Aaah, each time i listen to UV, i get chills because of its rockish dark music and lyrics. I remember i felt sad next Lana's works were written in other music styles, only later i realised how exceptionally beautiful this album is. UV, NFR and Ocean Blvd are my favourite works of her❤

Old Money is my all time fav song. The beginning is the melody of the Romeo and Juliette theme song (you can Search it up, Andre Rieu played it if I remember correctly). The beginning lyrics are soooo nostalgic bcz she is talking about her life before fame indeed. There is a Lana interview from 2007 for Vogue if I remember correctly where they visit her trailerpark with her blue hydrangeas :")

Ok yes, NFR is her best album, but don't skip to it!! Keep going in order! It's a must to witness her artistic journey chronologically. I think Born To Die, Ultraviolence, and Honeymoon are the perfect trilogy, and Lust for Life basically bridges the gap between that trilogy and the rest of her discography. You'll see!

You ATE at 30:20 omg the way I screamed YES right alongside you. Ultraviolence is a beautiful study in toxic / abusive relationship behavior. It fully humanizes the narrator even as she tries so hard to explain why she shouldn’t have your sympathies (hiding behind “my eyes were wide open” “did you hear me say I was the other woman” “how about that I use everyone around me” “I slept my way here” “don’t respect me, I don’t respect myself”). You can’t help but walk away with empathy for the narrator and a deeper understanding of how abuse and exploitation shaped every decision. You see how so many women arrive at the idea that “you can’t exploit me if I’m leaning into it and exploiting myself”… the idea of taking control of your life by minimally having a vote in how it is derailed (because that’s the only path). Ultraviolence was so misunderstood to be Lana glorifying damaging behavior, but to me it has always shown how acceptance of this fate (“if you call for me, I’ll come”) is the tragedy of the story.

oh this album is BRILLIANT, i’m SO happy you chose to give it a listen. she recently decided to repress the coloured LP version if either of you are interested. this album was a monumental part of my teenage hood lol and i still listen to it as much as i did when it came out.
