They just cant craft anything like this anymore. Nothing means anything anymore on any of these shows. Life isn't sacred. Relationships are not sacred. There is no value in any character now as various writers have turned evey shows' storyline into a plot devices.

It always bugged me that they made lily's death such a tragedy in his life let's be honest he loved her but he sure as hell wasn't in love with her. She was a world class manipulator and when all of her tricks to keep Sonny failed to break his connection to Brenda she got pregnant, I literally yelled omg is she dead? Oh thank god for that. I think it stayed with him for so long because she was the first in a long line of people that died because of his choices.

Sonny only married her to keep himself out of prison. Lily told her daddy that she was in love with sonny and wanted to marry her. That's when lily's father gave sonny a choice either marry her or go to prison.
