me be able to slow down my rapid thoughts, and place my mental focus in one place. Not to say there aren't downsides, but for me, the benefits greatly outweigh the negatives. Just don't start smoking cigs, you just look homeless.

been a pipe smoker since 1970. never inhaled the smoke, just enjoy the flavour, also enjoy the fact that it does 'help me think' and relaxes me. in my 70s now, still have a pipe a couple times a day, my memory, cognition, etc., excellent. I am a writer also, I find it helps me. the habit has other benefits, I am the same weight, waist size, as I was in high school. when others eat, I go out to the patio and have a pipe. I am also low carb and have been for decades.

Two pipe makers I like, they make excellent high quality product, i.e. Peterson's (Ireland) and Savenelli (Italy), good price point. On tobacco, I am a native Southerner (Dixie), but have lived and spent much time in Ireland and the UK. It was there I found 'real' tobacco. There are different styles of tobacco, English, Lakeland, straight Virginia, etc., I go with the Lakelands. I call them the Celtic type tobaccos. Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth are my absolute favourites. Dark Flake, either scented or unscented, or Samuel Gawith 1792. Heavy nicotine hit on those. I never inhale the smoke, no need, you will feel it without inhaling. On pipes, recommend one with at least a six inch stem and with a acrylic bit. I have a large beard, so I use straight stems (safer that way). I have yet to find an American produced pipe tobacco that is good, so I have to order the ones mentioned above. I do like pipe smoking, even before I knew it was 'good' for you, I knew. There are several US shops that carry all these products. Just search on line. Pipe smoking helps with thinking, memory, relaxation, etc. Jung, Tolkien, etc., all knew this. Then in the low Carb research community, there is research on the use of nicotine for cognition (even the military researches this, as it works). Hope this helps, enjoy your pipe ole lad.

@@geodude6244 Try some of the Lakelands, Gawith dark flake, you will get a buzz from it, with no need to inhale. Samuel Gawith 1792 same deal, very strong nicotine content, any of the dark flake UK/Irish style tobaccos will do that. They are 'fired' flakes so smoke very cool also, no tongue bite. I do drink and daily, but have never abused the drink, never drink to excess. My pipe and my drink, adds much to my quality of life, which at my age looms large in my context.

I read and article years ago about the use of nicotine patches to help with cognition in individuals with Down Syndrome. My oldest has DS but wife was completely opposed to trying them out even intermittently. I like how you phrased it "we need to disentangle cancer from nicotine". I arrived at that conclusion many years ago, but she's not there yet.

I was fasting religiously and doing OMAD but I’ve been hearing how for women, it can really mess with your hormones. I kinda dismissed the claim because Ive researched how healthy it is to fast until I started feeling really crappy. My doctor ran a hormone panel and it may be coincidence (I’m also in my late 40’s) but all my hormone levels were in the gutter! Im now taking bio-identical hormones to get me back to normal. I have since stopped doing intermittent fasting and eat something light in the late morning. Just something to watch out for as a woman.

Wow, this may help explain my health improvements since starting smoking only a few puffs throughout the day of pipe tobacco. Not large amounts but over the time I've been doing it my gastro health has skyrocketed and swelling from arthritis etc has plummeted. Don't smoke but if you do, not cigs and not much.

The tobacco pipe is a great comfort. I enjoyed it dearly throughout my 20's. These days I use nicotine pouches (Skruf), not quite so relaxing, contemplative and enjoyable as a nice pipe, but it delivers the vitamin N discretely and does the job.

I found it interesting that you mentioned that constipation and Parkinsons are related. Because you learn in ayurvedic medicine it is absolutely clear that they belong together. As for my experience I have to add that I have never seen a better effect on Parkinsons as with ayurvedic treatment. Im not going to lie, i've been on and off tobacco-free nictone snus packets for the past couple of years (never smoked). I can confirm a number of the topics discussed and I think for me, it's a good occasional nootropic when I need an extra focus boost. I keep nic use sporadic enough so it doesn't become a damaging habit again, and it is good to know we're in an age with tobacco/smoke free options available.

