I love how everyone is surprised and shocked and 👀👀"wtf" when they hear the line "he hit me and it felt like a kiss" THAT'S what I love about lana she make people go like WOW???WTF with her true and rough and raw words. she writes what she feels and that's it. she's honest, she's brave, she's delicate and soooo personal
@Alicegab3003 жыл бұрын
This line is a reference to a cover done by courtney love ! I believe the original song is done by four black women in the 60s. I think the line in ultraviolence is about an introduction to drugs done by her lover and it's probably a similar meaning in the courtney love cover ! It's an amazing line with much references and it makes so much sense that ultraviolence was chosen as the title track !

YOU'RE ACTUALLY RIGHT!! Jim from ultraviolence is someone who she relates to a cult leader figure, even the name might be reference (Jim Jones from the mass suicide in the 90s). it's like someone she couldn't image living without, a toxic relationship like the cult leaders do with their girls. she has been on cults and thats it. dark stuff right here and there. loves it
@buttcheeksguy2 жыл бұрын
jim jones wanted his followers dead and they still loved him that's why she referenced jim here. she's not actually in a cult but the way she would do anything for him, feels cultish.

Gavin, I love your vídeos about Lana, and I wanted you to know that black beauty is about her former and long-term boyfriend Barrie James O'Neill who had a great relationship with her but got caught by depression and she couldn't make him happy despite the effort. California is about him too. He sings the unreleased officially song Summer wine and he's co-producing for of her songs in Blue Banisters. Love from Brazil!

“He hit me and it felt like a kiss” is the title of a famous and controversial song by the Crystals written by the great songwriting duo of Goffin and King and produced by Phil Spector. It was based on some discussions with their babysitter (Little Eva who later had a number 1 with the locomotion Carole King regrets having anything to do with the song

I love this album, some of the lyrics are so shocking but so important. I know there are different theories on who/what 'Ultraviolence' is about (a person/alchohol) but either way, I feel like she portrays that feeling of being stuck and 'blind' in a toxic relationship so so well. There are moments when she 'romanticizes' (as many in toxic relationships do- deep down they know its wrong but they are manipulated in such a way that they believe it's real love, they make excuses for the abusive behavior) and then there are moments when the reality hits home, it's such a great balance. It still upsets me that she receives criticism for this album's lyrical content, but in my opinion, all stories deserve to be told, even if it leaves a bad taste, we learn from these stories.

I think when one listens to Lana, one should see it as a novel with characters. It doesn't matter if she was or wasn't in a cult in real life. I think if you pay attention to the characters in the "chapters" you have a better chance of understanding what's going on.

Ultraviolence I think is about addiction to a drug (or a person that feels like a drug), the comfort of it and in turn inflicting violence upon ones own self. Plus as someone who's been in SEVERAL toxic abusive relationships I can tell that is exactly how it feels- when they pay attention to you at all, no matter how bad, you feel glorified, validated. And of course, the finding ways to excuse their behavior. Jim is also in all probability Jim Bean. Or the industry.
