How do you get your slow motion footage looking so smooth? I live in UK so have to use PAL system frequency , which has limited codec options - doesn't even have 24fps, only 25fps. Also, I have to use 100fps variable frame rate with 360 shutter speed, or else I get black lines moving up screen if I try to use any other variable frame rate than 100fps. When I import 100fps footage onto a 25p timeline in final cut pro and slow footage by 50 % it is not smooth. What am I doing incorrectly? Thanks

I've got to film a fire art installation at night in a few weeks time with my GH5 & 12-35 Lumix GX Vario II. Two questions... 1. Any tips for settings that will help / make it easier and look good? 2. If I had some cash, should I hire A. a faster lens to use with the GH5 body or.... B. A GH5S body to use with the 12-35 I've got? Cheers! (PS. I don't have V-log, just standard pic profiles).

I would light up the scene if you have lights! Lighting a scene is what makes everything look good. It doesn't matter what camera you have. BUT if you do not have lights, I would definitely get the GH5S. The GH5 won't do good in low light. Even with a fast lens.

Late to the party and just picked up a GH5! Question:. Is there any benefit to using VLOG in 8 bit? You'd have to use 10 bit to take full advantage of it. Would HLG or just sticking to HLG better?!

VFR customized to the button on front like you said. But this only works when my camera is again set in 1080P. (in 4K this button does nothing) Because normally I alway shoot 4K 50P. Or do I missed something? Thank you for this video! I shoot on the GH5S.

Hey Brock very helpful video! I have a question. How do you get objects to stay in focus while they are moving when you are shooting in slow motion? Im guessing it has to stay in manual mode. I notice all your objects in your clips are in perfect focus while they are moving. I just bought this camera so I’m trying to figure everything out. Thanks bro!

Yea you have to stay in manual focus when you shoot anything over 60 fps. I set focus manually and than press record! Does this answer your question?

Brock Bailey but what if you object is moving? I’m using the 25mm F1.7 lens to do this. Is there a way to lock on a object so the focus will follow it in 60 FPS?

@@THEHALLFAMILY2018 If your object is moving than you will have to move with the subject. Always maintain the same distance with you and your subject. The GH5 is not a good auto focus camera unfortunately. So if you were wanting a camera that you wanted to do more run and gun work, I would invest in the Sony a7iii or the Canon EOS r. I now have the EOS r and its out of this world!

Great video but once I shoot this footage and bring it in to premiere it says the footage was 23.945, but its in slowmotion. Is that normal? And can I add a speed ramp to that.

Shoot at a high F stop lol Focusing is always tough on the GH5 unfortunately. But I just try to focus as if i am shooting normal.

Hey, Brock, thanks for the vid. I'm handling a GH5 at work and very new to it. Understanding how high frame rates work, should your shutter speed always be twice your VFR? For example, I set it to 120fps. So does that mean I always have to keep my shutter at 1/240?

Just set your slow motion settings to c1 and then you can click between movie mode (4k) and then flick to c1 for your slow motion, less triggering around

do the same thing, go to 4k VFR and choose 60fps and that will bake the slow motion into the footage, then set it to a custom button so its just a click away

@XtraConfidence Go to your menu and select the wrench icon, the menus on my gh5s show 1/5 but on the first menu there you will see Cust. Set Mem. and when you select that option it'll ask you to select between C1, C2, C3-1-C3-3. You can save 3 different settings to the C3 section but you'll have to click the C3 icon on the flip monitor while shooting and then the 3 options will pop up that you can select from to choose which C3 settings you'd like to go with. Hope this helps someone.

Probably some LED lights on batteries, lights flicker because of 50 Hz and they turn on and off very fast.

do u know how to set 4k 60 in anamorphic mode.. cant find tje option . but Panasonic says gh5s can shoot 60fps in anamorphic mode..

At the very beginning you forgot to mention you have to be in the correct mode first . I was in program mode and there is no option. you have to be in the movie camera icon M mode. maybe obvious to you but for us learning we don't know this

I had a play around today with my new gh5 on 100 fps (PAL since I'm in europe). I noticed that the recorded video file plays at 25 fps buy slowed down to 25%. With my gopro any recorded footage plays at 100% but you need to manually slow down footage to 25% etc in your editing sw. Is this option also available in the gh5? I.e. recorded 100 fps plays at 100% straight out of the camera?

Only way you grow as a filmmaker is not doing auto focus. The GH5 isnt a great auto focus camera. I would really try and work on doing manual focus!

You don’t have autofocus when shooting in vfr, so you don’t have autofocus with 120 fps. Only when you use 60 fps without vfr.

The lights have a low CRI rating. Nothing you can do about that unfortunately. If I see lights flicker I try and turn them off or shoot in 24p

Brock, anytime I shoot in any color profile or VFR option above 60fps - I get tons of horizontal noise. All the footage is not usable. Any ideas why or how to fix this issue?

That's a frequency issue. Shouldn't be happening unless you have some sort of lights in your scene. Lights are different frequency than your camera.

Outside in the daytime with no lighting on a perfect day this will happen as well (basically anytime I go higher then 60fps in any color profile)...Im to the point where I think I got a faulty camera and might need to exercises my warranty. I welcome any other suggestions though. I also thought it was a SD card problem, so I upgraded to a Sandisk 128GB UHS-ii v90 300 mb/sd card. Still....No luck!

Trying to set front function button but can't seem to get it to work on the gh5s. Any tips or a video on how to do that. I held down the front button selected variable frame rate in the customized to that button and then got out of the menu but it did not switch back and forth between the two settings.

Today I tested this on the GH5 (without s), and the result is: You press the front function button, the VFR frequencies appear and you can dial in. After chosing the desired frequency you can press MENU/SET set what you dialed in. For VFR to work you have to be in specific modes ( or otherwise expressed: It won´t work in certain modes). I hope I could help at least a small little bit and caused no unnecessary confusion.

What is the difference between FHD 8bit 60fps (120fps) and FHD 8bit 24fps (120fps) I know it is your output in 24 or 60, but why do you use 60 and not 24? Why use one over the other? 😊

It does not matter which one you use. its a variable frame rate. so if I'm shooting the day in FHD 60p an I want to quickly do 120fps I would stay in 60 but if I was shooting in FHD 24 I would quickly shoot what I needed in 120fps using variable frame rate. there is no difference:)
