This lady MARY EUDES BATIKI ACQUAH is a fireball. She's indeed a Pan Africanist". I must confess, I've been enlightened on a couple of issues. We need such people in Africa if we're to develop. She's well versed in many cardinal social/political/economical issues in our "motherland" and yet, she's a mechanical engineer. Indeed, she's an intellectual. I am impressed.

I will listen to this lady 100 times. Very analytical and bold. I fact-checked a few things she talked about and she is right. Human development and freedom are far better than Physical structures. but because people don't see it physically, don't appreciate it. Even Families that use their resources to educate their children do better and become great eventually than ones that use their resources on buildings and other material things. I pray that we have more of such people

I'm Ghanaian and I think this conversation is flawed. Firstly, I don't know where Jermaine gets the idea of tribes in Ghana not getting along. For the most part, what we see is random banter from time to time and this does not equate to not getting along. Secondly, Rwanda and South Africa are obviously doing great even if their approach to growth is unique. We have to remember the history of Rwanda and South Africa and why that is shaping their mode of governance. I'd rather we celebrate all the countries doing well to serve as inspiration for the others rather than pitting these 3 great countries against each other.

I think this interview is really flawed and leaves much to be desired in understanding. She is not well informed at all and not speaking facts but speculations and observations. Even BEE was started before Zuma came to power. Pravin Gordhan is Indian. It's also a lie to say only mechanical engineers and doctors are only white and foreigners. Even to say Mandela didn't do anything is an insult because we must remember he was in power for 5years and gave power away. Education is free in South Africa for primary and secondary school. Free housing has been a policy that was even started in 1996 when Mandela was in power. The same constitution was drafted under the leadership of Nelson Mandela. Beautiful, yes. Brains, I doubt it. She's bold in stupidity or ignorance. Her views are not balanced. I would imagine that, if one is half Ghana and half Rwandese, one would be biased to some extent on both because there would be that umbilical cord that somehow one becomes attached. Even if they have strong views on Rwanda, as in this case, one would have balanced views because of that umbilical cord. It's human nature to be like that, and is healthy. It's difficult for me to understand that someone who has some roots in Rwanda, cannot appreciate where that country comes from and not appreciate the progress made thus far, and how vulnerable they should be. I will not speak about her comments on my country South Africa, I was shocked by her generalisation of the country. Then I was consoled by the fact that, if she's like that in respect to Rwanda, where she has roots, how much more to South Africa.

