The trade vs SSF discussion will forever remind me of a literal 10 year old post, saying that scarcity + high player count + trade enabled is how you get vanilla Diablo 3 with its auction house only endgame. If you can't find or craft your own non-mirror, but close to best in slot gear, then your entire endgame is the trade site and it sucks.

@SpocksBro10 сағат бұрын
I think trade and SSF should be separated much like HC, but SSF should have their drop rates tuned for solo play. One could satisfy both camps without much effort by just doing that. Sharing of stashes etc. with trade league and any trading interactions would of course not be allowed. The two will always be in conflict as long as the drop rates are tuned for a trade league where they have to be lower in order to prevent everyone from being maxed out after a week. SSF players are the minority in this case so GGG probably just never found enough reason to bother making that distinction. I for one would welcome such a change.

I've felt like PoE 2 wants to make fights more of a slugfest, but without giving you as much room to make mistakes. Defenses are heavily tuned down while mobs rush you into corners if you aren't constantly thinking about your next move. The methodical nature of the game is a good thing, but being put on the defensive constantly feels like a chore. This is making people focus down damage to smash the game instead. If they want to slow the game down they need to make defenses feel better, period. My arms would be wide open to damage nerfs across the board if they make defenses actually mean something.
@RomDog-264810 сағат бұрын
How would that make it fun and engaging though? All you'd be doing is pumping a stat to make you tankier then. The game is fundamentally flawed, because killing mobs and bosses is not about skill, it's about stat stacking until you are one shotting everything. If they want the game to be methodical they NEED to create enemies and systems that force the player to play that way. If all an enemy does is rush you and basic attacks all the way up until late game, there is something wrong with the game design. To;dr Nerf player stats, but make enemies more engaging to fight.

I think I'd add to what was stated here that visual clarity is even more important in this game than in POE1. With so many one shot abilities coming at you, the telegraphing just isn't clear enough when you have flames and the like all over the screen. I'm already not a fan of the dodge roll, feeling that the RPG part should take priority over the "action" part, but it's even worse when combat seems to be centered around it and a lot of times you can't even see big hits coming. I feel like we were told that that kind of stuff would be clearly telegraphed, but it just isn't coming across well enough most of the time. Hopefully this gets adjusted if dodge roll stays front and center for the future.
@willwallace43739 сағат бұрын
I would say most of the bosses I have faced do have pretty well telegraphed attacks, or at least some-what obvious tells after 1/2 attempts of the boss. But you are correct, when you are playing a class with lots of AOE FX (sorc flame wall / spark etc.) then it becomes much more difficult to see whats going on
@ValuelessPond226 сағат бұрын
I absolutely love the combat in poe2 personally. The count’s boss fight at the end of act 1 is so sick to play through, and it highlighted a thing that poe2 does a lot, audio cues for moves. In my experience most if not all big damage moves from rare and unique bosses have an audio cue as well as visual. I totally agree with you though that this game feels heavy handed on the action, and way less so on the rpg element
@RMartian763 сағат бұрын
Visual clarity is nightmarish. If you try playing in a group it's basically impossible to know what the hell is going on. I just stare at my health, dodge roll around, and go through my rotation. It's so boring. The dodge roll and "Souls-like" methodical combat is why I was hyped for PoE 2. But it quickly devolves into the same sh*tstorm of visual FX and brainless combat as most every other ARPG.
@GuerillaBunnyСағат бұрын
And it's not only that visual noise is covering up the telegraphs, but that trash mobs don't telegraph their attacks in a meaningful fashion. Like there's a 0.2 second arm twitch, but that's like 8 pixels, and many of the enemies either move too fast or blend into the textures behind them that it's sometimes almost impossible to see even without the noise. Also, most rare enemies don't stand out from the trash. And some rare abilities (like mana drain) are just absolute bullshit.

