For those who wonder why it isn't all English: This is taking place in France. France is the language there, and Kirsten speaks it well enough to do a press conference which is amazing enough for her third (as far as I know ... but wait, she reads Finnish?!) language. Sailing is a huge sport in France; much more popular there than in the US. And most French people are not fluent in English. Translation is a very expensive thing to provide, live interpretation even more so, and the GGR is a bootstrap operation in only its second edition in recent times. A few people do everything out of their own passion, and they aren't exactly making money at it. KZbin will eventually auto-add closed captions and auto-translations, but it can take a few days for those to appear, as I know from my own experience uploading videos. The GGR is becoming more popular worldwide thanks to the amazing sailors and the intrepid vision of Don McIntyre (who doesn't speak a lot of French), with his wife Jane's constant assistance. But it's not a scripted reality TV show with a big budget like people are used to seeing on TV. And it's not the Olympics with its long history and corporate sponsorship by deep-pocketed companies like Visa and government support in every country of the world. It's ordinary people doing extraordinary things however they can, and communicating through free services like KZbin and Facebook with smartphones and ordinary network connections. So please take it in the spirit of the sailors on the sea with just their physical bodies, emotional strength, cleverness and strong spirit, and wait for the closed captions and translations to appear in time, just as Kirsten had to wait for a tiny bit of wind to help her float across the finish line.

However, EVERY video that has been posted is in English, so, to sit there and spend months watching videos in English only to get to the end and have poor videography (ending the live streams - don't even get me started on that) and find out it's mostly in French is, shall we say - disheartening (that's putting it mildly). And yes, we're aware this is the second year and yes, we're aware it's a passion and Don is definitely getting some "feedback" on all of this and all we can do is hope that next year he has more experienced help.

Oh yes. Congratulations Kirsten and Minnehaha! Please, please, please, Don. Why does Kirsten have to sell her boat? That is terrible. And unimaginable! Kirsten has now become the most famous and influential woman in sailing history. Please do not allow that to happen to her.

The only way to prevent this from happening is to start a crowd funding and pay for her to keep it.

I cannot imagine being there. To learn from one of the welcoming boats out looking from her “oh you’re first in” must have been thrilling! She looks great here. S Africa and PEI must be thrilled and proud. Would love to be there at this press conference! Kirsten is beautiful! Keep the boat! It is now part of you! If it was a wooden hull, my feelings would be different! Do not let Minnehaha go!

Two happy days of one's life.....the day you buy your boat and the day you sell her. Having o owned several, I fully understand the emotions involved. Kirsten may sell her boat....but I guarantee it will not be her last. Someone will be buying a piece of history I pray they look after it as she did. Well done Kirsten. You are an inspiration to any youngsters out there dreaming of doing something like this!
@HeatherHolm

For those lamenting the idea that Kirsten would sell her boat: I learned some things from co-owning boats for a few years. They are expensive and a lot of work to own. They cost a lot for annual launching, haul-out and mooring or dock fees, they need a lot of maintenance which you have to do, or pay someone to do. They have to suit your purpose, your family size, the sea (or lake) you are sailing on, your lifestyle (retired or working?), your health, whether you have a spouse who likes to sail or not, etc. If you're going round the world you get a suitable boat and prepare it for that. If you're working fulltime on other people's boats, you may just want a little sailing dinghy or kayak or maybe a bicycle instead. A boat equipped for ocean cruising or racing needs to be in the hands of someone who's really going to use it for that. You can't just keep them as souvenirs unless you're going to use them a lot. That's the reality.

Kirsten, with a surname like that you must have a German background. That is neither her nor there. My wife's name is Kerstin, also a German. Both of us are extremely proud of you for doing what you did!!!! We love your boat's name - Laughing water- and while we appreciate that you will sell Minnehaha, we also appreciate that you will buy another boat. It will, however not be named Minnehaha, because that name is now sacred. Go well. JB, Pretoria

-Translation is a very expensive thing to provide ?.

Kirsten came in 🤗🤗hugs & well done. She seen her mum then the mayor somthing then next thing I new done couldn’t get back close to the boat to many people surrounded her then she’s in the stage. That's the difference between Simon and Kirsten. Simon heads as straight for the rum line as possible. That makes him fast but it takes a toll on the equipment. Kirsten is more kind to her boat and that's why she is in the race and Simon as Good as he is, is out. He failed to prep and look after his boat over that distance. (Yes I know they said it was a freak event, that broke his wind vane. But if he had been more gentle on it he may still have been in the race.