I’ve been vaping with very low amounts of nicotine for a couple years now - .25 per 100ml or less - while in college studying computer science and I have definitely noticed it acting as a nootropic aid when I study and take tests. I have a 4.0 and am about to graduate this coming summer. I am not addicted to it and I experience zero negative side effects from cessation. *Edit: There is extensive history of schizophrenia and bipolar disease on my moms side of my family.*

Started Pipe smoking, I find it as long as you don't abuse (if you get carried away you'll be punished with a headache) it's pretty good. I usually smoke two bowls while reading a book with some water on the side before taking a shower in the morning. The amount of Nicotine I'm cosuming is about 2-3mg so it's nowhere near that of one stick of cigarettes of 8-12mg or continous vape smoking. Also the risk are near to that of a nonesmoker as you don't inhale it to the lungs and you're encouraged not to smoke it to hot but rather control the temperature through practice

Other than nicotine having a calming effect (started smoking at least a pack a 45 years ago, but switched to vaping 9 years ago), and working to reduce stress levels, I found unequivocally that it also definitely helps with my chronic back pain due to MVA many decades ago, and I can postpone going for the prescription pain medications and sometimes don't need them at all when I vape to control the pain. However, downside, I have tried quitting altogether and have discovered I am highly addicted... at least there is an upside to my addiction.

Never been addicted, but used it on and off. I find it tremendously beneficial. With nicotine I feel more focussed and at ease, and the dopamine rush is appreciated in these stressful times we are living in. I prefer Swedish nicotine pouches such as Skruf. I've never understood the why nicotine is said to be the most addictive drug in the world, I've never been able to form an addiction to it. I miss it when I don't have it, sure, but I can manage just fine. It's a great nootropic and to be honest I prefer it over alcohol and caffeine.

I love coffee, don't smoke too much because I like to relax when I have cigars. I might try the nicotine supplement. I have ocd, and as I've gotten older, I understand it more, but at times it still gets very difficult. I don't get the addiction stuff much either. I've smoked weed, cigarettes, drink liquor etc but I've noticed when I overdid it, or used it emotionally, and I cut it out. I love caffeine though, the best way is black. Such a clean fuel, like pure gasoline lol. As far as nicotine, I choose cigars because it's just natural leaf

@@creeplife2802 We have the highest tobacco taxes in the world, over $1300 a kg I think now. It sucks. Can try importing and sometimes they get through tax free, but if they get picked up a box ends up costing a fortune. I also take my coffee black, every morning. Caffeine and nicotine are the only drugs I truly love, they help to ease my depression and anxiety and help me to focus. But I have no trouble going without if i have to. I haven’t used any nicotine for over 3 months now, just don’t want to spend the money at the moment. But I will get more eventually, no doubt about that.

@Big Chief what I started doing, since I have ocd, I get this very high anxiety, I do these stupid rituals/ habits to try and ease it. So, it ends up raising my blood pressure, and high blood pressure is linked to so much bullshit. I've learned there's something called vascular dementia, essentially I think I've been making myself crazy. What I've started taking is l-citrulline. Not only does it boost the blood flow, but it decreases all that tension in my head. I also feel more fluid in a way. Just think it might help you as well. If anything it'll keep your blood pressure down so there's that

Regarding the studies done with smokers, the thing is, tobacco has more in it than just nicotine, for example solanesol. Who knows what else. So we can't assume it's only the nicotine that's the beneficial compound. I'm not telling anybody to smoke but that's the traditional tasty way I enjoy it. I think it's fine to smoke a little here and there, that it's more about the overall balance of things in life.

I have ADHD and autism. Nicotine has been an incredible help to me. I’ve been smoking a pipe then cigarettes then a vape to quit cigs. My doctor told me vapes are worse for you and it really started to run my life so I went back to cigarettes. I’ve been wanting to quit tobacco for a long time because of a history of lung cancer from smoking in my family, but nicotine has been so beneficial for my brain health that I’ve been conflicted about quitting. Just to leave some food for thought: Most of the data we have on the health effects of tobacco come from addicts who smoke conventional cigarettes, which contain additives not present in the natural product, and which inevitably undergo chemical reactions as a result of combustion during the smoking itself. We have a lot less data on tobacco use as practiced by the American natives since long before Europeans came to the New World: smoking (usually not inhaling) tobacco leaf that was cured _only_ and nothing else, if even cured at all. Not to mention the cultivation methods, genetics, and the prevalence of relatives of tobacco (nicotiana tabacum) such as nicotiana rustica.