One of the biggest issues currently imo is the crazy disparity between the power on gear and the power on the skill tree. I played through the campaign twice, first time on Ranger/Deadeye with a Bow using LA + Rods and the second time on a Monk/Invoker with Ice Strike + Bell. With my Ranger taking as much damage on the tree as i could find was as close to a miserable experience as one could get because i could not get any decent bows to save my life. It took forever to kill bosses and i was hardstruck 3 times, once at the end of Act 2, once at Viper in Act 3, and once at the end of Act 3 Cruel. I literally had to farm for multiple hours for upgrades on my Ranger. It took me over 30 hours to clear the campaign because of how horrible drops were and i didnt want trade to ruin my first time perception of how the game felt. Fast foward to my monk. Holy crap a second character with even just half decent rares absolutely obliterates the campaign while taking mostly defensive nodes. I had 86 Exalts saved up from my Ranger endgame farming after switching to crossbow and reaching T13's. I optimized literally nothing on my monks gear and more than half of my skill points went into Eva/ES nodes. I didnt trade for a single piece, all I did was just spam exalt slam gear which rolled half decently from the shop or as a drop. From Act 1 all the way to endgame, i burned through about 65 Exalts. My monk was deleting Act bosses in about 30 seconds up until the end of Act 3. After Act 3, without touching my gear except a decent weapon upgrade going from level 20 to level 48, was deleting every boss in around 15 seconds. They put waaaaaaaaaaaay to much power on gear compared to what you get from the skill tree. Its actually stupid just how much power progression is locked behind having just a half decent rolled rare in the campaign. They really need to adjust the power budget during the campaign because theres such an overwhelmingly massive difference in experience between someone who gets lucky with gear drops and someone who gets fairly unlucky.

The issue isn't the dodge roll itself; the real problem is that there are two types of games in one. The dodge roll works well in the campaign because the game is slow-paced and focuses on boss fights. Character scaling is gradual, so there's not enough damage to instantly delete these bosses, making the fights prolonged and enjoyable. However, once in maps, the dodge roll loses its purpose since our character has scaled to a point where we're essentially playing PoE 1 again-melting bosses and mobs. What’s the point of the dodge roll, then? It feels like GGG doesn’t know what direction to take with the game-whether to make it slow and precise or stick to the chaotic vision of PoE 1.

I've noticed KB/M either can't change direction mid roll or it's very difficult for them to do so. WASD input is too linear and Mouse takes too much movement. Being able to easily change dodge direction mid roll or just rapidly change direction between movement and dodge direction with left stick really does make dodge roll feel amazing. My main complaint is that dodge speed/distance is tied to movement speed, heavy-armour (str stack) has the largest move speed penalty, and ranger/deadeye has so much more movespeed than warrior. It's just a little unfair in that regard, and I think warrior needs a buff to dodges.

In the end game it’s meh but it definitely needs work. I just do maps with orbs of transmutation, orb of augmentation and scrolls of wisdom on me and I literally craft on every good base item/magic item i get to drop during a map. So for example I got a base expert energy shield helmet got cold res then lightening res then got 90% energy shield and then I got 100 max life then got intelligence then after I qualities it and put a socket on it I corrupted it and rolled +29 spirit from the corruption. I turned a junk normal item into a 7 divine helmet and it was 100% RNG which is why it’s a meh system. If you do what I’ll do you’ll eventually get lucky I’ve gotten multiple divine valued items from doing this. Also make sure you spend some of your gold gambling rings from Ava. I gambled 500k worth of gold and got probably 3 divines worth of good rings. Again it’s RNG but definitely worth doing
@lordofchaosinc.26110 сағат бұрын
Exactly it's linear and RNG bar some ultrarare crafting items in endgame. And in campaign I got dozens of items waiting for a regal that never comes... In PoE 1 the item was bricked when you hit a bad corruption else yo could craft it. Here it's usually bricked when the first augment rolls some light radius. This is similar to PoE1 rare items found on the ground which are 99% dropped useless in the late game because of the tight RNG. Best upgrades came from vendors and that's bad design.
@GuerillaBunny8 сағат бұрын
I've leveled 3 characters through the campaign now, and it's been a rollercoaster, even within a single character. To begin, scaling feels pretty bad, because I never really know how much defenses I need. At one moment, I'm just cruising, and suddenly I'm getting one-shot or stunlocked to death. It's jarring. Zoning has a similar effect; cruising, move to another zone, and it's one-shot after one-shot by trivial trash. The part about dodge rolling is actually interesting. I feel like I end up spamming it, because I don't know when I'm safe. At the end of the day, my biggest problem with the game is that while it promises endless opportunities for experimentation, failed experiments have such a steep cost (in gold, experience, map progression, time, etc) that I just don't want to. And it looks like whatever "soulslike" design they wanted for the game is not fun for anyone else either, because they'd just rather bypass the challenges with one-shot builds. And for a game that puts such a big emphasis on avoiding enemy attacks, it really puts some extra challenges on it by not highlighting all rare enemies, having almost invisible telegraphs for lethal attacks, or generating so much visual noise that it's impossible to see anything. The characters I played are not meta in any sense, because I go for the theme and aesthetic. And none of them just feel good, I think partly because much like with enemies, the biggest damage doesn't come from where it feels like it should, ie. the spells with the chunkiest visual effects and sounds. Pathfinder and Frost Sorc have decent damage, but the playstyles are just clunky and don't really feel satisfying. Chaos dot Witch has a fun playstyle, but the damage is underwhelming, and the talent tree requires a lot of beelining, because the Chaos damage clusters are scattered all over the place. And while ascendancies would fix the issue, the ones we have seem to have tedious gimmicks, and not fitting with the theme. To me it's just kind of ironic that while the developer of its spiritual predecessor moved away from tedious mechanics like resistances, PoE2 feels like a stale blast from the past to me in that regard. PS. Don't think of this just as a "game too hard" whining. I like a challenge. What I do not like is a learning experience that penalizes for failure. I just don't want to do Maps, because I have no idea what's going to be irreversibly gone if I die. Which I will (because I have). So I'm just not going to bother. So I have no reason to play, since the endgame feels dissatisfying.