Take time to know your mother's land a bit better dear. I am half Rwandan and half Tanzanian too. All countries have their own dynamics and the way countries address those dynamics can never be one size fits all. There has been genocide in Rwanda and if you open the country to a western democracy whereby people say whatever come out of their mouth irresponsibly, terrible things will happen again. Rwanda is still healing and the national identity which the Late President Kwame and the Late President Nyerere built years ago in Ghana and Tanzania respectively, is what Rwanda is doing now. @Mari Jata because you accept mediocrity, that's the problem. We as Ghanaians fail to admit we are the problem. What stops us from changing our corrupt practice and be principled to uplift our country to be better. The frustrations in Ghana by our greedy actions can a potential entrepreneur's spirit. It's sad how we fail to ponder recognize the rippling effect of our actions on others and the entire country at large. I get so sad every time I observe how bad we treat our own people stifling progress and promoting poverty. In reality I have we comparing ourselves to other countries whether developed or underdeveloped because we have enormous opportunity to be the best there is with all our resources. We should steer our own development not looking at others at all
@yawowusuansah2029
@yawowusuansah2029 3 жыл бұрын
@Mari Jata explain to me what mediocrity means other than accepting and praising low standard achievement, I am probably an illiterate then. I don't go wrong with my syntax and the fact that you think Ghanaians have high expectations when indeed its in their rights to demand for more than they are currently getting, they should be expecting more because we deserve better. Peace cannot be sustained when people are hungry and poor. And the poor and illiterates are easily manipulated to do the dirty works of the politician and the rich. What's the excuse that with all the resources in abundance we are far behind in improving the standard of living of our people? We are the luckiest nation in terms of resources yet we have failed the people by denying them equal opportunities to create wealth and prosper due to selfishness and greed the sheer propensity to Lord over others. Corruption is systematic because we as a people have made it so not being bold to say truth to power and condemning the act because we are cowards and delusional to even admit it when we commit it. My point is Ghanaians are right to expect more. It's the little expectations that has emboldened the politicians to underperform and are complacent to do much more than they are currently doing. We ought not to get a pass at our sorry state. I tell you the level of frustration experienced in the country is shockingly high because for someone with the traveling exposure that I have had and the enthusiasm I returned to start up something with the earnings I made and yet 2yrs on I only have regrets to show for because of lies and deceit of the people who didn't care that all the resources I and my partner pumped into the setup came to nothing simply because we wanted to do things the right way. I don't even blame the politicians that much because they come from the pool of the people hence the biggest problem is with us the people and these politicians are only a reflection of us. We have the right to demand than just the peace and freedom of speech we are enjoying. We ought demand of principles and equality and equal opportunity for all. It's not too much to ask so we don't have I high expectations, we deserve more than we are getting
@yawowusuansah2029
@yawowusuansah2029 3 жыл бұрын
@Mari Jata to answer your question corruption is translated pr)y3 literally "decay" and I don't know the relevance of your question in our conversation but If your perception is that I'm not familiar with the language of my own mother tongue then you are dead wrong. I responded to your view that Ghanaians are in the wrong to have high expectations because to you our country it's better off in comparison to other African countries and that's the exhibition of appreciation of mediocrity, the standards to which Ghanaians should be satisfied. Nobody determines the standards other than the person who is affected that is my point. See I'm not even a fun of comparing ourselves to developed nations. Should some other person be the one to tell me I'm poor when I can hardly make ends meet? Should someone be the one to tell me my life is not better when I don't have access to proper health care, proper education, essential utility services like water and electricity, and equitable access to essential services? I made comparison to my life abroad and how it has drastically declined when I made the decision to return and invest home. My current state is not the fault of any politician but unscrupulous individuals who were more interested in getting something for their bellies with deception instead of being truthful. An there countless of these kind of people in the country. So no I like many others won't keep mute and accept things as we being better of when as a matter of fact a positive change in our attitude will improve our condition of life tremendously. I never mentioned anywhere in my submission that you condone corruption. I simply brought up the issue of corruption being the bane of our country's sorry state and to accept the current standards as we being better off is appreciation of mediocrity because we deserve far better. So you may read what I wrote again to understand my submission clearly

As a South African, her comparison about South African townships to the Zongo's in Ghana is just a lie. Most Township's in SA have tarred roads, running water, sewage networks and electricity. She goes to one area and thinks that the rest of South Africa is like that, that's just myopic. Most South Africans don't live in the manner she's describing. It makes me question the credibility of most of what she says. The job things is not true. Townships are the same all over. The Mandela thing is correct though. Not all the engineers and doctors are white, most are black, the doctors I know are black, I've got 3 siblings who are all engineers, who are black. And no we don't say you are from Africa, we mention the country you are from! BEE was not introduced by Zuma, it was the president before him, Mbeki in 2003. Xenophobia was initiated by Somalians in South Africa, who were trying to get rid of their competition (Nigerians, Indians etc) with regards to Township stores, it did not originate from South Africans, the media reported lies. She sensationalises too much, which makes her credibility questionable. Try and get people who know their facts.

Paul Kagame and his masters from the West destroyed the country of Rwanda through the war they launched from Uganda in October 1990. The said war led to mass massacres of both Hutus and Tutsis. It was Tony Blair and his cronies' duty to rebuild the country with the money stolen from Congo (DRC). No big deal.

Joe Magata please don’t believe anything you hear. Ask the truth Rwandans (who lives in Rwanda because most of those who lives outside are mostly those who committed genocide) if you don’t believe them, ask foreigners who have been in Rwanda at least once. No one will say anything like that. How can a country enter into another independent country and steal it’s resources just like that, without any effect? Your guest does not understand a difference between a township and a squattercamp (informal settlements)...since 94 when we gained independence a mere 26 years SA government has built over 3.5 million homes for the poor (without challenges brought by corruption and slow land reform this number could be greater) and recently started providing qualifying citizens with serviced stands (running water/electricity/sanitation). I will agree with her though that over 70% of farm land is owned by minorities but looking at total land most is owned by government and communal land by traditional leaders. SA is currently reviewing section 25 of constitution on land to speedy up land reform. The government offers free education to first degree this includes transportation and feeding schemes. The government runs one of the biggest if not the number 1 social grants system in Africa - child, pension, disability and foster care grants. SA offers free medical healthcare with clinics (mainly deal with family planning, chronic medications, child vaccinations and referrals for major issues) in every municipality/Metro and regional hospitals - due to being overburdened there are waiting lists however you would receive necessary help (oneday will touch on how illegal immigrants impact this system and taking advantage of SA constitution with regard to human rights..we cannot turn people back). We have challenges but we working on it and that start with killing corruption and returning rule of law. I was born and bred in a township...townships have advanced in comparable to late 80s & 90s due to a number of people being educated and working in corporate SA even in urban/suburbs majority residents remain black with exception of Cape town though that will change soon. I would recommend your guest to visit Townships in Gauteng the economic hub of South Africa.

