About the guy how was training for the stress; I usually build a "Gymnasium" and appoint a good with language or empathic dwarf as "P.E. teacher" of sorts, the guys who want military training and other needs related go to the gymnasium squad to train for a while, I'm pretty sure it works for wanting to learn something, not sure about excitement or fight.

My God man I had to tell somebody, Had what I thought was a small group of merman to dispose of in the cavern layer. They had giant worm creatures with them, purple with big mouth, not a forbidden beast skin, but an actual worm sprite.. anyway, those damn things can break down a locked and forbidden door. I got a notification that one of my masterpieces was destroyed and sure enough it was the creature breaking my door and gaining access to my main stronghold.

How many years do you have to play to get, like, big sieges? I only get sieged by a handful of goblins 6-7 at a time, even in fortresses that have been around for like 4-5 years.

If it's of any help; I usually bring a dwarf in the embark with decent combat skills and teacher/leader and then open a squad from the start. Then pay attention to the immigrants, any dwarf with proper attributes (Check the wiki for that) or with personal traits that make the dwarf prone to violence go to the open squad, the moment I have 3 or 4 dwarfs in the squad the training starts, when that squad is done, I open the next one and so on.

@@apone2820 If you mean what I bring in the embark, 5 iron producing ore, forged into 10 spears or warhammers and 10 shields, I wait a year usually to forge iron or copper armor for the first squad, finding a vein or trading for more ore, whatever happens first. I never bring produced goods in my embarks, it's not worth it imho. Edit: I usually play in sparse mineral worlds and up to wilderness for context.

You can talk to hostile NPCs but they will mostly ignore you or tell you to either yield or prepare to die. In the necromancers case you should not approach a tower unless you are an undead (vampire or necromancer) because the necromancer’s pawns (other necromancers and zombies) will attack you on sight. If you are already an undead the dumb zombies will not attack you but I think the necromancers will (I do not know much about them). If you want you can try becoming a vampire and silently kill everyone until the tower is yours.