Rarity, crafting…Last Epoch has an elegant solution, not perfect, but the best I have seen in ARPGs. There is no rarity affix in the game, but through the campaign you choose to be in a faction = merchant or prophecy. Joining one or the other alternates the possibility of trading and drops bringing trade and SSF much closer. I can imagine having a side quest in act 5 or 6 where the player could choose to have more loot or to trade. Each would have its own passive tree where you could decide what you want to focus on. That game did a lot of new stuff in interesting ways and the only thing really holding it back is a quantity of content. With GGG working for 6~ years on PoE 2 I was expecting something on that level at the _start_ of early access. And then I find that PoE 2's only real innovation is that it added WASD. That's it. Don't get me wrong, I like WASD, but I was hoping for new currency orbs. Or a complete rework of the orb system. I wanted entirely new notables on the skill tree and a removal of all the old ones. I wanted Energy shield to simply not exist. I wanted elemental ailments to be gone or be completely reworked. I wanted new mods on gear. I wanted new skills. I wanted new supports. I wanted new uniques that changed the way we played. I could go on and on. Instead I got everything that was in PoE1 from 10 years ago, but _less_ of it. No blessed orbs. No scours. No Alterations. No eldritch orbs. No chisels. No sacred orbs. No bench crafting. No harvest crafting. Sure, monk and merc have a few unique skills to their classes and that's great, but every other class felt like exact 1:1 copies of what we already had in PoE 1. Removing all of that stuff (and much more) would be totally fine if this was a new game. But it's not. It's the _same_ _game_ from 2012 and that's incredibly disappointing.

Spamming dodge roll, as opposed to timing a dodge roll, is the same as just standing there doing nothing.
@MKPwrz8 сағат бұрын
Agreed I think the difference for some is the feeling of having to roll all the time. I'm the same with souls games I don't enjoy dodge rolling but if you give me a deflect like in Sekiro and instantly I love it. The main games I like Dodging in are games like bayonetta MGSR DmC even monster hunter, when I feel like Dodging doesn't break the momentum or leads into a different moveset
@maxpowers44368 сағат бұрын
The amount of times you are required to dodge roll is why its spamming its integral to the gameplay. Not 1 meaniful dodge in 30min lmao you use it ALOT.
@johnoden59327 сағат бұрын
The thing people keep misunderstanding with dodge is you should almost never use it because stopping attacking and walking for 2 seconds is going to get you twice as far as a dodge in the same time frame people are just so focused on always attacking and refuse to stop to interact with mechanics, this is coming from someone maining warrior.
@dimitrikoger3046 сағат бұрын
@johnoden5932 dodge roll and walk speed coincide so not really the only difference is you can use SOME attacks while walking but they are actually the same speed
@johnoden59325 сағат бұрын
@dimitrikoger304 the speed of movement is the same but the recovery on roll makes it less usable in combat where walking while not attacking allows for change in position without locking you in place at all as dodge does.