I welcomed Ghanaian teachers in South Africa in the 1980"s, at that time when they arrived, poverty was written all over their appearance, our lives were much much better than them being in one of the poorest provinces in SA, their lives started to improve when they were employed by a black independent state, which is now part of South Africa. You can never in 50 years compare the social life of the lives of South African with your own, right now I have a 10 times better that it was in the 80,s. So which SA was this person in. We have our own poor like any other country. I have been to Nigeria, and Zimbabwe, just by outlook, I was very angry with the Nigerian government. The way its economy is. I sometimes felt like it was not real, Zimbabwe is by far much better than what I saw in Nigeria. There are thousands of black doctors and engineers. Go to the best hospital in Cape Town you will find many black doctors, it's worse in Joghburg, do not try to affirm your country by lying. Yes apartheid deprived is opportuties but hey our present government provides the best opportunities ever. As Someone who has travelled & worked in Africa I must Say that Rwanda is overated, dont get me wrong its doing good there is progress but there are countries in much better state than Rwanda. Take Botswana for example, a country that was the 2nd poorest in Africa at independence with no schools, varsity or roads but today is ranked the most developed in Sub Saharan Africa by Human development Index with regards to quality/standard of life, access to water, power, education, housing etc Its Africa's longest continuous democracy, its doing fantastic things ICT, free healthcare, free education up to tertiary with more IVY league graduates per capita in Africa, functional democracy & has been rated one of the best governed countries past 20 years. Just to put things in perspective i visited Rwanda few years ago, in rural Rwanda electricity can for over 24 hours in Botswana i was amazed there is an uproar when electricity is gone just for an hour, rural rwanda people who have no access to basic necessities like water, power & Botswana 88% of households are connected. Rwanda is 12 million & its GDP is equal to that of the capital of Botswana (Gaborone) yet Botswana is just 2 million & Gaborone alone uses more electricity that the whole of Rwanda per annum. Rwanda has worked very hard to brand itself you cant fault them there & in terms of tourism it has worked for them, today when you thinks success, safety, cleanliness in Africa you think Rwanda but it still has a long way to go.

Every African who is well informed knows that Botswana is doing better than Rwanda economically. However, Rwanda is not overrated as you stated. I visited Rwanda (Kigali, Gitarama, Ruhengeri, and Gisenyi) last year after spending 20 years in the 🇺🇸 and I was blown away by the level of development that I saw. Comparing Rwanda and Botswana without mentioning the fact that Botswana has built-in/God given advantages (mineral resources, bigger land and animals for tourism industry) that Rwanda does not have is unfair to Rwanda. For your information, Rwanda has achieved more development in the last 25 years than Botswana.

I worked in IT is SADC countries & let me tell most of those countries have ICT infrastructure in their schools, Botswana schools have WIFI & so does public libraries, national train & public spaces, Botswana police is ranked 1 in Africa, Botswana was ranked least corrupt country in Africa past 20 years & it was unseated only last years by Seychelles a country that infact benchmarked with Botswana & implemented its policies, in South Africa there are wifi in schools & what they call smartboards & i have seen those even in Botswana & Namibia, if you talk of literacy Botswana is one of the highest ranked in Africa & they give free education up to tertiary & students living allowance & to my understanding its the only country to do that. You get me wrong am not putting down Rwanda its a well run developing country but in Africa its not yet at par with the likes of Seychelles, Botswana, Mauritius, Namibia or even Gabon.