Well, as a smoker ... I'm trying to shift to e-cigarettes now. But anecdotally, I like cigarettes when having bowel movements. And over my career, I thought that nicotine stimulated my ability to do problem solving as well. Smoking is definitely a bad habit, but it is illuminating to hear about the benefits of nicotine as a separate issue. Thanks for the video.

The NICOTINE PATCH is being studied for the prevention and even improvements in Alzheimer’s patients. I use a patch because I’m 74 years old and I wish now to prevent this, but I also want to improve Long Covid symptoms that have persisted for over two years. I was not a smoker. The patch must be started gradually over some months. This study is out of Vanderbilt University. Also you mentioned addiction. Nicotine by itself is not addicting, but I am doing so well on it that I would be hard pressed to quit the patch.

*edit to include nicotine gum/lozenges since people do not believe I was addicted to NICOTINE instead of vapes or cigarettes* I have just broken a horrible addiction to nicotine, cigarettes for 15 years, vapes, nicotine lozenges & nicotine gum for the last few years. After being in treatment for an addiction to opiates and having 3 months off of those. I have always "needed" tons of nicotine, 2 packs a day type person. As an ADHD person, I have noticed nothing but improvements in my anxiety and energy levels since quitting. Perhaps I'm an outlier, but I would not risk going back for any benefits. The only way I'm going back to either of those substances would be relapse due to cravings and I'm working VERY hard to make sure that never happens.

@@Amy_Watson I hate to tell you, I easily put down cigarettes for nicotine vapes and then easily put down vapes for nicotine lozenges and would need to suck on 5mg lozenges several times throughout the day, every day, to the point I was going through tubes of them in 2 or 3 days that were meant to last 2 weeks. When I stopped the lozenges, I started to withdrawal and was mad, agitated, irritable and anxious, even depressed. Just like when quitting cigs. If I made it a day or and put a lozenge in, I would feel an extremely pleasurable high/dizziness from the nicotine and immediately feel good again. I WAS addicted to nicotine. I would know, I was there.

The like button clicked. I'm using nicotine sprey and it helped me a lot. My sleep I so much better. I'm able to stay asleep for the entire night. Five years was struggling with little to none sleep. My neck spasms after stress events was nightmare. Now it's almost gone. I'm handling stress way better. My ears ringing is much better(I believe it is the better sleep the reason) My breathing is deeper e slower. I can breathe 1-2 times per minute easily. The only issue is the nausea and my stomach gets very upset some times. Still adjusting to the dose. My sprey is 1mg.

Thank you so much for this video - it has been incredibly helpful. I have tried quitting smoking several times in my life, including staying off sigarettes for several years. The worst part for me was NOT the cravings or mental addiction - it was more that my body did not work as it used to. As my lungcapacity increased, my cronic constipation set it, and my ability to focus got reduced. It got so bad, and I got so sick my doctor was worried about colon cancer due to all the severe sympthoms. Luckily all the tests came out negative. I tried all sorts of ways and diets to combat my lack of bowel movement to no avail. SO - I was back to smoking.... this was 10 yeras ago. However I really do want to quit smoking - due to all its other really bad health effects. I had written a list of all the benefits og quitting, but also the lists of what was bad for me about quitting. This video gave me a deeper undertstanding og the link between nicotine and the body, and it fit my case to the tea. Armed with this knowledge, I am now much more optimistic about quitting smoking, as I have been pointed to a possible stratgy for avoiding the negative effects of quitting smoking. HURRAY!! :-)

I struggled with alcohol use disorder for a long time and being sober now. The effects of brain fog and memory are frustrating. I started using zyn a few times a week and it really helps with cravings and I think it will help with the brain fog too. There are so many negative videos on nicotine and addiction but in moderation it’s great. It subdues cravings and the day after drinking there’s a lingering depressive effect that the nicotine clears up.

