I know this is just an introduction (and good job btw), but I think it's helfpful to know that different picture profiles have different IRE values. Cine D for instance clips at 105 (which is why that's an option for setting your Zebra) whereas VLog-L clips at 80 (so setting at 95 wouldn't be helpful). Also, middle grey and shadow detail will shift around in different profiles as well. Maybe information for a more detailed tutorial later!
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
yeah this was totally just an intro into the different tools but yeah more detailed later on would be 👍
@Freddd952 жыл бұрын
Wow, that information just made zebra settings a lot more complicated for me... How do you know what IRE value the different picture profiles are clipping at? You really have to change zebra settings every time you change picture profile? And how about the manual adjustments within a specific profile?

not totally sure why that's happening. i wonder if it has to do with luminance levels or something. but i haven't encountered that before.
@sutv67544 жыл бұрын
excellent Caleb. Very helpful. I wanted to ask you and maybe I did but one big mystery across the gh5 board is Luminance Levels Setting. That is a dirty word that nobody talks about. I have searched and searched. I've done some tests and I see the numbers for Luninance levels are different depending on on 10 bit or 8 bit. There are 3 choices for each. What the hell? Why does nobody address or talk about these settings. Do you know?
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
you know i've always just kept luminance levels at 0-255 and haven't had any issues in 10bit or 8bit. that's mostly content for the web tho. if you're doing more broadcast work you might need to adjust that to 0-1023 or something like that.
@sutv67544 жыл бұрын
Caleb Hoover if you examine it, there are completely different settings for the 8 and 10 bit. I think it’s odd these settings are such a mystery to pretty much everyone. I reached out to a couple ambassadors and they don’t know either. Thanks.

This is great. Thank you. How do you work when you're shooting a little more quickly, like a wedding party or something you need to be a bit more nimble? Are you still going through the same process or are you a little more loose when approaching that and just checking for zebra patterns versus going through all three tools? This seems great if you're locking off a shot or setting up something that's a bit more choreographed.

Worth Lock the exposure? If you’ve set a manual exposure it’s ”locked”. I don’t understand the question... Of course the exposure may shift if you swing the camera around.

There's an AF/AE button on the back of the camera, you can that can lock your exposure if you keep it pressed down although if you're in manual mode all you have to do is set your exposure and not change the ISO, aperteur or shutter shutter and exposure won't change.

I find the wave form monitor too small (i do use the histogram) however, I have purchased an IOS app . . . FieldMonitor by Abam Wilt (which is similar to the Panasonic Image app) and I use an iPad mini as my monitor. i agree with marguerite, an nd filter would probably help. use a variable nd filter and you can stay wide ope at 2.8 and make adjustments with the filter. i typically think f4 or f5 is really good for outdoors with a variable nd.