Love, hate or criticize Preident Kagame, he brought order in Rwanda and the systems of the government are working in well unlike many other countries especially a country that came out of civil war. The city of Kigali is clean and functioning and in the right track. And no country is perfect, but when we see progress and standard of living going up and getting better we have to applaud. Rwanda is doing great in many aspects, business included and you cannot hold us for few things. It's an exaggeration to say it is like North Korea, utterly nonsense.

The European model is better. Each country has its own leader and judiciary system but the European court is the highest law maker and all countries must abide by this court’s directives. But let’s not think this would solve all our problems, Europe has it’s own issues hence Brexit. What we need in Africa is free trade inside Africa, not so strict borders and most of all, infrastructure that allows countries to trade like roads and railways. Right now, travelling inside Africa is a nightmare! In Europe, I can jump on a train in London and connect all the to Russia without much problem. A drive from Senegal to Kenya is almost impossible.

What matters isn’t staying on power for long time. It’s rather what you do for your people for that long time on power. We have seen that so- called African imported democracies , where at elections, thousands get killed, hundreds of thousands go in exile, etc... and after five years, nothing was done. Zero or minus. I would give you more that 10 examples, but it’s not my agenda to criticize countries here。 The cycle in Africa has been just a fight to get wealthy and leave the population at a lower lever of development than where they were before. Is that the democracy you wish for Rwanda? If so, then you don’t love Rwanda. We have chosen a unique and tailor made leadership and values that you won’t see anywhere in the world. Why? Because we crossed the worst moments in the last 75 years on the world, and we overcame the situation with no any intervention. Whether western or any other. @@shango7942 that was true before the age of technology, even then vast empires were ruled by single individuals, now one person can see more than 10,000 people in the past. Besides, a cornerstone of good governance is decentralization, local decisions don't have to be made by the ruling entity, Africa is too large to be governed that way even by a group. Communities should built to be able to self govern, maintain and develop regardless of what's happening in the central government. That would be a system without a single point of failure. Decisions don't have to be funneled upwards to fill up the desks of a few officials and encourage corruption. Standards can be set on how things like contracts are awarded based on quality of past work, costs, speed and public necessity. Positions would be offered to officials on merit based on set criteria that guarantees that well educated and competent people are attracted to the opportunity. Most leadership should also not be term based but merit based, leaders should be kicked out and replaced the moment they are involved in corruption or proven to be incompetent. This would also eliminate voting based on tribe or religion which has destroyed so many countries and encouraged morally corrupt behaviour. The government should be run more like an army serving the people that a loose conglomerate of varying alliegences rife with political infighting, tribalism, corruption and foreign influences. Because we are made up of different peoples, it's easy for foreigners to infiltrate and turn groups against each other, especially in democratic systems.

It's not entirely true to say President Kagame has access to all eastern minerals to DRC because they are many groups who have interest including many multinational companies. I would recommend you discuss one matter at the time because the DRC issues are not caused by Kagame but have been there for many years and needs good historical understanding and who is doing business in the region currently. Eastern DRC is very big land area even bigger than Ghana in land size.

So many things she got wrong about South Africa 🇿🇦, if these are the kind of expert views we should expect from "knowledgeable " people then we have still got a very long way to go as a continent 😪. Cry the beloved continent 😭😭😭.

She said there are no black doctors and no black engineers in South Africa. That's a blatant lie. And then she was confusing townships with informal settlements. I wonder if she has actually been to a township. One begins to wonder how much of what she said about Rwanda was true. What a disappointing interview.

BEE= Black Economic Empowerment. Pravin Gordan is an Indian not white or coloured. Mandela changed South Africa a lot, he was a great man. Even if ANC govern South Africa, Our constitution allows the political parties that won the individual Provences through voting to govern those Provences. Whites and Coloureds(mixed race of whites and blacks) are majority in Western Cape. Western Cape province was and still govern by whites, that is why the effects of the changes Mandela made are slow in Cape Town. Please don't compare Ghana with Cape Town, you rather compare Ghana with South Africa. After ANC (Mandela) took over the government they have done a lot of good things to the people including the freedom of speech. The current biggest enemy of my beloved country is corruption which is fueled by tendering system and nepotism.

Mary, you are making a terrible generalization on Mandela's achievement, he just laid the foundation for his people. And here you are pitying black south Africans and seeing them as downtrodden people. You claim that they do not have the drive to become imaginable. Here you just reveled your colonial mind. You need to dicolonize yourself, you definetly still worship the European system! It is written all over you and the way you talk. I feel so sorry my sister.
