I'm heartbroken that it seems like DA is at its end, but this video is a good capstone to this era and this story which had me crying for days. I hope you keep making DA videos all around the new information from DAV. Just because EA/Bioware are giving up on DA, doesn't mean the rest of us are.

@RevolutionofStatusQuo there is one big issue from what we know... Basically the whole DA team is gone now. Almost everyone that has worked on any of the games are gone including all the people that know how the story is meant to go. We may get another DA game. But without the amazing people that have worked so hard on these games and this world... It won't be the same. Now a completely fresh team can do good work but... It won't be this DA world we know and love. DA as an IP isn't much without the incredible team behind it.

@@Light-11Yeah, if a new team works on it then I’d like two things. First, a team that actively wants to stick to the RPG elements of Dragon Age, which I’m not hopeful for thanks to EA. And second, a reboot or a different time period, because that’d let them make their own mark instead of creating a likely inferior sequel.

Keep it alive you absolute legend... I have become so accustomed to your voice talking about one of my most beloved stories in gaming that i instantly get fuzzy and warm and just slip into that world the moment i hear it. DA might be over from a studio perspective, but it will never go away as long as we keep it in our heath and as long as there are people like you keeping the flame lit.

Caiiitttiiiiieeee!!! This video was sooooo worth the wait! So many details I hadn’t considered, and I love the way you analyzed the relationship between Solas and Mythal. You’ve always had a very unique and nuanced view on the characters and the lore of Dragon Age that I’ve appreciated so much throughout the years. This video is no exception! That ending! Lining up “He is dressed for comfort. For home.” with the perfect cadence of the Lost Elf Theme in the background. *chef’s kiss* Absolute perfection (and warms my Solavellan heart). 😌❤ Super looking forward to more videos regarding new Veilguard lore! 👀✨

Yes, ma'am, flex that Masters!! It's so nice to have a fellow Solas-enjoyer (and kisser-puncher-lover-hater) do some nuanced analysis of him after what we've seen in this game. I've missed your theory videos and can't wait to see your analyses! Seeing your Lavellan in VG gave me a huge hit of nostalgia. It brought back memories of you streaming your canon DAI run! Your Rook is so pretty. I can't wait to see more of her and hear your experience with the Emmrich romance 👀 Regarding the lay-offs, I was so disappointed and upset when they announced it. But to echo the sentiments of fellow fans: it truly belongs to us now. Dragon Age never would've been what is it with out the fans, especially ones like you ❤

Love how good BioWare Dev Writers scripted this story arch over two games. Flemeth/Mythal wanted vengeance on those who killed Mythal. What I find surprising is the Mythal in the crossroads was willing to let go.

In light of the recent Bioware news, and national news, I’ve been so incredibly sad. DA is my favorite thing in fantasy - ever. To think it may have come to its end is crazy - in nearly 20yrs there are no DA games in the works. 😢 This video has come out at just the right time, listening to you talk about one of my favorites things in such depth and love - is a soothing balm. Thank you. ❤

It seems that Thedas could have used Socrates early on, "The unexamined life isn't worth living". It simply appears the characters simply reacted to others without any self-reflection about what they wanted, about who they really were.

So now that I have finished the video and everything...thoughts. The one line that was going through my head was the whole thing about Morrigan's 'leave it to the old wolf to get himself caught in his own trap.' And leave it to him to invent a prison with an easy to solve solution as some sort of morality test...just for him to not be able do it on his own. I buy that part of the theory because it really does fit in with everything and helps tie everything together. Also got me thinking about my own Rook and his relationship to Solas to. If I ever do replay him there was a lot in here to keep in mind as I help forge his own regrets.

Dragon Age has been my absolute favorite thing and obsession for damn near a decade. It got me through ending an abusive engagement, losing my home, and a whole lot of other really hard stuff. In July, my estranged mother passed in a terrible accident after a decade of not seeing her and almost a year of not speaking. Veilguard was not a perfect game at all, and honestly we deserved better. But the focus on learning how to live with and accept regret has helped me start healing, and I will forever be grateful for it.

its was very nice to see a totally different side of you Caitie. I always thought it a sad thing when Ghilan'nain dies, now Elgar'nan it's truly the last of its kind, they're like a dying species. Perhaps im easily amazed but i feel a certain respect and awe for the Evanuris, they're beings so complex and powerful. But I think Solas sees it differently, they're like him, they're his kind, the closest thing he has to siblings or equals, he must've had some respect for them in the past and knows their many gifts, to him killing them when they can be redeem would be a tremendous lost for the world. In so many ways Solas clings and tries to bring back the time of Elvhenan. I don't really have the words to talk about all that's happened, but I wanted to say thank you for all your work Caitie. And also to whoever is reading please go and support the devs.

Your point about how there are a thousand different theories and therapies is an interesting one in this context, because it is precisely WHY it can take people going through several therapists to find one who works for them. When I was struggling, I went through four that were not particularly helpful before the fifth finally gave me what I needed. So in that sense it kind of follows that Varric, the Inquisitor, and Felassan would all have earnestly tried to help Solas and failed. They fundamentally misunderstood what he needed and were stubbornly sticking to their own methods even when those methods were demonstrably not helping. (Trust, one of my unsuccessful therapy attempts lasted AN ENTIRE YEAR of bashing my face against the same thing at their insistence that I just wasn't trying hard enough.)