They were working on the EndGame for 7 months so no wonder a lot of things are broken but... For me, the biggest problems are: - broken armor dmg mitigation, (this idea that the bigger the hit the less mitigation is good on paper but totally unnecessary and doesn't work) - weak melee class. Playing Ranger or even Monk is like playing this game on EasyMode when compared to Warrior. - broken passive tree built for ES characters only, - non-existing crafting system (what we have is a broken gambling mini-game, not a crafting system), essences should work like omens combined with ExaltedOrbs - lack of in-game action-house for items (WoW was able to do it 20 years ago because going outside the game, pinging people, waiting for the response, visiting them, being able to buy only what's online, etc is just a lame and broken system), - the game is built around reflex-checker dodge-roll without movement skills. - unclear charms mechanism without any notification or icon - one attempt is a broken mechanism especially if you are additionally punished with lost XP and all items you put to juice the map - visual clarity doesn't exist and what makes it even worse is a terrible idea with on-death AoE dmg you can't even see - your dmg in 99% comes from a weapon so you can have everything else (tree, skills, gear) perfect and you will do nothing without a really good weapon if you are out of luck. - trials are also terribly made

45:00 I don’t think dodge roll has any s in PoE2, it only accelerates the first part of the roll and slows at the get up part. To anyone who was “dodge rolled” IRL, it seems quite right. Dodge rolling covers the same distance as running in the same amount time, but covers it faster on the first part of the movement (rolling) and slower on the second (getting up). Dodge rolling also treats the projectiles as 3D objects instead of 2D, meaning that on the rolling part you effectively “duck” under the projectiles (there is no colision effect), that’s why you can also duck under bosses arms when they swing. That’s another reason why the warrior’s leap felt bugged to me, because if I can roll under projectiles, I should be able to jump over them, but instead even in the air I get hit (in fact the collision effect is triggered hitting “nothing” under you character while the exiled is in the air).

My problem with the dodge roll, I find that in some boss fights, all I do IS roll. The hectic fights are just rolling rolling rolling *instacast ability* roll roll roll and repeat. There's a real danger that dependence on dodge rolling will lead to lazy boss design where every boss is full of one-shots and flurry attacks. Telegraphing is essential for dodge rolls to work, and often I find there are none. This coming from someone who's played and beated DS1 2 3, Elden Ring, Wukong, and other Souls like games.

Biggest problem i have with mixing ARPG with a soulslike is that they took the worst parts of both. Getting staggered by enemy attacks made sense in a Soulslike because you will be fighting 1 single mob like 99% of the times. It has no logic to be in this game where pretty much every mob (which is not undead or ranged) moves quicker than you, can surround you in half a sec, and then staggerlock your character to death if you don't react fast enough. You also CANNOT dodge if you are surrounded by enough enemies, adding fuel to this problem. Secondarily getting frozen in this game is insta death, managing resistances with so many item suffixes is extremely challenging, and to be hones, they should've included "leggings" like an extra item slot, it seems you are underpowered unless you reach like lvl 90+ where you have a somewhat fully formed build -> Devs that have no life thought it was a funny idea to include on the tower maps, both the ghosts that have best tracking on earth for their freezing AOE carpet attack (and they also turn invisible and cannot be damaged, they will also turn invisible while you cc them, i've frozen many and they disappeared before my comet hit and appeared outta nowhere again) on the same map with these fookers, which is basically very narrow hexagonal rooms with extremely narrow bridges in between, with all of that they also added the Aztec frost mages that spam eye of winter (aka D2 frost orb) As someone who excells in both ARPGs and Soulslikes for pretty much my entire gaming life, i think Devs big issues ahead, they need to revisit some fundamental aspects of the game, best one would be, as i said, remove stagger from this game COMPLETELY, i see no reason on gods green earth why i should be hit 1-2 times by an enemy, my spell animation is interrupted and i also lose the spell's cooldown :)) in a game where i die once, lose a map, and besides the map and the exp lost, the map also loses all it's modifiers like the boss battle, the +1 to monster level and so on. To enclose, i think the game overall is too punishing (especially for non streamers or non no life ARPG players) it has too many things that benefit the enemies and too little things that benefit or help the player, and these complaints are coming from a Frost Sorceress, i cry every day for the torture that melee players feel in this game, i can't even imagine touching this flaming garbage as a melee. P.S. if you ask me to watch a build video, then the devs are failing, not the player, again, these top tier builds are thought out and calculated by players that have been doing this pretty much their whole existence, it's expected they find a way to deal with endgame, but how can you expect a normal guy with a job to both play this game and reach endgame (which is by itself a big time investment) to also ask them to watch videos :) like nah man. Did i mention your dodge doesn't provide s in this game? it does not :P
@lenni-hazels10 сағат бұрын
I agree with many of your points but dodge roll definitely provides s in PoE 2. Also there is the "+ stun threshold" stat that helps immensly with the stagger. There are some enemy attacks that always hit though. I will say the warrior/mace experience is BAAAD in early game. It's very difficult compared to all the other classes/weapons.
@klefthoofrobert7879 сағат бұрын
@@lenni-hazels It does not provide s, you can low ground ranged attacks, but for melee you don't have s, you confuse s with just gaining enough distance from the enemy to miss it. If you get surrounded by melee monsters and cannot dodge away, you can time your dodge how you want, they will land and one shot you :) -> i've died like this many times on maps so i'm quite sure it does not have s, but data miners will confirm this soon hopefully.