Also intentions with tobacco/nicotine goes a long way. It's really medicinal and therapeutic when moving with that approach. It's a painkiller/reliever - helps with digestion , soothing the stomach for a good bowel movement. It also helps grounds and balances heightened emotions. If you have constipation issues, do this: make a smoothie every day as your first meal of the, and add 2 teaspoon nigella seeds to your smoothie, it does absolutely wonder for your bowel movement! I do this every day and it feels very naturally as well.

Never having smoked I started vaping unflavored nicotine for its supposed health benefits. What I found is that vaping is incredibly addictive and it seems to affect my lungs. Now I just put a few drops of vape juice under my tongue before a workout and the effects are noticeable. I can superset with high intensity and minimal rest for about an hour until I suddenly the wall, which indicates the end of the workout.

I've been long distance backpacking the past 3 summers. and this last summer I decided to experiment with nicotine. I foolishly started with a 6 mg Zyn and almost browned myself, the stuff's no joke. I found the come down to be not worth the high though, maybe I need less of a dose. Even 3mg was too much for me. Definitely a good hit of dopamine there.

That dose is too much and as you mentioned the low down following the high i.e. drowsiness, nausea is unpleasant. I think microdosing perhaps 1mg , is the way to go to get a nice initial dopamine hit followed by a prolonged and sustained level of focus and stimulation for optimal benefit.

I was addicted to cigarettes 25 years ago and I found it very difficult to stop. I've recently started experimenting with snus nicotine pouches for the benefits. I am careful not to take a pouch everyday but after a only a few weeks the pouches are now never far from my thoughts. It's so addictive. I'm determined not to need them, I don't want to be a slave to nicotine.

i would start off small, slow and low doses... I heard about nicotine for protection from the bioweapon and one time I chewed a whole piece of the gum and it made me feel terrible as I think a lot of toxins were mobilized. Now I just bite off a quarter piece and mix it with a couple pieces of healthier gum .. and I feel no difference which is a good sign.

I struggled with adhd when I was a kid. On and off meds and couldn’t focus or sit still in class. When I started smoking at 21 most of my adhd symptoms disappeared but my body was a wreck after a few years from the cigarettes. 6 years ago I switched to vaping. Now I play hockey 3 times a week, do intense cardio 3 times a week, eat really well, practice yoga and meditation every day, lift weights and I’ve never felt better. I’m about to sell my company too and I’m convinced that the nicotine has treated my adhd that I had when I was a kid. Just had to find a way to use it without harming my body too much. I know a lot of people think vaping is bad, and I’m sure it is. But i don’t feel like a smoker anymore. My circulation is good. My lungs are clear and my breathing is normal. I’m hyper aware of my feelings/body sensations so if something isn’t good for me I can feel it loud and clear.

Yep indeed helps with and eases anyone with some kind of IBS or digestive disorder. Especially constipation and little bit of bloating. Main reason outside of its calming and uplifting effects. Though the real uplifting effects is when I can get a good bowel movement going, therefore I don't feel as sluggish. It doesn't matter what I may eat at times . . That gassy bloated constipated feeling sucks. So yeah it's best to be mindful of what source for your nicotine consumption that you may want/need to use.

I have been reading the book Niacin the real story. It was original called nicotine acid. High doses of niacin have shown improvement in mental illness including schizophrenia and depression. Also Parkinson. What I'm not sure is how Niacin is linked to Nicotin. Are they the same? It's very interesting to me all the benefits.

My mom was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's. It is interesting that the constipation, gut, and IBS symtoms didn't seem to be prominent in the beginning but now a couple decades after her diagnosis they are a major problem. It seems like these problems were always there but she wasn't aware of them. In my reading of the research the pathogenisis of Parkinson's mainly involves metabolic dysfunction, specifically oxidative stress not being addressed (damage caused by excess free radicals, which themselves are produced as a natural result of oxidative phosphorylation), but the recent work has been finding more links to gut health.

There's some studies that show that magnesium bisglycinate and taurate crosses de BBB in humans also. If I find them in my PC, I'll post here

Yeeeeah, I'd rather I never again be able concentrate than entering the nicotine withdrawal cycle again. Anyway, my peaks of concentration during my 20 year addiction's lifecycle were lower than my troughs since, cause I don't get distracted thinking when my next cigarette will come.