What is kinda weird is that in the bad ending Solas has his own dagger. You’re telling me he can’t use it just because of the regrets?? Eh, I don’t know. I think if he fully embraced his pride, he could get out of that prison no problem. His pride wouldn’t let him be bogged down by his regret. He wouldn’t have to die to tear it down since Ghil and Elgar didn’t have to die to tear it down. The veil needs the batteries, the batteries don’t need the veil. I never understood why there needed to be a switch in the first place with the regret prison. And this is one of the problems I have with the writing. With some stuff, they overexplain, and with other stuff they explain nothing.

I sincerely appreciate these theories on the regret prison. I was frustrated throughout the game with not being able to wrestle with any regrets with Rook for what was happening. Caitie, this was so insightful, well edited and compellingly beautiful. For all the issues I may have with Veilguard, I am so grateful it gave Solas (and me after ten years) closure and a possible ending for him to find peace. First and foremost. Back then, about 8ish years ago. I played Dragon age Inquisition for the first time. I became obsessed with the dynamic between an elf Inquisitor and Solas's relationship. And when i thought there wasn't going to be another dragon age game, I wrote a book. Becuase it ate at me not having closure! >:( It was about My Inquisitor, and what happened during the Inquisition, and what happened after. When Veil Guard came out, and EA released their old storyboards like 'Joplin.' It was scary on the similarities between them was. How ever now, i have to rewrite it with, Veil Guard 'canon' lore. (So, to get to my point. You're amazing. Everything i have studied in the past about Solas, and the Dragon age world, you were spot on. I am so grateful to the stars, that i randomly clicked on your video, because I'm actively trying to learn more about the new stuff. To me, it's heartening to know someone's out there with the same brilliant mind, that thinks like i do about this game lols. Keep up the good work Madam, and I'll keep listening and learning.)🥰

(Edit: maybe this isn't the right place to write this, but, eh, it's already written 🙃) I enjoyed Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Yes the gameplay was different from all the previous Dragon Age games but I personally don't have any real problems with that. Yes I'm sad and disappointed we didn't get to import the World State, but I can also understand why they chose not to do it. This was the fourth game in a heavily story driven RPG series, and there would have been so many possibilites to consider, map out and make branching story lines that would have been mentioned, or might have even affect the main and/or side stories in small or big ways. I liked the characters, I felt that they were different from each other and that I could understand why they were they way they were and I enjoyed interacting with them. And I really like how the lore evolved, I especially liked what we learned of the Blight and the Evanuris. I found they're respective origins to be interesting and I didn't feel like any major changes to preexisting lore happened, we just, learned more about what actually happened in the past. And I found the fact that the Blights that have almost crippled or destroyed the world on multiple occassion is essentially just a drop in the bucket of what exist behind the Veil to be a downright terrifying, and interesting, thing to ponder. And the ending got me very curious about both the past and the future of Thedas. So I will say it again, "I enjoyed Dragon Age: The Veilguard". I know some (a lot people from what I've been hearing) didn't like it for a variaty of reasons, but I did and I do not regret buying it or playing it 🙂

Given you last message it feels like Veilguard is going to be the last Dragon Age game ... and it makes me so sad to see the backlash, the review bombing and EA reaction to the whole situation X) why did it had to end like this ? The game was so good with really good themes and story arcs, a great first arc and damn excellent third arc ... and a really good ending to the Evanuris/Blight story ... and you are still there doing pretty good theory/analysis videos on the game with deep thinking and arguments. I will do my best to support the dev team even though I don't know them that much on their other works X) (dont hesitate to tell me if there is some interesting stuffs I missed from any of the staff member). Finally its really sad to see how the gaming community in general has evolved over time because of the social medias ... It feels like every game release end up with a backlash to some extent ... same goes to the next Assassins Creed for exemple X)

Something touched on that I love is the idea that Solas and Mythal had an abusive relationship. It's something to consider. While we don't know the power dynamics at work, I feel there's something intrinsically wrong. We don't see why Solas goes along. We don't see his motivation for agreeing, except Mythal. They seem to shift from a status of equality Mythal holding more power in the relationship. Again, it could be that Solas held equal/more weight in other arenas. But, I suspect Solas gets used, his wisdom turned to Pride (demon) so that Mythal can remain a spirit.

The presence of your content kept me from ever falling completely into doomerism waiting for this game, and I finally got it as a Christmas gift. I'm so happy this is your first video to drop after I've finished Veilguard. Knowing the whole "Regret" thing going in just isn't the same as actually playing it. There was a definite feeling of catharsis and validation for me, given the things that have happened to me in my life and the things I myself have done. It didn't magically fix anything, but it was truly nice to have my favorite fiction though on this stuff at a time in my life where I'm only a year into therapy and all the unpacking and relearning and reflection and pain and regret that come with it. Everyone felt so real, from Rook to the companions, to the various antagonists. I've never felt so sickened and angry at a rage-bait hate campaign as I have after finishing this game.

some may say that they have seen me spend most of the past few weeks refreshing my yt home page on the off-chance that this video would suddenly appear... to which i'd say, they'd be absolutely correct

Too bad its all over now. But I do think this is a real ending to the series, I would hate to see it dragged on like a beatin corpse of a horse.

Great video, full of interesting theses and you explained everything perfectly. Imo however Solas couldn't escape the Regret prison for the fake truth as the game says, I simply believe that he couldn't escape because he wasn't able to realise that all the choices he made were wrong and he did make mistakes and took bad decisions.

what's the name of the track that's playing between 52:15 and 53:20

So, it's not on the official soundtrack, so it doesn't have a name. I literally just turned off all the sound but the music on the romanced redeem ending and used that.
