Technically it's kind of both? Apparently officially (I found this on the wiki page) it contains a fragment of the original Bedman, but the rest is just programming. The rest of Bedman is either dead or a miltiversal entity now, but a piece of his will still lingers

Just programmed. But Delilah can’t figure out why the program is malfunctioning. She thinks the reason the bed is malfunctioning is tied to Bedman trying to protect her from beyond the grave.

Both If you listen to his song The Circle, the people who are talking are Bedman, and when he finishes his line the bed is trying to take all the information and commands he says then after that the bed says "Copy that"

​@@turtletracks1584he's in purgatory or a state of limbo since he's both dead and alive. Which is why he asks god about heaven but there is no response. He can't go to heaven or hell and is suffering in the bed frame. He can't say anything to his sister but the only thing he can do is command the bed to protect his sister at all costs which is why in the song he always says "im here"
