The blue numbers on slowhero paths show how many beats of star power sustain exist in the above measure. It counts the base sustain length and the early whammy you get in that measure, affected by path difficulty option and tempo.

Ah I see, thanks for the clarification. I suppose that's why the time signatures are relevant and certain paths like Trogdor are so wonky. Doubt I'll ever be smart enough to deduce anything useful with the info lol, but still good to know.
