hey i wouldnt say that my technique is very efficient regarding the duration it can be help up for but what i do is use my upper legs as my main source of speed/power. the best example of this would be to sit down in a chair, then bring both your legs and feet out in front of you so the heels of your feet are about 5-10 cms off the ground and then vibrate your legs as fast as u can. what you should see is that your knees are bouncing up and down. Hope you understand what i mean :)

also, this is a self-taught technique so i still question its efficiency but it works for me as u can see :) best way to build up speed that has worked for me is to practise and practise and practicse (yes, you may have heard this many times but its very true). i have been playing real drums for just over 2 years now and only started using double bass just over a year ago. simply by practising i have been able to get to this level of speed (can go slightly faster :D ).

yeah man ive gone through 3 kits and i guess i got lucky that the one i have now doesnt overhit or anything like that. try covering ur snare in tape or something or if ur not already try use light sticks, because its the vibrations of the kit that riggers the toms, the blue and green pads always screw up first :(