I think the problem with defenses come from trying to enable a certain streamlined difficulty throughout the game by limiting movement and using the dodge. The problem with this though is that they've only half-assed it by making the dodge only good in a handfull of scenarios and still heavily relying on the classical system of trying to find more EHP through items. This doesnt work with the lack of mobility and limited defense options for a good amount of characters where the game becomes either nearly impossible or the player becomes near immortal and you dont have to engage tactically with the enemies at all. I think the solution to this would be to further incentivise the dodgeroll by making it a stronger defensive tool combined with flattening the damage the player receives so that building for decent defenses is easier and allows one to take a reasonable amount of hits from both normal enemies and bosses and then balancing around having to dodge more and pulling groups of enemies depending on how far above the baseline you are, either in terms of damage/area cc or defenses.
@Akrymir9 сағат бұрын
The concept of the dodge roll is just a catchall. It's not reasonable to expect dev teams to create different dodge animations for every permutation and combination of attacks that can occur, then dynamically trigger the correct animation for a given scenario in order for it to line up visually. So, instead of wasting a mountain of dev time and effort on all that we just have a dodge roll with i-frames. This is honestly an extremely weird thing to have an issue with and highlights a lack of understanding of fundamental concepts.
@Soundwave29953 минут бұрын
Imo he’s wrong about the dodge roll. If you chain dodge it doesn’t do much but barely give distance but if you time the dodge at the right time the attack won’t track you and you can get a couple hits in. Paired with temp chains you really notice it. Devs stated there is no immunity frames in dodge roll. Regardless it’s not meant to be chained repeatedly. Taking the key passive that lets you dodge all hits is huge for dodging.

In elden ring bosses are designed to roll catch u, in MH bosses pressure u when they r enraged. Poe2 bosses relies on mobs, body blocking, & one shots to be threatening, once u can deal with the mobs bosses becomes less threatenin

It's weird that Kripp says active block works well and doge doesn't, when they cover such a similar function mechanically. Being able to modify the dodge more IS a good idea though, that I've thought of. At the moment I think the only two things that interact with it are socketing Blink and Lingering Illusion.

I had a visceral reaction to "I hate souls games". So here's some engagement I guess. I would highly recommend giving them another shot, of course they are not for everyone, but souls is an incredibly important series for understanding Action rpgs and the video games industry as a whole. As a side note - dodging in souls games is very different from poe. The way you move in souls is all but locked in from the start of the game - no movement speed buffs, no blink (except something like bloodhounds step in elden ring), and the majority of players are expected to damage bosses in melee combat. Basically, there are far fewer mobility options, and exactly 3 possible roll timings (lets ignore ds2), which allows the devs to refine the exact feeling and flow of combat, and make it feel absolutely wonderful. PoE2 on the other hand... has nearly uncountable combinations, it is impossible to test thoroughly, and so a mechanic like dodge will always be broken in some respect (either positively or negatively) Edit: Souls also balances heavily around stamina. Basically any combat action (including running and dodging) requires stamina - which necessitates you weaving some 'rest' and allows monsters and bosses to recover and have a chance to attack you as well. Souls games are basically rhythm games. Edit2: Immunity frames in souls games give complete immunity. PoE dodge rolling is not completely immune, and so inherently weaker. Edit3: I also like the beetles surrounding me! (leveled 2 warriors to 85) Skill issue in my opinion.
