Let's work with an example: PRODUCT BEING BUILT - Website for hotel bookings UX PROCEDURE - 5 Steps - Empathize, Design, Iterate, Prototype, Test - EDIPT EMPATHIZE Read the product brief. Is your client wanting you to focus on domestic or international bookings? What would be the income of your user? What is the demographic (age range) that would use your site? Are visas a consideration and if so identify the primary audience who are frequent travelers and would be able to obtain visas. First Step - USER INTERVIEWS Write down 10 -25 open questions. While writing these evaluate how the responses would effect any design decisions you need to make. Also yes and no answers don't help. Those belong in a survey and you can run one of those prior to user interviews if you are having a problem in coming up with a hypothetical persona. 1. Do you travel for business or pleasure and how many times a year on average? 2. Do you travel with family or alone and what are the factors that influence your decision on choosing a hotel? 3. How do you currently book hotels and why do you prefer this? 4. Are you satisfied with the way things are or would you like things to work differently, if so could you please elaborate? You are asking these questions so that you can design a relevant product. Now the above 3 questions will help you identify a user who travels X times for sure (expected sales). Qs. 2 will help you identify the individual needs of the family so that you can write accurate content when pitching / selling hotels on your website and also in writing SEO, Qs.3 will give you info on what your competition is doing to draw customers and Qs 4 will tell you what you need to do. The above will give you a USER PERSONA - u need to add more questions depending on your project brief. Second Step - RESEARCH DIRECT COMPETITION AND INDIRECT COMPETITION Perform a competitive analysis. List the claims and offers on their websites and read customer reviews to see where they fail. Compare this to your users needs. What can you do to make the user experience better? This is some of empathizing - let me know if you want me to make detailed videos for you in Urdu. QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS IS USELESS, DON'T BOTHER WITH IT. SURVEYS ARE FORWARDED TO RELEVANT USERS. ESTABLISH A DEMOGRAPHIC SURVEY THE USER AND IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE NOT WITH THE CORRECT DEMOGRAPHIC THEN RESTART - DONT INTERVIEW AGE 25 - 100. THEY WILL HAVE DIFFERENT REQUIREMENTS AND REACTIONS AND LOYALTY. GENERATION X, Y, Z AND BOOMERS - WHICH SHOULD YOU BE TALKING TO?
