I always appreciate seeing Komekome replays on this channel, as he is constantly improving at both the game, and optimizing Case 2 Asuka. Judging by this replay, tatuma is still "The Asuka K*ller" in Asia, as he consistently 2-0'd Gobou's Asuka in a sparring session for the GGCL (Guilty Gear Champions League) as recently as a week ago (which then forced Gobou to switch to A.B.A/Goldlewis)... Moreover, because I have decided to take a break from GGST, I will post a bit of useless trivia regarding the characters in this video: *Fun Fact #1:* Asuka is a Mage that uses the power of the Tome to cast a variety of spells generated via RNG, but due to them being shown in rectangles, people tend to associate the spells with playing cards. That being said, by the Multiplication Principle, the number of ways one can shuffle Asuka's Test Cases of 30 spells is: (30)(29)(28)....(3)(2)(1) =30! (Equal to the factorial) =30 = 2.652528598E+32 - or 30 = 2.652528598 × 10^32. With this significantly large number, accurately predicting the correct spell and order in Asuka's Test Case(s) will be nearly impossible... *Fun Fact #2:* One, or both of the characters depicted in this replay, are heavily implied to be left-handed - with one being based on a singer/songwriter that was born left-handed, but wrote using their right hand due to the stigma in their country associating the left hand as "unclean." *Fun Fact #3:* Despite ASW being a Japanese company, they appeared to make a critical error regarding Asuka's finished character model somewhere along the line. In Japanese culture, wearing ceremonial Japanese clothing such as Asuka's requires following strict rules called kitsuke -- and one of the most basic customs is to ensure that the left side of the kimono is crossed over the right side; this is because having the right side of the kimono crossed over the left side is reserved for those who have passed away, and it is considered disrespectful to wear a kimono in this fashion -- donning it in this manner also symbolizes d*ath, and is the equivalent of dressing to be at your own funeral. Perhaps ASW was not so careful due to Asuka being a foreigner (American) - because we know they would never make this mistake with Anji or Baiken; but Asuka's old character model that was primarily based on his story mode palette (albeit the colors are a bit too light) had his kimono crossed the correct way (left side over the right side), so I guess it was just an oversight that happened when they decided to change his character model and give him a cape - and they appeared to become aware of this at some point, and the majority of Asuka in-game footage from the trailer is from the character model on the player 2 side. My apologies about the useless trivia and long post, but for those who actually read it, I appreciate you.

Perhaps the kimono could be a subtle way of Asuka accepting his mantle as "The Devil" in lore, since he is responsible for Japan's destruction at the hands of a rogue Justice
@waitingforzato-1i-noinguil301Ай бұрын
@@drewsbiggestfan689This is a very well-thought-out and great theory overall, in my opinion. That would make the most sense in the event that ASW decided that Asuka's kimono being crossed from right to left was intentional, because wearing a kimono in this manner would be his way of paying his respects to the victims of Japan - as it would imply he is "going to their funeral" (the people of Japan in the lore). Forgive me if I'm wrong here, as I have not watched the story mode in about 3 years -- but I believe when Asuka fought Chaos, he interpreted the rationale behind why he is called "The Devil" is due to his fearsome abilities as a magic user; and when he fought Sol in the story, it became even more evident as of why people refer to him by that name, because his eyes looked like that of an empty, emotionless soul with evil intent... Moreover, your hypothesis had me theorizing that perhaps the only reason why Asuka wears traditional/ceremonial Japanese clothing would be due to this fact; but then I realized in all of the artwork featuring Asuka from GGST (save Pop-up Shop collaborations) and the story mode, his kimono is crossed the proper way, which is from left to right; and he wears these clothes on more than one occasion -- with Jack-O' in the game also mentioning that Asuka is in "incognito" - so I essentially shot my own hypothesis down, and it is most likely much simpler to explain; a premise of mine is that Asuka wearing ceremonial Japanese clothing is probably just ASW's/Daisuke Ishiwatari's way of letting the fans of the series/players know that due to his first name being written as 飛鳥, rather than アスカ (which would indicate it is not his birth name/real name), and with only Asuka, Anji, Baiken, and Nago having their names written in Kanji; with the reason for Nago's name being that he is based on a real samurai -- and as for May - that is not her birth name, so it's written as メイ; the way how he dresses, his hobbies, shoes, his middle/last name, and his Japanese-style house on his stage in the game, that it's heavily implied that Asuka is of mixed heritage -- like Sol's last name being Bulsara, the images in the background of Potemkin's HPB, and Axl's clothing indicate their ethnicity - video game companies like to throw around hints like that, without directly stating such. I do like your theory more, though, as it would provide a much deeper meaning than what Daisuke Ishiwatari's possible true intentions are... Sorry for the long response, but I would like to thank you if you have gone through the trouble of reading all of it.

@@waitingforzato-1i-noinguil301 Your analysis and own theorizing is always a delight to read, and I appreciate the time you spend writing these out. I feel the vagueness and small hints are left for us to interpret their meaning and come to our own conclusions, which makes these theories all the more fun to come up with in my eyes

this isn't useless this is lovely trivia! a fun read, always cool to know more about the characters, especially asuka. i think the kimono error being intentional is a possibility, and the implications of asuka being of mixed heritage is cool especially because i already headcanon that ^_^

@@drewsbiggestfan689I appreciate the kind words, and I can most definitely say the same about you. With Guilty Gear being a work of fiction, the hints and small details left by the creator(s) will be different depending on one's own experiences and interpretations; and I definitely agree that this makes theorizing all the more interesting and fun -- as it can sometimes feel as if you're solving a puzzle.

It's pretty interesting how Umisho's sol was compared to Tatuma's Sol. Umisho's Sol had some crazy execution and conversions where as Tatuma seems to go for a simpler gameplan. Not trying to downplay Tatuma, he obviously knows how to play, I find it interesting how different they play.
