Isolation is so unbelievably amazing that really the only major criticism I see levied at it is how long it is- which is honestly perfectly fair, it is a little stretched. Definitely a baseline for how I think Alien should be handled.
@ASSLEVANIAАй бұрын
I was so entrenched in the atmosphere that didn’t bother me as much. My two criticisms are pretty minor; I wish the alien moved vertically more, crawling on walls etc. and the other being the lack of acid blood damage to the player or hull. It would be really cool to see that actually implemented in a game as permanent damage to the environment, but I guess that would be a nightmare to program.
@joelociraptorgaming80Ай бұрын
Isolation is still one of my fav horror games to date. I replay it every October and the AI makes this game fresh every time, never knowing when the alien will show up. I've noticed how boring horror games can be when you know the scares are coming: ie. I love Dead Space Remake and last night I started it for the spooky season, and was immediately taken out of the horror of it. Knowing exactly when all the scares are coming (as I played the original game like 10-15 times) kind of kills the horror and turns it into more of an action game.
@x-ScaryBerry-xАй бұрын
@@joelociraptorgaming80You could say the same about thing about several of the enemy placements in the OG games, too. And they’re especially important to memorize if you’re doing a Hardcore run in Dead Space 2. The intensity director of the Dead Space Remake is supposed to randomize encounters to a degree. It must be slacking on your current run. That being said, even knowing when enemies are going to show up, I still manage to get spooked no matter which Dead Space game I play.
@joelociraptorgaming80Ай бұрын
@@x-ScaryBerry-x I was thinking the same thing about the intensity director for DS Remake. But I still know exactly when a vent will drop out a necromorph and exactly when I'm going to get ambushed from the front and back. I do find the spooky thing about DSR is the speed of the necromorphs when they break into a sprint. Also, the sheer darkness of the ship combined with the ambient noises is fantastic. I still play this game every October as part of my horror playlist.

It's not a miracle cure but Colonial Marines is worth a try with TemplarGFX's ACM Overhaul mod. That modified typo line of code DOES make a difference, before the aliens couldn't recognise all the environmental markers placed all around for them to use and just made a beeline for you to easily kill. After they run and hide for an ambush, climb the walls, leap around and seem to come at you from different angles. You probably can't melee them without taking damage either. The friendly AI is made a bit more capable depending on difficulty too.

The entire xeno nest and generator sequence is fantastically creepy, and venturing outside the station in the big clunky space suit while everything is falling apart is a great bit as well.

As a former 1990 ALIENS Arcade game player who used to finish the game with a single quarter I must say you got it all wrong. The game is actually very easy if you learn the enemy patterns, the proper weapons to use and advance SLOWLY. The flamethrower is the BEST weapon of the whole game. You should have it in the elevator level since the smartgun and the rockets damage the lift cables. There are three missiles in top of the APC that can be used by pressing the crouch-shot button. Those are useful when there are many enemies in front. And the Queen can be defeated without destroying her if you damage her enough so she starts changing colors from blue to purple. As soon as the airlock door opens you can lift her using the Powerloader and tapping quickly the crouch-shot button until you move her into the airlock and throw her into space.

If I could offer a game to potentially play, it would be "Zombie Army Trilogy." (ZAT) It was originally released for PC under the name, "Natzi Zombie Army." The game was a spin off of the Sniper Elite game series, which is all about stealth. The Devs (Rebellion) decided to make a spin off that featured zombies. Its essentially what Undead Nightmare was for Red Dead Redemption. It was successful, so they did a sequel. When they made the 3rd game, they repackaged it as a Trilogy and changed the name. The game (ZAT) essentially plays like a 3rd Person Left 4 Dead, but set in WW2. And Rebellion, while a small studio, has been around for a long time & are veterans. They are based in the UK. Their games get so little acknowledgement that I feel like giving them a shout out. And, ZAT is a good game, if you like 3rd person shooters. There is also a Zombie Army 4.

I remember looking forward to Colonial Marines on the Wii U, hoping they's use the Gamepad as a motion sensor. They also said games would support multiple Gamepads, so I hoped for a co-op sequel to infestations, with each player having their own small screen while the big screen was a map to fill out, and clues like motion sensor pings and objectives and notes. I imagined cool missions, with players stuck in different sections, players holding until the others could find ways to support them... But most people don't even know the Wii U ever existed, and these games never existed... Very sad, the potential for greatness was there.
@GamerGuysReviewsАй бұрын
A friend of mine recently spoke with various devs who worked on Colonial Marines as part of an article he wrote. It was an uphill battle to put it lightly. Poor communication/mismanagement, an uncooperative game engine, and a studio (Gearbox) who couldn't make up their mind as to what Colonial Marines should be were the big reasons why Colonial Marines turned out the way it did. Hicks wasn't originally going to be the Maguffin. It was supposed to be a Weyland Yutani scientist seeking revenge against the company, but Gearbox changed it because, "Let's retcon Alien 3!" Several ideas and enemies were cut, like healing stations and an albino xenomorph that was essentially a walking tank. Ironically, the teams that worked on multiplayer and DLC didn't face as much interference.

Alien: Isolation is one of those games I could stand and stare at every little detail for hours... if it wasn't for the 10ft tall armour plated monstrosity that appears whenever it damn well pleases. That cassette punk aesthetic from the film was absolutely nailed in the game and it's something more Alien games should strive to achieve.

Thank you for that, Alien Trilogy used to terrify me as a child too... something about that music from the first level and the limited draw distance.

Great video. Got some genuine lols with the Hudson / Hicks call back joke.

IMO all those reinterpretations of Alien 3 with buzzcut Ripley with a Pulse Rifle blasting through hundreds of Xenos feels better than the actual film.

I remember hearing somewhere with Resurrection that the design philosophy was something along the lines of if the testers complained about a segment being too hard then they'd just make it harder, truly psychopath game design.

I got to play Extermination at least once in an arcade, it was pretty neat. Did remind me of playing Alien 3: The Gun as a kid. Also, my favorite part of Aliens: Infestation is learning about the Credits Music of that game, done by the band called "Holy Light of Demons" lol. It's GLORIOUS.

Only a minute in but thank you for not just following the common opinion and not just writing off alien 3. I genuinely love that film and it absolutely doesn't deserve the hate it gets

It blows my mind that the guys who made Opposing Force also made Duke Nuke Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines. That nobody got sued over what was clearly embezzlement is absolutely mindblowing.

I would argue alien 3 on game boy is the best alien 3 game of them all, its likely the first survival horror game and more story focused than the other games. With a limited storage menu you have to chose what to pick up and leave, and use medpaks in the right time etc. Also 3 lives but only as long as you have fellow prisoners alive, if they get killed, its sudden death. ITs more realistic, drones and warriors and runners exist. Clever puzzles to solve. Much more fun and new than a side scroller shoter that snes and mega drive was.

The revolution x cabinet was all over my area. Only a few of them were T2. I had no idea there was an Aliens cabinet? Aerosmith shooting cds was the good ol days.

Alien Trilogy on PS1 is my first alien game and it was really a fun eerie shooter game for kid me and friend back then, we had a blast just shrieking and blasting things in that game.

Wow man, we had such a similar childhood. My dad and I did the same thing with alien trilogy, and all of the pc games you cover.

ALIEN: Isolation is one of the few games that I own every physical copy of, even the Nintendo Switch version... I friggin LOVE that game...

Can't believe we haven't gotten a game that even comes close to alien isolation for 10 years now. Insanity.
