Sorry for my OCD, I’ve been watching videos on how to convert the 15’4” classic from a Chattahoochee River Trout Fly Fishing boat into a Flats boat. The other undiagnosed disorders- ADD/ADHD are starting to dwindle and I’m actually watching fishing videos. Learning to fly fish was much more difficult than I every thought when I first got started. (About a year long process) If that wasn’t hard enough, I decided about the same time to learn how to tie flies as well. (Trout flies are hard/small!) But the feeling you get catching a nice Brown or Rainbow on a fly that you tied yourself was the BEST fishing experience ever. (Or so I thought…) I took the fly tying knowledge to the Everglades and my fly tying equipment and thought I’d give Snook and Red fishing a try. I’m thinking it was Day 3 in a little “S” curve between bays I finally got a a Snook. Bypassed the 15-18ers and went straight to a Slot Snook. (Not on purpose) It’s been a few years now, but without a doubt the most exciting and most memorable fish I ever caught. (Fly rod, my own fly, nowhere to maneuver, etc. That was the best catch ever!)

Yes!!!! I understand completely!!!! How is the boat remodel going for you? Mine ended up taking about a year. I have been fly fishing and tying flies for about 6 years now and I agree I get the most enjoyment out of making a fly and then catching fish on it!!!! It is just this completion you know? Like full circle, you put in the work and you were rewarded. Congratulations on your snook!!!!! If I go fishing with a fly I made and catch one fish I am happier than if I caught 20 on live bait. I’m sorry for the late response. I’m actually out in Colorado for the week. I’m driving, fishing, and back country camping across the state. So my service is bad. Let me know how the boat is coming and what your favorite fly to tie is!!!!

@@DesOnTheFly Boat and trailer upgrades are coming along, albeit slowly. I’m trying something very foreign to me- “Think first, cut and resin second.” I’m actually scaring myself. I’m thinking, I’m mocking thing out first… I don’t know where this radical side of me is coming from. Never reared it’s ugly head at Lakeland High School or FSC. I decided to go with the FRP board with the pebble surface on the casting deck and false floors. Where the real thinking is coming in is in the supports. As you know, you’d like as much storage space as possible. Wiring, fuses, battery placement all worry me.

My favorite meal ever was while fishing in the backcountry south of Chokoloskee. We camped out, but we only packed a few potatoes, oil, flour and cornmeal. (There may have been 2 or 24 Coors Light, I don’t remember) We caught plenty of Red’s and Snook, just not a keeper. We switched tactics and caught a few mangrove snapper. Not sure to this day if it was the fish we caught or starvation, but when someone ever asks, “What was your all-time favorite dinner?” It’s easy- “Mangrove Snapper deep fried in a coffee can with potato slices and beer.” You look like you have a better setup.

Ha! It might have been the starvation but the memories make it better!

First was the price of the tent, I think I paid $40 bucks for it compared to other tents that are in the three figure price. Second was the reviews, It had a lot of good reviews when I was looking around for a tent. Mine states that it is a two person tent but I would think it would be a bit cramped with two people in it. I've used it about a dozen times now and can honestly say I have had no problems so far. I do hang a tarp over it when I know it's going to rain heavy, but I would do that with any tent for the extra protection. I tend to overdo things a bit, lol. How are you liking your Gheenoe? I've been looking for a skiff and have my eye on the gheenoes. The only problem is that I live in Rhode Island and there aren't any dealers around here.

I agree on the price! And I have used it 25 times or so and it is starting to wear where you put the tent bars through, on the top. I used a can of waterproofing spray for the walls and that really helps with the rain. I have fit a full size inflatable mattress in it and two twin size ones (the full is a little tight). I like how it is putting up with the salt water well. And when I need to brush out the sand I leave it up and just take the steaks out and tip it. :). I like the gheenoe! If I could go back I would get one of the newer ones with a wider stern. It can be a little tippy. But it fits in the garage and didn’t break the bank.

He may have, but I don't think so. It was a big enough fish that they would have left after they got him. but they were right back staring at me after. I didn't show it but I kept him for almost 10 minutes up with me (extra revival, and hoping they would go away). I stopped fishing after that, because they need to go hunt for themselves :(
