She then found and lead a hunting party of lizard folk away from her parties escape route, dashing solo into the jungle, taunting the hunters into chasing her instead of pincering the whole group. After dodging their attacks and hopefully running headlong towards the beach, she burst through the underbrush of the shoreline to find her family safe. @Neko1412126 жыл бұрын
Nott wouldn't have died, though. Honestly, it was just a smart tactical move. Nott moves first, and she's the smallest - thus the easiest to carry. If the opportunity attack knocked her out, Jester would still be able to run over, grab Nott and get her out where she and Cad can immediately heal her. Nott wouldn't have died in that scenario since she moves first and thus can be saved. Had Notte gone through without taking the attack, Jester would be left with Twiggy. Jester would probably go down, Twiggy might fail on a strenght or athletics check to save her - she might have a potion that could've healed Jester, but the potion probably wouldn't get Jester high enough to survive a new hit. Basically, Nott taking the hit was the smart choice. It was a really clever move, but not one that would've cost Sam his character :3

Well, to be fair, by keeping in-character with how cowardly Caleb is by having him just "NOPE!" out of there, Liam likely believed that he'd just left his best friend's character to die....and possibly Laura's as well. That would stress out *anyone* let alone Liam who counts Sam as one of his absolute closest friends. If I were in that same position, I'm not sure I could have even made myself do the same thing. Though, granted, I tend to play characters who place more value on the lives of their friends and companions than on their own lives, so most of my characters would have been like "I will only leave here once I know the rest of you are safe, so get moving!" Especially concerning my Minotaur Barbarian/Fighter. Even against odds as badly stacked as an entire army chasing them down, if he believed it would ensure the survival of his friends, he would willingly pull a "You Shall Not Pass!" and try to fight literally an entire army *alone* just to buy his friends as much time to escape as possible. He would emphatically state that he would be "the first one into a fight, and the last one out".

Not only is this an epic sacrifice for a friend, it’s an epic tactical play. By taking the reaction hit, the only person in the room with healing spells can’t be knocked unconscious with only a tiny gnome to carry her out while trying to escape. Worse case scenario with Sam’s plan was Nott getting knocked unconscious by the reaction hit, jester healing her and carrying her out (or the other way around/ just getting out and letting Cad heal her). They were less than 15 feet from the pedestal, so even with half movement for carrying Nott, Jester would have been able to carry her out. Nott taking the hit saved both of them.

Well, I sure do like to point out small mistakes, but I do also hate people who do it in a rude manner. It is completely fine to point out mistakes as long as it is constructive and not hurtful. A lot of people don't get that though. They like to rave on whenever somebody makes a mistake, usually towards a specific person, ignoring it whenever the rest mess up, because they all seem to have an agenda against their least favorite person. That gets super annoying, real fast. I've been saying it to all that talks about this moment, their feelings are real, even if the tension is based on a misunderstanding. Let the emotions guide you, not whether they are based on accurate information. The same goes for how dangerous the dragon was in general. An easy kill if they stood and fought, but they don't know that, and it shows on their faces. That should be your focus, it certainly was mine, even with the knowledge that they could have easily escaped. Edit: I want to add that before you point out mistakes, try to check if it has already been pointed out. The further I scroll down this comment section, the more comments about the disengage action I see. There are like five in a row right below this comment on my screen, and if they'd just bothered to scroll a bit, we'd only need one. None of them are rude or hurtful, they are more curious, since they don't have the full context, so they are at least aware that they could have missed something, but it still adds to the stuff the cast has to see, and I'm pretty sure they only need to read one comment about it to get the message. Like with bowlgate. We get it, you're upset, stop posting about it. They got the message about 600 comments ago. You are entitled to your opinion, but do they really deserve the pile on?

As for matt not including the lightning damage mightve been foresight lost on him in the moment. He was just as surprised as everyone else at sams health so i dont think he was tracking their numbers at the time

I believe Jester would've made it even without Nott taking the hit. She could've disengaged with her action since touching the sphere was a bonus action. Still, this moment was one of the sweetest in the campaign so far and I can't stop rewatching it.
@MrSmsch6 жыл бұрын
Close! Nott is a rogue, which let her use the orb as a bonus action. Jester would have had to use her action to use the orb, meaning she couldn't use it to disengage. She was almost certainly dead unless the dragon wiffed 3 attacks.

@@MrSmsch Uh, there's nothing about rogues that let them use items as bonus actions.

@@HJ_Extravaganza On review I was thinking of the Thief subclass, which does get that ability. Guess OP was correct!
@Xenodude20006 жыл бұрын
@@MrSmsch It most certainly only took a bonus action to touch the orb since it's just a quick movement. Especially since Matt allows players to chug potions with bonus actions, which are way more advanced movements. Twiggy used a bonus action for the orb moments later as well.

Circumstances might have changed. Jester was on fire and Nott did that to ensure Jester gets out. It is true that they are playing a bit suboptimally (Nott didnt yse uncanny dodge for the AoP), but it's all part of the game and tension.

@@gayghostprince she would have. Disengage is an action unless you're a rogue, and it was a bonus action to touch the orb (Sam mentioned being able to shoot again as a bonus action would remove the ability to touch the orb, hence why travis was freaking out)

You know I never understood why he did not use his reaction to uncanny dodge, I guess he just wanted to leave it at 1 hp for the amazing moment.
@moistnugget1412 жыл бұрын
Tehcnically Nott has uncanny dodge, so no way he would've died there, but I just like to think that surviving with only 1 hp is way cooler
@Chrosteellium Жыл бұрын
Okay, I know this scene is incredibly hype. But did not need to take the dragons reaction? Nott could have used an action to disengage and a bonus action to leave (or the other way around since rogue), then after that Jester could have used her action to disengage and bonus action to leave. Is there something that I missed?
@addi78124 жыл бұрын
So I've watched this a few times and something still confuses me. And it may be a rule I'm not aware of, but why couldn't they both just disengage? that way they would have both been safe.
@dig86344 жыл бұрын
They all forgot they could. Deborah mentions it during this clip, but I think they all thought she just meant the bonus action dodge that rogues can do. If she did remember they could do it, she probably should have suggested it earlier, because players can forget that shit, but some special circumstances would be required before a character would forget such a basic thing. If you look at the comments under the episode, a lot of people are upset because they forgot, but I think it just makes the moment more tense. Just looking at the expressions of the players, you can feel the emotions, and it doesn't really make Sam's play any less impressive strategically. It was indeed genius to take that reaction so the healer could run safely, since nobody would be taking the disengage action regardless of whether he did it, because they weren't aware of the option.
