VFR is an awesome feature, especially for cameras without I.S. such as GH4. That SloMo really helps to smooth out any hand gitter. However, the low data rate on the 8-bit GH4 under GH4 really requires you to exposure correctly since you don't have too much room to push the exposure and color when using V-Log L. With 10-bit and awesome I.S. in GH5, this feature is fantastic. I found most of the time, I do not need the gimbal anymore. Even 2 sec 60 fps/120fps clip will extend to a 5 ~ 10 sec 24 fps very smooth video, which is more than enough to make a cut shot. Oh, and combined with shutter angle feature in Panasonic GH5, it really saves you time to calculate the change the shutter speed whenever you change FPS. Great great feature.
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
i totally agree with you on this! i've almost eliminated a gimbal from my workflow with the gh5

It's a shame that the slow motion conversion is handled automatically in the camera. I'd rather have the choice to use it how I wanted. The panasonic cameras have some obvious problems with aliasing at the higher frame rates.

I see a lot of these videos where everyone says VFR is how they "always" shoot. So my question is this: They only shoot non-normal video? (normal= normal motion, not fast or slow or hyper). Is that true? I can't find a guide that doesn't say they only shoot in VFR so is it edited in post after? Or how do people get normal talking videos (like this one)?

@Calebhoover. you can make a video how to record 120 slow motion in 4k on gh6?
@MedTherapySpa2 жыл бұрын
So, I can't find a video or online article about 3 questions I have which I'm hoping maybe you can help me with which you discuss briefly. maybe I didn't understand but here goes. Question 1: I record a video with my GH5M2 with a [Recorded frame rate: 59.94] and [Variable frame rate of 120] giving me a 50% slow effect. When I'm using my editing platform does the Timeline frame rate need to be 59.94 or 120? Question 2: If the answer to question 1 is to use the recorded frame rate rather than variable frame rate then how does using different recorded frame rates effect my variable frame rate? Is it that the editing platform tries to fit 120 variable frames in 59.94 recorded frames? Question 3: Let's say I keep my 120 variable frame rate, but I switch the recorded frame rate down to 29.97 instead of the 59.94 recorded frame rate. This decreases the slow effect to 25% instead of 50% which is possible on the GH5 and GH5M2. =========This makes the slow effect appear even slower on the 29.97 recorded frame rate, though it seems to appear with more motion blur but it's hard to tell. It leaves me confused because if I am setting the device to record 120 frames per second using the variable frame rate, I'd think that no matter what the recording frame rate is set to; it should still be recording 120 frames per second. thus, still giving same amount slowness speed. (Which is obviously not the case) ==========In Conclusion: The correlation between Variable frame rate and Recorded frame rate has a lot to do when deciding the different Rec Quality formats that have the option on the bottom displayed (VFR available) within the GH5/GH5M2 which I don't yet fully understand.

Is there a way you can change a recorded slow mo vid to a regular vid on gh5 cause when you record in the slow mo it has another time next to that shorter time in the gallery
@tubehead101 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, I know you posted this video a while back, but I hope you might be able to help with my GH5 variable frame rate issue. I'm following your very clear instructions, but it's not working entirely the same way for me. I want to make C1 set at 120fps so that I just go to C1 and it's set, but when I switch from the Movie option on the dial to C1 and go to menu, there is no longer the Creative Video option in the menu and so I can't go there to set frame rate. So how do I set the frame rate on C1? Further, when set to the movie option on the dial, I have made Fn1 button set to be Variable Frame Rate, but when I press it, nothing happens. In C1 option I am set to Full HD 8bit 100M 60p. In movie, I am set to 4k 8bit 100M 30p. In both cases, shooting MP4 LPCM. Hope you can help. Thank you.

I would love to use this slider in my ManCave shed home studio, I produce & present a weekly live stream here on KZbin & on Facebook and use my GH5 as my main camera. Happy and healthy New Year man. yeah totally for the lowlight the gh5s is gonna be a better option. variable frame rate is definitely a nice feature if used sparingly.

Question: why shoot in variable frame rate when you can just shoot 4k 150M 60fps and it preserves the sound and you slow it down later. What is the benefit of shooting with VFR?
@progfoxmusic3 жыл бұрын
The benefit being that you have more frames to slow down and thus way slower SMOOTH footage? And most people that are using super slow mo shots for b-roll or for music videos etc don't need the sound
@amitj70342 жыл бұрын
@@progfoxmusic yes you are right and the best example is a pre wedding or a video portrait where you need no sound and can preview the slow mo footage on the spot.

If I bring the variable frame rate footage of 120 or 60 into premiere, will I loose frames if I add a speedramp to its since its already converted to 24fps when its imported?
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
i've noticed a bit of what seems like skipped frames when speed ramping but ive been able to hide it for the most part with fine tuning the ramp

@Schlaughter Жыл бұрын
Am i right in saying the vfr footage of say 120fps is coming into premier at 25fps and has been processed into slowmo footage. So no slowing down or speeding up is nessasary. But if you shoot at say 50fps u will have to put that onto a 25fps timeline and adjust the speed and duration to 50% to slow it down?
